Not necessarily a bad thing. Let the Democrats own the whole swirling vortex of a fiscal black hole known as California.

Defections from Meg Whitman's ranks on the part of women, Latinos and nonpartisan voters have fueled a surge by Jerry Brown in the race for governor, according to a new Los Angeles Times/USC poll...

Seriously, what's the point of winning a skirmish when the battle is lost? CA is boned, seriously boned, default on obligations type boned. They crossed the black hole's event horizon quite a while ago, and I see no Samantha Carter's or Asgard around bearing a miracle solution. CA bought the ticket, now it gets to take the ride. Let the Dems drive this bus off the cliff. They earned the right.

What good does it do to have a Republican governor when she is going to have to contend with a legislature that is always going to be dominated by moonbat leftist Democrats, with a smattering of mainly RINO Republicans.

My main fear is, California is going to be the next thing that's going to be "too big to fail". And that's when we all need to take to the streets.

14 I knew CA was boned when the legislature killed months of hard negotiation that produced a balanced budget last year. They did that with no regard to finances and boldly started calling for issuance of IOUs instead of paying their bills.

They have gerrymandered themselves into permanent office and just do not give a shit what the average tax paying citizen feels.

The tax payers and real companies are leaving the State now at a massive rate. That loss is being overshadowed by the massive influx of illegals who do nothing but add to the burden.

Yes, just like when their stupid policies for their electrical problems occurred, they will go to the feds for a bailout. When their electrical problems occurred thankfully we had a Republican President and he told them the old saying; bed, you made it, you sleep in it.

Look for the request for a bailout BEFORE the end of this year as it will be their last chance. Hopefully the Republicans will be able to block it in the Senate but I wouldn't count on it.

Keep in mind that until the end of this year the Dems still control the House with a huge majority. This is why I say that they will make their move during the lame duck session at the end of this year.

It will pass the House and then it will be up to the RINOs in the Senate whether it will be able to be blocked by the Republicans. That also depends on who wins those "immediate" seating races.

However, with Republicans in control of at least one chamber of Congress, there will probably be stringent conditions attached to the bailout money -- steep reductions in state employee salaries and pensions, major cuts in nonessential services, etc. This is what the CA electorate may not understand. They're right to count on a bailout, but wrong to assume it will come with no strings attached.

Not really. It will screw the people who hold CA bonds. It should screw the unions but if the Detroit debacle is any clue they will screw the bondholders and support the unions.

The correct thing to do is allow them to go bankrupt and renegotiate contracts that are killing them. Largely these golden parachute retirements with some people drawing two or three wages.

In order to correct itself CA needs to do several things, mostly in eliminating pillars of the socialist movement:

1. Eliminate these ruinous union contracts
2. Eliminate the ruinous "green" laws that are driving companies out of CA.
3. Eliminate ruinous welfare benefits, especially to illegals.

Since the Dems will oppose every one of these things tooth and nail they will never happen.

In any event, consider Utah. If you're in computing, we have "Silicon Slopes" which is about to include a big chunk of Adobe as well as Oracle, Twitter, EA and others relocating from CA. There's also going to be a huge NSA (national security admin) data analyst center. I think the latter is particularly keen to hire people with language skills (not hard in Utah because the guys go off on missions which are often overseas so they learn a language).

There's lots of construction going on and public works projects.

Salaries are lower than CA, but cost of living seems to be making up for that. We relocated from Eastern LA county to the Provo/Orem area a couple of months ago.

Whitman losing is not necessarily a 'win'. While we know that this is bad news, many of the dumbasses in California will think Brown is just wonderful for saving their state, and continue to vote the dumbassery that forced the the bailout in the first place.

They'll never make the connection that liberal policies and feeding the public unions led to the situation they are in.

Brown will never reform the state, and they'll be in this situation again, in another 20 years (or sooner, assuming there still is a USA at that point).

Whitman, while going to the Feds for a bailout, might actually make needed changes to fix the problem. Then again, there is nothing I have read of her that actually tells me she is a true fiscal conservative.

OTOH, the rest of the country will be pissed off at having to pay for California's drunken party, so maybe it is a WIN if the Demoncrats own it, except if the Republicans take the house and then grant the bailout, they own it, too.

They don't have to honor the bailout request, but something tells me that they will treat it just like TARP (an emergency!!!), and bailout Cali, ESPECIALLY if Whitman wins.

It seems that Meg instead of being a RINO squish Mitt friend should have embraced her inner mama grizzly instead.

I think Christie hurt Meg when he "defended" her against that heckler. It showed that Meg was weak and needed "protection."

What's the matter with people who can't look at what Blumenthal has been doing there for the last ten or so years - driving out jobs - and say, no we don't want any more of that? 83 The other two pieces of "good news" in this election are that Prop 23 (Suspension of AB32, the global warming initiative) will fail, raising taxes and killing more jobs.... and Prop 25 (changing state budget approval from 2/3 to 50%) will pass.... the Democrats will totally own the states failure as we lay off more teachers, firefighters, police, correctional officers and state workers.... 84 i believe this poll is likely as accurate as the other article that accompanied it on the front page yesterday which was about a study that purportedly showed that California WASN'T anti-business.......

the Times is doing what it always does: lying.since i don't get the paper, i couldn't read it, but the guy at the next table had the paper and i could read the headlines.

HRH and i are both natives, and we're mumbling about leaving, but there's more than a few ties that bind, and some distance on where to go: i say Texas, and she's thinking North Carolina or so.

in the meantime, i plan on making a run to AZ to stock up on ammo. there's a 10% discount just by avoiding the CA sales tax. %-)

89 Its Demographics. The CA Dept. of Education reports that 48% of all K-12 kids are Hispanic (meaning, Mexican).

Mexicans vote Democratic. Always have, always will. Because Democrats offer the anti-Middle Class White guy platform, special goodies to Mexicans, both illegal and legal residents/citizens. Republicans at best can only get a tiny fraction of this demographics.

Meanwhile, ordinary White Middle Class folks had to flee the state as it became filled with really rich people and impoverished Mexicans.

Yes, you will ALL be paying for California's bailout. Think there will be conditions? Puhlease! Republicans will cave as the first accusations of "racism" play out, and the power of California's Congressional and Senate delegations along with Obama rallying Mexican voters.

Here in California, I've seen flier after flier in mailboxes trashing Meg Whitman. They call her a two-faced liar and a threat to Latinos. These fliers are in Spanish and English, and just in the last two weeks, I know one residence that has received 10 such fliers against Meg Whitman and ZERO for Meg Whitman or against Jerry Brown.

These are all scare-tactic propaganda, but it's constant and one-sided, which is to say it's probably working.
