They've moved onto a list of mundane bills that they are simply postponing final action on. It's just time filler at this point.
Sounds like big trouble for the deal.
Update: House leader says it's just "a bump" but that at the moment, they have no idea what they are going to do about it. Yeah, they've got some real issues here.
One of the big sticking points is Democrats in the House really want to up the Death Tax but the Senate GOP has made it clear this is a take it or leave offer. Basically, it's the House Democrats (and some Republicans) against the 81 members of the Senate who voted for the deal in a game of chicken.
UPDATE 2: Gabe sends along links to NRO's Daniel Foster who thinks Nancy may have boxed herself in with the procedure she used to bring the bill to the floor. Basically it would mean Democrats could vote for a hike in the Death Tax but even if that failed (which it would), they'd be passing the underlying tax deal. Seems liberals want to vote on them separately but can't under the proposed rule.
Somewhat related: Mitch McConnell says no to porked up Omnibus spending bill.
"Today IÂ’m introducing this: a clean, one-page continuing resolution that keeps government funded through February 18th at current spending levels. Once the new Congress is sworn in, weÂ’ll have a chance to pass a less expensive bill free of wasteful spending."
Why Republicans would agree to anything else is beyond me. Their position will be so much stronger in a few weeks, it's idiotic to consider anything else. Of course the real issue is it might be tougher for some pork addicted Senators to get what they want in a few weeks, so they might sell everyone else out for their own "goodies" (Princes Lisa comes to mind).
So far the only Republican yes vote is Robert Bennett (Appropriator, UT), who was denied renomination over his appetite for pork. A spender to the end.
Meanwhile, Jim DeMint is sticking to his threat to make the clerks read all 1,924 pages of the bill. It took 2 days to print the damn thing, so it will likely take at least that long to read it.

As I understand it the House sets rules for a debate before the debate occurs. These limit the number of amendments, limit time, etc. This is often used by the majority to limit the ability of the minority to offer amendments and influence the proceedings. (Dems used to tell Republicans that they should just stay home for all the influence they would be allowed to have.)
Passing the rule is usually pretty pro forma, what ever the leaders propose is voted for. Sounds like there is revolting going on in the majority ranks. (And they are pretty revolting.)

Remember, the House took the bloodbath this time around, and the dems are pissed about it. "We're just figuring out a way to get a rule on the floor that will pass and I'm confident we will," Rep. Rob Andrews (D-N.J.) said.
Andrews and Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass) also predicted the bill would pass later Thursday without changes.
Republicans are planning to vote against the rule, forcing Democrats to carry it alone.

Remember that the "deal" wasn't legislation at all. When the deal was announced, I supported it (I still do in its original form). I still don't think that it should pass via unconstitutional means.
Those are two different subjects.
I imagine the "thinking" went something like this: Until Jan 6, House Republicans are virtually non-existent. They can yell and scream, but it won't make any difference if the Democrats are on board. So the Republicans who the Dems needed to get on board were the Senate Republicans who (because no budget had been passed) could filibuster the deal and not have to worry about it passing through reconciliation.
So President BOHICA negotiates with Senate Republicans to get the "framework" for the deal. No legislation comes out of that, but an idea of what will be in the bill.
Now, the Senate Republicans were dumb for thinking that President BOHICA actually had the backing of his own caucus, and we (that is, the people who support the deal) were probably dumb for thinking they would have thought of that. But they apparently assumed that he had most of his caucus behind him and that some minor negotiation was all that was left to get this through both the House and the Senate.
Had that been correct, the House would have taken it up virtually immediately and passed it- all passing constitutional muster.
It wasn't- Senate Republicans got bamboozled, and are so used to the "Constitution, what Constitution?" status quo, that they didn't even stop to think when the Senate took up the legislation without it having been passed to them from the House.
Which does not excuse the extra-constitutionality of the process and, therefore, the bill, but may help explain it.
I sincerely hope that the Republican Senators did not set out to write a blatantly unconstitutional bill.

UPDATE II: The House Rules Committee is meeting to construct a new rule that will allow liberals to offer more amendments to register their displeasure. But the actual passage of such amendments, as opposed to their symbolic consideration, would be a huge problem, as the Senate would almost certainly reject any changes.

There were a lot of Julie Andrews movies that I just loved like Sound Of Music, but when the musical genre died out it seemed she lost out.
Her later movies sucked. Although I liked both her and James Garner I thought Victor/Victoria sucked.
So perhaps it wasn't her that soured on Julie, it was the industry that quit making movies that she was best at.

I was a hardcore red neck in 1969 but thought all the motorcycle shit was cool. When they showed the rednecks in LA shooting them I was so used to seeing that kind of shit about the "evil South" it didn't phase me. Oh, and the nudity to an 18 y.o. teenager wasn't bad either, especially when nudity in movies was rare.
Now the content of the movie is just crap to me. Even the young Nicholson doesn't help it. When I play the movie now I find myself just skipping through the movie just to hear the tunes with a video backdrop.
