Brown Campaign Has Brought In a Million Dollars Each Day This Week
— Ace

Most of it online, by the way.

"We'll be able to pay our bills," I saw a campaign worker say dryly earlier, refusing to comment on the exact level of support they were getting, but noting "Money won't be a problem."

Not a problem at all, it seems.

Not sure, but maybe their new need is for bodies, for people to walk precincts and knock on doors and man the phone lines and drive people to the polls.

Nope: Money Still Is Needed; Democratic Groups Outspending Conservative Ones 2-to-1: They're spending their little hearts up out there.

We still need the moneybombs.

You kiddin' me?  I've never been more nervous about this than I am now.  It's terrifying, contemplating the massive Dem machine that's slamming into gear: Brown outspent 2-to-1, TWO Presidents parachuting in to campaign (hey assholes, why don't you and your Special Envoy to Haiti go help the poor Haitians, for god's sake?).  I'm reading navelgazing posts on RCP pondering whether Brown's peaked too soon or not, worrying about turnout in a race everyone knows about now....

....but fuck it.  I think it's still gonna happen.  In part because I think all this extra attention isn't going to drive turnout up nearly as much as people think.  I think a lot of Dems will just feel disgusted and stay home.

Let's lay this one to rest right now.  The RNC and NRSC may well be a bunch of tools, but they're doing EXACTLY what Brown has asked them to, which is stay the hell out of the way.  Money and logisitical support under the table, but keeping as conceivably low a profile as possible.  Big heavy thumbprints labelled "RNC" would have been poison in this race.  I have absolutely no doubt that Brown said, early on, "thanks but your brand isn't exactly popular in this state."

I'm glad the Dems are raising and spending all this money.  I hope it puts a dent in their national coffers.  (Although, unfortunately, I have a feeling that some of that money is tax money via stimulus bucks).  Still, I love that they are having to hustle their butts and spend money in a race that wasn't even supposed to be contested.  Martha was expected to just be crowned at her coronation and walk off without doing anything.  Heh!

Off-topic alert, WND-caution, but you gotta check this out:

Cass Sunstein, Obama's regulatory czar, allegedly wrote a paper in 2008 saying "The theory of global warming is a deliberate fraud," and should be banned.

Banned?

And that government agents should infiltrate American citizenry-groups who may hold these, and other unapproved, ideas.

I'm the first one to admit that there are a lot of kooky conspiracy theories.

But "banning" them? In America?

The land of free speech?

And "banning" opposing views in science?

146 It really is amazing that in November 2008, Obama carried Indiana and North Carolina, and now a Republican may win a special election for Senate in Mass. in January 2010, and to a large measure, it is a referendum on the Obama presidency. All the upper middle class suburban voters who abandoned the Republicans have now come running back. Obama in one year completely reversed a 20-year tread. How the Republicans lost those voters in the first place reflects poorly on the Republican leadership, and the voters themselves.

Rise up citizens of Massachusetts! Democrat, Republican and Independent ... you stand on the shoulders of giants! You led the fight against tyranny and oppression once before. Now is the time to show the nation and the world, once again, that you will not sit idle while the freedoms we cherish so dearly in this great country of ours are summarily and methodically bound in the chains of that age old false promise. Tell all the world that the Unied States will not go silently into that dark night!

Raise the ghosts of your forebearers; patriots who risked all! Rouse your families, friends, neighbors, and strangers on the streets from their slumber! Scott Brown was never so right when he said "It is not Kennedy's seat, it is the peoples seat!" Knock on doors, write the papers, call into the radio, scream it from the street corners and the tops of buildings. Fill your cars ... run, walk, or crawl! Get to the polls if you have to take an ambulance! This is the moment history will judge you by!

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”—Samuel Adams

Here's the text from an email that I received Saturday from the fan club:

In December 2008 when I was at CBS overseeing the color specials transfer, I was told that CBS had the Benny television program masters.  I was breathless!

I got a listing of their holdings, and selected about 25 shows that are currently uncirculated and in the public domain.  I sent the request for us to digitally preserve these shows, at the IJBFC's cost, to Lorra-Lea Bartlett, the Manager of the CBS Contracts Rights and Clearances department.

This was followed by about nine months of waiting for the CBS New York legal department to respond to the request.  On September 7th, I was asked to provide a letter from the Benny Estate requesting that the programs be released, and "that should get this unstuck."  The Estate happily provided the letter to CBS.  I continued to follow up weekly for status.

Today I was informed by Peter Murray, Lorra-Lea's assistant, that she had talked with CBS' Vice President of Business Affairs, and "there are so many issues with those shows, that even if we took the time to figure it out, we still almost certainly wouldn't do the deal."  So that's it.  Access to the Jack Benny television masters is sealed.

In 1964, James Aubrey told Jack Benny that his weekly television series was terminated with the words, "YOU'RE THROUGH, OLD MAN!"  Sadly, 46 years later, CBS has repeated the sentiment by condemning these shows to permanent silence.

A little ways down the hall the dead dude gets to his quarters, and its rather bland and spartan. The angel notices his disappointment and says "is something bothering you?". The man says "well I lived my life in good character, and was always honest, and I see kennedy in this room with a frigging blond and a huge ass keg and you stick me in this spartan cubical.

The angel says "ohhh that. Oh don't worry, we took care of ol' ted just fine. The keg has a hole in it, and the chick don't."

179 I'm conflicted about this whole race. Coakley is definitely a bad choice and will garuntee that the Democrats will destroy our nation. Brown seems to have hit on that he will be the "one" to stop ObamaCare and Crap and Tax. But, didn't we hear from a candidate a year or so ago, promising this and that? Who was that? Obama. A year later, we have voter's remorse. Will we have voter's remorse in the next few months with Brown? Keep in mind, he did vote and support RomneyCare in Mass. The amazing thing is we have what could be considered a Tea Party Canidate in Joe Kennedy (no relation to the sleazebag Kennedy's). With all the hoopla between Brown and Croakly, Kennedy has almost disappeared from public view. Not that I'm suggesting a vast conspiracy between Repubs and Demo's to squash the Tea Party in it's infancy, but effectively that is what is happening. Ok, off my soapbox, feel free to lob tomatoes, potatoes, money, drugs, or whatever at me now.

192 At least #181 has a bit more talent than the usual axelturfers we usually see.  Maybe even a genuine tea party believer.  Doens't matter.  A vote for Kennedy is a vote for Cockswollwer.

193 Troll? If you say so, but I don't believe so. I'm just bringing up a few concerns.

Hey guys!  Let's read between the lines!

(You know, after all these years of being intermittently accused of being a concern troll myself, it's fucking sweet to be able to call out some obvious ones myself.)

In the extremely remote off-chance that you're not a concern troll, let me boil this down for you: IF SCOTT BROWN ONLY PROVIDES US WITH THE 41st NO VOTE ON HEALTHCARE AND THEN PROCEEDS TO VOTE LEFT OF BERNIE SANDERS FOR TWO YEARS IT WILL STILL BE TOTALLY OKAY WITH EVERY PERSON HERE.  EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US.  NOT A SINGLE ONE OF US HERE WOULD TURN DOWN THAT DEAL.

Hence, your "concerns" are meaningless.  Stopping healthcare means defeating the most elemental threat to domestic governance since god-knows-when.  Cap-and-trade?  Feh.  Let Brown vote for that if he thinks it would help him get reelected; there's no way in fucking hell that it will even approach 60 votes as is.  You think Byrd & Rockefeller, or Webb and Warner, or Hagan would vote for something that kneecaps their states and guarantees their defeat?  You should see how Democratic Virginia House delegates in coal-country did during this year's election when cap & trade was an issue. (Hint: popular incumbent D wiped out by 15% margin.)

On  another note, a mill a day, how long we been at this?  4-5 days?  Sounds like some ass kicking is coming down the line.

I love the smell of napalm in the morning!

It's the smell of VICTORY!

195 Remember folks, that Suffolk poll is supposed to be out in a couple hours...let's hope there's some good news.

196 Well said Jeff!

197 Uhm Jeff - I'm not familiar with MA, so where is Suffolk?  Which counties are more Coakley friendly, and which are more Brown friendly?

199 Uhm Jeff - I'm not familiar with MA, so where is Suffolk?  Which counties are more Coakley friendly, and which are more Brown friendly?

It's not a place, it's a university in Boston.  They conduct polls for MA state elections, sort of like how Quinnipiac University (betcha didn't know Quinnipiac was actually a university and not just some independent polling outfit!) does its Quinnipiac poll.  So the "Suffolk poll" is a poll of the race in the entire state.  I honestly can't tell you ANYTHING about their methodology or how respected/accurate they are, just that it's another data point.  But then again that hackish DSCC "internal poll" that was released a week ago showing Coakley up +15 has been treated as a legit data point despite the obvious fact the campaign only would release something making it look good.  So let's just hope for a good number, scope out the crosstabs, and keep fighting.

200 It's also worth noting how different the health care bill is structurally from every single crazy-ass thing on the agenda.

Cap & Tax? Fundamentally repealable. There isn't going to be 100 million people directly relying upon 'promises' inherent in the bill.

Healthcare has the chance - and appears to be fundamentally designed to - atrophy aspects of the private sector, and fundamentally kill others. It's very tough to 'fix' the complete lack of individualized health insurance. This is somewhat like what was initially intended with Fredie and Fanny. Set up by government and gradually pushed out of the nest until the cord could be cut.... Or not. How about we real them back in an reabsorb the complete fiasco. Again.

205 @205 That's just a normal Democrat fundraiser.

206 Straight up, Jeff B.
All these clowns that keep saying there's no chance of Brown winning are doing the same job as these paid eeyores. That's the difference between a whore and a slut, right?

I learned a long time ago that if you put your head down and smash your opponents right in the middle, you might just beat them. If not, they sure don't like winning near as much as they do when you turn your back and give it to them.
