Funny, I took it as exactly the opposite.

Remember the episode of Rod Serling's Night Gallery where Michael Constantine took his 10-year-old nephew to the TV station to show off the kid's ability to predict future events?  And how the kid became a national -- even worldwide -- phenomenon?  And then one day, the kid predicted that the next morning, everyone would wake up to find the entire world transformed for the better, with no more war or disease or famine?  And how, when his uncle and the TV producer asked how he could predict all that, the kid said he'd just read in his astronomy book about supernovas, and how that was really what was about to happen to the Sun in a few hours, and how he thought it was better that people spent their last few hours of existence full of hope rather than fear?

That's what Monty is doing.

There was another painter, an older dude of Germanic extraction who used to love painting clouds and trees by stabbing at the canvas with his brush.  Anybody remember him?  He used to say "Fire in dere, fire in dere" as he painted the trees.  He was even cooler, imho, but no 'fro.

There was another painter, an older dude of Germanic extraction who used to love painting clouds and trees by stabbing at the canvas with his brush.  Anybody remember him?  He used to say "Fire in dere, fire in dere" as he painted the trees.  He was even cooler, imho, but no 'fro.

Remember him, but not his name. His tree technique was to go "splut! splut! splut!" on the canvas with a great big brush to make a pine tree.

David Suchet played a cop in A Perfect Murder. I know this because I just saw it a few days ago on AMC. He has a few scenes with Gwyneth Paltrow.

The movie loses a lot, in my opinion, when it doesn't have Suchet's character gouge out Paltrow's eyes with a dull knife.

Do I hear my childhood calling?  With the exception of Cadfael.  We also watched Fawlty Towers, Are You Being Served?, Keeping Up Appearances, and Monty Python.

David Suchet was also in Harry and the Hendersons.  He's a great actor... but he'll always be Poirot to me.  I liked the adaptation of Poirot also because it kept Hastings and Miss Lemon as regular characters along with Japp.  Something Dame Christie dropped because it was too close to Holmes.  Sad, because Hastings was probably one of the greatest sidekicks in mysteries.  I do like that she gave her characters real lives and let them age.

The new Miss Marples kind of suck because they've let the liberal crap creep in (I like to compare the onscreen adaptations to the books).  The older, chubbier Miss Marple adaptation was a lot better and stuck to the plots better.

For those of you who have been making Japanese references yes the two young girls in the background painting  are from a popular Japanese Anime sereis called Ichigo Mashimaro or in English (Strawberry Marshmallow).

The two girls pictured are Mui on the left and Chika on the right. There are three other characters in the show Nobue, Matsuri, and Ana.

It is a fairly straight forward girl show. Nobue is a college student who lives at home and watches her younger sister Chika. The other three girls are friends of Chika's. They of course cause problems for Nobue, plenty of sight gags and slap stick comedy between all the girls. However there is a undertone of Nobue's sexual fetishes that the younger girls pickup on and sometime tease Nobue about.

Did I mention that Nobue drinks alot?

199 This post was so awesome I think I love Monty. In a gay way. He needs a bit of titanium white, to accentuate his prose.

200 My theory is that William Alexander and Bob Ross inspired all those people who painted the "starving artist" pictures - the ones they sold at random hotel ballrooms a couple of times a year. You don't see those any more... bad economic times?

206 84: There's a mystery behind how he fell even further down the memory hole than The Frugal Gourmet and The Furniture Guys.

It probably had something to do with the Frugal Gourmet taking samples from the kiddie pool.  Don't tell me that you never got that molester vibe from him.  Not that I know if he was ever convicted.  (So make that allegedly taking samples from the kiddie pool.)

When my daughter was about 2-3 yrs old, we would watch him on TV every weekday before picking up her older sibiling form school.  This was my nap time, his voice would put me to sleep & she was memorized by him.

Now she is an artist, wonder if there is some type of conection.... but she does paint people too.

I think I need a nap.

210 Wasn't the REAL Bob Ross once a Marine Drill Sgt or such?

(Seriously).

Supposedly the reason why he was so soft spoken was that he spent so many years screaming at people that he swore never to do so again.
