— Ace Charles Krauthammer noted this yesterday. This is the first time anyone in the press has challenged Obama on his dishonest claim that the cuts to Medicare can simultaneously be used to "strengthen" Medicare and also expand coverage to 30 million new people.
Paul Ryan mentioned this during the summit, but Obama ignored the question.
Here's Obama's answer, for the first time. The exchange begins around 2:14 and ends at 5:15.
Obama claims a couple of things here. First, he claims that "nobody's claiming" that this fixes the 38 trillion unfunded liability gap. But that's not true at all -- he's claiming that, for one. He continuously says that Medicare is going bankrupt without his supposed reform, but with his reform, it apparently won't.
Under pointed questioning, he walks his grand claims back to the is that his reform "doesn't weaken Medicare." Well! That's a lot different than claims the reform "strengthens the finances of Medicare," isn't it?
He also changes the terms of argument by stating that some of his "Medicare savings" will be used to pay off current seniors by closing the donut hole in drug coverage. But that deliberately misses the point, as that too constitutes new spending, and if we're plowing these alleged savings into new spending and new entitlements, it also can't be used to firm up future finances of current obligations. He is claiming that if he spends some of his "savings" on current seniors -- but new spending for current seniors -- this somehow "counts" as fixing Medicare long-term.
Of course it doesn't. Of course it doesn't. But he continues lying about this, claiming his that his "reform" addresses the long-term problem. It doesn't. It takes a big chunk of money and reassigns it to other spending -- most of it is taken from seniors to be spent on other groups -- and spends not a dollar to actually fix the financing for Medicare.
And little wonder is spin is so transparently dishonest: This is the first time he's ever been asked about it in an interview. His buddies in Big Media haven't given him any practice at answering the question because they've been too busy repeating his lies.

Baier pointed out that Obama couldn't even tell him which giveaways (bribes) were in and which weren't.
Then Obama asserted that we'll all get to see what's in the bill before the vote, implicitly admitting that we DON'T know what's in it.
I wish Baier had followed up with, if we have to wait until just before the vote to see what's in it, then how can this country have an honest debate about whether it's a good bill or not? By the time we are able to read it, Congress will have already voted, right?

you'll notice that we haven't heard alot of "he disrespected the President" spin coming out of the White House.
The simple fact is most Americans now think the President fudges or outright lies much of the time. That is an anchor he will never lose.
Actually many voters in 2008 knew he was lying in one way or another. The conservative McCain voters knew he was lying about being a moderate and so did the liberal voters. Many independent voters on the other hand bought into the "moderate" spin. They have now seen Obama in action for over a year and they are becoming convinced they were conned in 2008. Since they don't have a political flag to defend they can easily admit they were duped and shift gears.
Most people can forgive someone promising them something but being unable to follow thru on the promise because the circumstances have changed. What people won't do is forgive you for is saying one thing and continuing to do the opposite. Also when you campaign on being the smartest candidate with the best solutions and then when forced to actually do something, claiming that it turns out to be "really hard" when nothing has really changed makes you sound like a big talker with no skills.
People used to call Reagan the "teflon President" referring to his ability to get into politically 'dirty' areas but emerge with his reputation and popularity unscathed and with no 'mud' sticking. (* from the Phrase Finder)
Obama may aptly be called the velcro President because it appears as if every dirty trick Democrats do in Congress seems to stick to him. Add to that every one one of his failed campaign promises is correctly being laid at his feet and you end up with a President who went from a 70-10 favorable-unfavorable spit to a 46-47 spit in a little over one year.

It takes a big chunk of money and reassigns it to other spending -- most of it is taken from seniors to be spent on other groups -- and spends not a dollar to actually fix the financing for Medicare.
In all honesty, I am not convinced that Obama's IQ is high enough for him to realize that he's lying. [In fact, his IQ may be so low that he is not even aware that he is in over his head as President.]
He has consistently demonstrated that he doesn't know the difference between million, billion, and trillion.
And his remarks about Louisiana & the earthquake give some pretty strong indication that he believes Haiti is the 57th state.
All of you SWPL RINOs would do well to consider the possibility that his "lying" could well be nothing more than cluelessness, and his calm, cool demeanor could be nothing more than a Chauncey-Gardiner-esque near-catatonic stupidity.

When my daughter was 5 she stole a necklace out of Target. While I was unloading stuff into the trunk, she pulled the necklace out of her underwear where she had hid it. When I confronted her on her theft, she defiantly maintained that she had "bought it" and that she had money that I didn't know about. When I asked her to show me proof that she had bought it she said that the Target girl didn't give her any proof - when I asked her where she gets her money - she said it just appears in her room, etc. etc.
This incident reminds me of President Toonces (& fellow travellers) who look defiantly at the rest of us and tell these blatant lies and continue to just make shit up. It would be funny if it wasn't so serious.
P.S. I marched my little criminal back into target and made her turn the necklace back in to the store manager. Of course I didn't have the heart to tell him where my daughter had stashed it!

You guys are all missing the point here...Obama is correct, he will be "strengthening Medicare" in that the Medicare "Trust Fund" will be strengthened. The Medicare tax dollars will come in, fewer Medicare dollars will be spent...this is the "savings" that will be going to the Trust Fund.
Unfortunately, the Medicare Trust Fund will not hold actual dollars, but rather will hold "US Treasury Bonds" just like the Social Security Trust Fund. Obama and our Congress will "borrow" every dollar not spent and will spend it somewhere else.
Fact of the matter is that none of this is sustainable. It will all come down with the retirement of the boomers.

Let me get this straightÂ…Â…weÂ’re trying to pass a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesnÂ’t understand it, passed by a Congress that hasnÂ’t read it but exempts themselves from it, to be signed by a president that also hasnÂ’t read it and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didnÂ’t pay his taxes, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country thatÂ’s broke.

If you'd shut your lefty mouth long enough (make sure you pull Karl Marx's nutsack out of it, first) to think about it, WTF difference does "prediction" make in this discussion?
I'm sure that you can quote Herrnstein and Murray all day long, but there is no path that can get you from their work to "predicting" how smart or how dumb a particular individual will be.
In fact, flogging your "predictors" when there is ample evidence of Retarded Barry's stupidity in the public record in the form of his words and his deeds is pretty retarded in itself.
Do some genealogy research on yourself and see if your master race theories would have predicted your obvious cognitive disabilities.

You RINO SWPL fools are wasting all of this energy arguing over the esoterica of nonsense like the Slaughter rule when our real problem is that about half of the people in this country bear no resemblance [no pun intended] to us whatsoever.
They are stupider than us, they are lazier than us, they are more immoral than us, they have no allegiance to the principles which went into the founding of this nation [in fact, to the extent that they enjoy any intellectual life whatsoever, they actively seek to undermine the principles which founded this nation], they have no respect [much less any sense of fealty] to concepts like the rule of law, etc etc etc.
All of which appears to be combined with a very powerful, deep-seated, visceral desire to annihilate us.
"Democracy", or demos kratia [= Greek for "rule of the mob"], is determined by the nature of the demos - in the long run, under a democracy, the demos always gets exactly what the demos wants.
And while you SWPL fools are wasting untold energy on your obsession with parliamentarian tactics, your utterly amoral opposition is in the process of wiping you right out of the history books.

You are as dumb as that Obama guy you love so much.
This is not a democracy. It's a Constitutional Republic. Your so-called "esoterica" is the rule of law that makes the difference.
Learn something before you say anything. Or, be more like your brother and buy a teleprompter.

half of the people in this country bear no resemblance [no pun intended] to us whatsoever.
Even the grossest exaggerations put it at 25%, assuming "resemblance" means "looks like you". You are trolling, get lost.
fools are wasting untold energy on your obsession with parliamentarian tactics, your utterly amoral opposition is in the process of wiping you right out of the history books.
And we are supposed to do what? Truck-bomb the Congress?

He's a typical leftist false-flagger.
He trawling for a racist rise out of somebody so that he can do a diary and link here from DU.
It's a win for him whether it works or not because his "false flagging" is a rare opportunity for him to bare his typically racist, leftist soul whatever the hell it is that they have in place of a soul.
Posted by: MikeO at March 18, 2010 11:54 AM (lBmZl)
He's trawling for a racist rise out of somebody so that he can do a diary and link here from DU.
But then the leftists could just as easily take his quotes verbatim and claim he's an actual AOSHQ regular. I grant you he's a troll all right, but the hypothesis that he is a Stormfront denizen makes more sense.
Sadly, Herrnstein and Murray's rather seminal works have been badly taken out of context and smeared. Both "Losing Ground" and "The Bell Curve" were scathing indictments of the welfare state, and this is why the Left had to distort them.
Posted by: Curmudgeon at March 18, 2010 12:03 PM (ujg0T)
Heh. Stormfront vs. DU is like CranApple vs. CranGrape. I'm a little colorblind in that region.
As for the rest of it, I was gauging more than anything else. My point still stands that you cannot get from aggregate to individual. The attempt to do so goes from futile to idiotic when the individual in question provides a record by which his intelligence can be judged.
The troll probably hasn't the intelligence to know how stupid he is. That's too bad because I'd sure like the fucker to remove himself from the game as a defective.

This is not a democracy. It's a Constitutional Republic. Your so-called "esoterica" is the rule of law that makes the difference.
You're sitting here watching these people shred your precious "Constitution" and you want to castigate me for pointing out to you that we now live in a DEMOCRACY, not a REPUBLIC?!?
You know, like the initials after their names: DEM -vs- GOP?
And we are supposed to do what? Truck-bomb the Congress?
That is the kind of thing [within a very broad classification of things] that we have to be preparing for now.
If we want to continue living in freedom [and given the cowardice of the typical SWPL coward who hangs out at a RINO board like AoSHQ, I don't know the extent to which I ought to be using a pronoun like "we"], then we are going to have to be prepared to fight for it.
And by "fight", I'm not talking about this silly SWPL-RINO obsession with parliamentarian nonsense which is consuming AoSHQ right now - when I say "fight", I'm talking about why half of the stripes on our flag are red.
Posted by: Lt. Quarles Harris Jr. at March 18, 2010 01:16 PM (kyg+f)
You're right. You shouldn't use the word, "we."
So, how do I get you and the rest of the federal agents in your task force to stomping your jackboots on my doorstep most quickly? Will it be by getting on board with your plans for violent overthrow, or will it be by endorsing your Mein Kampf outlook on race?
Posted by: MikeO at March 18, 2010 01:26 PM (lBmZl)
Just in case it isn't abundantly clear to you, I am the ANTI-racist and ANTI-fascist in this conversation.
THIS IS THE FACE OF DAS FOLK - I am merely the lone voice here at RINO-SWPL headquarters who is warning you that Das Folk are coming, and that they intend to eat you for dinner.
Obamacare is just the first in a long series of [ANTI-constitutional] steps which will plunge this nation into full-blown Mugabe-ism.
Posted by: Lt. Quarles Harris Jr. at March 18, 2010 01:35 PM (kyg+f)
No. You are the racist. You are the one who keeps trying to inject race into the discussion.
Is your mother proud that you are Obama's catamite?
Posted by: MikeO at March 18, 2010 01:40 PM (lBmZl)
No, I am the anti-racist who is trying to warn a bunch of SWPL-RINO fools that race is about to consume them.
And race is going to consume you - that much I can guarantee.

Racism has already consumed you.
I hate people for what they do. I hate people for what they say. I hate people for the unconstitutional policies they vote to enact in their efforts to rob me of the fruits of my labor.
I can do this all day, every day for the rest of my natural life, and I will not make a dent in the number of people whom I need to address with my blinding hatred.
Why in the hell should I waste even the tiniest jot of that hatred on something so off-topic as skin color?

I am grinning with delight. I also hope the demoncrat voters realize what the CBO's analysis of the Health Care Bill means to them. I hope they all lose their savings to ObamaCare. Wait, wait, where are the unemployed and minimum wage earners going to get the thousands of dollars per year premium? Do they start saving now?
And these monkey bloggers are having a field day spilling their hatred to Israel and not a mention of Biden's gaffe.

From the Social Security Trustee's Report.
As a result, while MedicareÂ’s annual costs were 3.2 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2008, or about three quarters of Social SecurityÂ’s, they are projected to surpass Social Security expenditures in 2028 and reach 11.4 percent of GDP in 2083.
The projected 75-year actuarial deficit in the Hospital Insurance (HI) Trust Fund is now 3.88 percent of taxable payroll, up from 3.54 percent projected in last year’s report. The fund again fails our test of short-range financial adequacy, as projected annual assets drop below projected annual expenditures within 10 years—by 2012. The fund also continues to fail our long range test of close actuarial balance by a wide margin. The projected date of HI Trust Fund exhaustion is 2017, two years earlier than in last year’s report, when dedicated revenues would be sufficient to pay 81 percent of HI costs. Projected HI dedicated revenues fall short of outlays by rapidly increasing margins in all future years. The Medicare Report shows that the HI Trust Fund could be brought into actuarial balance over the next 75 years by changes equivalent to an immediate 134 percent increase in the payroll tax (from a rate of 2.9 percent to 6.78 percent), or an immediate 53 percent reduction in program outlays, or some combination of the two. Larger changes would be required to make the program solvent beyond the 75-year horizon.
tick, tick, tickÂ…
http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/TRSUM/index.html
Hence now we know why Obama wants to cut $400 billion from Medicare under the ruse of insuring the “uninsured”, someone has to either tell all the wage earners that their Medicare tax (1.45% FICA) is going up from 2.9 to 6.78% (combined Medicare employer and employee portions) OR reduce Medicare benefits by 53% OR do a combination. It is patently illegal to apply Medicare Funds to any other purpose than Medicare recipients as this money is from a dedicated tax. However, they can borrow it like they do now if the surplus funds aren't being used. The Democrats problem is there are no funds to borrow, hence they have to FIX that situation. ObamaCare to put it simply is the Medicare combo. The second PONZI scheme is already unraveling, albeit very slowly then as momentum gains speed, the underfunded expenses of Medicare will skyrocket to $38 trillion but thats another fool's problem.

Kobe Bryant, American professional basketball player, since 1996, played for the Los Angeles Lakers NBA team, the Division level shooting guard. Kobe Bryant is a former NBA basketball player Joe.BryantÂ’s son. Bryant is the NBA one of the best scorers, break, shooting, free throws, three balls he ease, almost no offensive blind, single-game record 81 points on a strong personal proof of this. In addition to crazy scores, the BryantÂ’s organizational capacity is also outstanding, often as the first offensive team sponsor. Bryant, the league also is one of the best defense, personal defense very oppressive.

The Florida Newspaper reports that RB Maurice Jones-Drew wears Jacksonville Jaguars New Nike Jerseys and says that the Jaguars are anxious to see his knee hold up. He thinks the team is ready to give more carries to Rashard Jennings. Maurice Jones-Drew is keenly aware of speculation and doubt about how his surgically repaired knee will function during the 2011 season, whenever it begins. That is part of what has driving him this summer ¡ª he does not want any questions to linger in his coaches¡¯ minds about his health. ¡°I can still carry the load regardless of what surgery I had or whatnot,¡± Jones-Drew wore Maurice Jones-Drew New Nike Jerseys and said. ¡°They are going to be kind of anxious to throw Rashad Jennings in, and they are already kind of scared of my knee. ¡ I want to be able to be out the gates playing because it is a production-based business. They are already skeptical maybe it is his knee, maybe we are working him too hard, we should give him a break.¡± Jones-Drew tore his meniscus before the 2010 season and played the season¡¯s first 14 games with the injury, carrying the ball 299 times and rushing for 1,324 yards. Noted orthopedist James Andrews repaired the knee through an arthroscopic procedure in January, the week after the season ended. Jones-Drew wore Maurice Jones-Drew New Nike Jerseys and began running lightly in April and last month was able to cut and make football moves. Jaguars offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter has said repeatedly he has complete confidence in Jennings, Jones-Drew¡¯s backup, but Koetter¡¯s problem with giving Jennings more carries is he does not like taking them away from Jones-Drew.
