Carly Fiorina: "Racist Tone" Has Developed In GOP Regarding Immigration
— Ace

Usually I'd say Next over this, but it might be a little prudent positioning.

She says this while supporting the Arizona law, so it can be read as a case of understandable positioning, where she supports the substance but makes a (meaningless) appeal for a nicer "tone."

Since she herself is supporting the Arizona law, she's obviously not calling that racist.

California Senate candidate Carly Fiorina voiced support Friday for Arizona’s new immigration law even as she deplored a “racist tone” that’s developed in some corners of her party over the highly charged issue.

The former Hewlett Packard CEO said the lawÂ’s passage stemmed from WashingtonÂ’s failure to address the problem of illegal immigration through stricter border enforcement and a practical temporary worker program.

But when asked in an interview with POLITICO if Republicans needed to make any changes in their approach to the growing Hispanic community, Fiorina replied, "There has been a very unfortunate racist tone that has emerged in a lot of the discussion about immigration and that's inexcusable. We must be a country that welcomes legal immigrants to this country. We must be a country that recognizes that we have industries like agriculture that have depended on temporary migrant labor for generations."

She also went on to rubbish "comprehensive" solutions:

But she also broke with members in both parties who believe a comprehensive immigration package is needed to address the problem.

“So then Barbara Boxer, President Obama, say, 'oh my gosh, we have to have comprehensive immigration reform.' You don’t need comprehensive immigration reform to secure the border. And you don’t need comprehensive immigration reform to have a temporary worker program that works. Those are responsibilities of the federal government that they have today and they are failing at those responsibilities,” she said.

I'm giving her a little break, because it's always helpful for a politician to appear to have a position somewhere in the middle, rather than fully on one side or another. Based on her comments, she does appear to be almost all on one side -- so she's contriving an "extreme" position to the right of hers, one she says has a "racist tone." Thus putting herself in the middle -- she supports this law, sure, and wants to secure the borders first, but that's not the extreme position.

No, the extreme position is way outside of the mainstream, the one with a "racist tone."

I think that's excusable and even a bit clever, but Chuck DeVore isn't having any of that.

Chuck DeVore said, "It looks like Carly Fiorina believes her own fellow Republicans have a 'racist tone' on immigration -- or at least that's what she tells her friends in the D.C. press. I know better.

"Unlike Carly, I know and respect my fellow Republicans.

"Unlike Carly, I've been an active Republican and conservative all my life.

"Unlike Carly, I've lived in southern California for decades.

"Unlike Carly, I've led Hispanic American soldiers -- and been led by them.

"Unlike Carly, I've studied the border problem from the standpoint of a senior California National Guardsman.

"Unlike Carly, I've engaged the illegal-immigration problem as a lawmaker, a father and homeowner in affected communities.

"Most of all unlike Carly, I genuinely respect and understand Californians' concern about this pressing issue. The illegal-immigration problem has everything to do with safe communities, respect for the law, and taxpayer resources -- issues that cut across every divide of race, class, and politics.

"In Carly Fiorina's imagination, Republicans are racists who don't even welcome legal immigrants. That's an outright falsehood. Her interviewers didn't bring up racism -- she did. Her interviewers didn't conflate legal and illegal immigration -- she did. If we ever needed an illustration of just how deeply and reflexively Carly Fiorina has bought in to the left-wing and media narrative, this is it.

"On the one hand, I'm appalled at her slander of hardworking Americans who demand respect for the law. On the other hand, those same Americans will go to the polls on June 8th."

Republican candidates often come to the crossroads of issues.

They have two choices: Stay on the straight road to justice, rules of law, and common sense. Or take the wrong road to political correctness.

Carly Fiorina chose unwisely. But don't blame her; she's only following the other Republicans.

"Positioning" in California MIGHT make sense, if that's what it took to secure the legal hispanic vote.

BUT IT DOESN'T!!

Legal immigrants (as opposed to illegal ALIENS) hate these line-jumping, scofflaw, trash that leech off of social services.  Of the millions that sneak in, there are a majority of hard workers.  Great.  The minority of criminal, grifter delinquents is ot exactly small.

Come out against the illegal aliens in no uncertain terms.  The people (even teh hispanic population of California) will quietly applaud.

71 At the risk of harshing the despair in some quarters, this is at HA.

WASHINGTON – Internal GOP politics are profoundly affecting major policies such as immigration, health care and deficit spending, as elected Republicans shift right to fend off challengers in primary elections.

72 California politically is like Europe, the state is pretty much socialized, the far left own it. Occasionally you get a Republican in there but they are mostly just keeping the seat warm while the DNC gets a breather. Carly will probably make Snowe and Collins look like GOP stalwarts but that just speaks to the nature of politics in a state that has a political center just slightly to the right of Marxism.

74 "...but it might be a little prudent positioning."

Respectfully disagree, Ace. This prudence is the same disingenuous politicking that has so disgusted the pragmatic, commonsense voter. It's this rhetorical gamesmanship that induces mistrust.

She's for the law but throws on some gas to the rhetorical lie fire that racism is occurring or is a significant trait to the anti-illegal immigrant wail. It isn't. Oh, sure, everyone throws in the most extreme caveat that surely some "racist" extremism is happening, but that's a concession that need not be made because there's an extremist loon in every debate. Yet somehow it's this issue that needs the caveat every freakin' time and not every other issue that inflames emotions. It's a cowardly position and gives support to the opposition when the opposition doesn't really have a valid point. The point is a trumped up false charge, so quit giving it fuel.

Fiorina is a good campaigner, I'll concede. In public and in these primaries so far, she comes across well. However, these small concessions in the debate, while getting her votes, reinforces a false story that undermines policy - possibly immediately and assuredly long term - and works against sound, honest policy that truly addresses the problem.

California politically is like Europe, the state is pretty much socialized, the far left own it. Occasionally you get a Republican in there but they are mostly just keeping the seat warm while the DNC gets a breather.

It's more complicated than that. Actually, the leftism is concentrated in population centers that dominate the state and shit all over the rest of it. The real divide in Cali is not North / South (historic rivalry of sports teams and cities), but really Coast / Interior ("Creative" bolshevik buttpirates vs productive producers of real goods and services)

Four small atomic bombs, detonated on San Fransicko, Oakland/Berkeley, South Central LA, and West Hollywood--would make this a "red" state again. I hate that color scheme because it hides the Commiecrat roots of the Demunists, but oh well.

When Cali shifted into the full blown Commiecrat category was the 1990's. Defense and Aerospace industries declined, computer industry shifted from productive hardware to "creative" software, liberals imported an underclass to do their gardening and maidwork and run their chic cafes, and teh ghey's took over Hollywood and the entertainment industry. These trends were going on for decades before that, but it was the end of the Cold War that suddenly thrust them into sharp relief.

And some chicanery to boot.

That said, I wonder if a coherent GOP can exploit rifts in the rainbow coalition of the Left. Such rifts are:

anti-development, anti-agriculture Green vs. pro construction and pro-agriculture Brown.

"fabulous" Pink vs. churchy and anti-gay Black and Brown

Black vs. Brown (unspoken but basically an out and out war in the ghettoes and prisons)

The Demunists here have a lot of infighting, and I often wonder why the Cali GOP can't seem to exploit it.

And even if Carly wins the primary (and she might, as she is better than three time loser and RINO putz Tom Campbell, although I hope for DeVore), I would still support her against that Soviet Slut, Commiecrat Cunt, Bolshevik Bitch Barbara Boxer.

Even a RINO is better than a full blown Demunist.

We don't have a horse in this race. So we couldn't care less who wins.

But it has been our observation that Tom Campbell has always been a damned good Republican, albeit a moderate, which is not to say that he is a RHINO.

However, put yourself in his position, His primary responsibility is to respect and to represent the wishes, I repeat, the wishes, albeit not necessarily the best interests of his constituents, an increasingly disproportionate number of whom are Latinos, which has put him in an awkward position in which, to serve his constituents' wishes, he has had his own principles compromised.

It's a no-brainer: His situation is a microcosm of larger, more critical and similar situations which are developing all over this country. The influx of Latinos is radically changing the demographics in many if not all districts, and, for a variety of reasons, it is becoming a dangerous and destructive trend.

Our fear is that, in their ignorance,  they will inadvertently change the USA into a shithole like the shitholes that they came from. Hopefully, we will be wrong on that particular issue.

Our point here, though, is that your criticisms of Tom Campbell are unfair and unjustified.  He is the most credible candidate in that race.
