— DrewM I'm not going to pretend to be a budget wonk but aside from the fact that the CBO projections are based on the 'facts' provided to them by Democratic leadership, the Director of the CBO says this isn't a real estimate (pdf)
Although CBO completed a preliminary review of legislative language prior to its release, the agency has not thoroughly examined the reconciliation proposal to verify its consistency with the previous draft. This estimate is therefore preliminary, pending a review of the language of the reconciliation proposal, as well as further review and refinement of the budgetary projections.
In other words, they don't really know yet since the bill hasn't been provided in it's final form.
Consider this little factoid from Eric Cantor's office.
Even after Dems cut $500 B in Medicare & raises taxes, their claims of deficit reduction over 10yrs wonÂ’t erase 1 month of 2010 deficit.
So even if there magical assumptions all come true (and they won't), the net reduction in the deficit is essentially zero. We're going to rework the entire health care system and if everything goes right, we won't even eliminate one month of deficits?
And just how gimmicky is this budgeting?
CBO: HC bills would cost $17 billion in first 4 years, $923 billion in remaining 6 years!
Does anyone have any faith in the numbers from the CBO for next year, let alone 5-10 years from now when the costs explode?
This is insanity.
The question is, will enough Democrats who claim to worry about the deficits drink this Kool-Aid and consider this a sufficient fig leaf to go over the cliff with Nancy? I fear the answer is yes.

Yes, yes they will. And they'll lie every inch of the way claiming for fiscally responsible it is too.
Assholes.

What pisses me off about the entire house of cards construct of the CBO is that is was constructed for one purpose - to con the public, and it is used by both sides to do that.
Just like a million other phony and corrupt mechanisms that have been put in place by what have become our leaders instead of our servants, politicians will rail againts them when they work against their interests, but will never do anything to dismantle them because in the end, they work for politicians' interests which are nearly always at odds with the public interests.

My Prediction:
After Reconcilliation Fail, and Deem Fail, Bill signed into law via Executive Order at the Annual Easter Egg Roll.

Is there any record of past CBO estomates on items like this and what the reality turned out to be?
I think it would be real interesting to see how close the CBO estimates have been over the years.

I'm pretty sure there are people who complain about defense, but the Constitution explicitly mentions national defense as a responsibility of the federal government. Not so much paying for his Viagra. Especially not with the unConstitutional purchase mandates and the shitty, dishonest, bad-faith ways Pelosi and Obama are going about getting it enshrined in law over the objection of 2/3 the voting public.
Which made me wonder...if a legitimate amendment process had been started and completed to give the federal government that responsibility--ratified by 3/4 the states, preferably at conventions--would we still be angry?
I think I would be, but I'd probably accept it, since that's the way the system works.

For some reason I can only imagine such a scene as if it were a part of The Wall. Or maybe 1984. But oddly hilarious in atmosphere.

We need to quietly inform these fence sitting Dems that if this thing passes and then fails the Dems will lose power and the American Public will be enraged. The American Public will want heads on sticks and Conservative will be more than happy enough to throw any Dem who votes for this to the wolves.
We need to tell them that they will be hauled in front of Congressional hearings and if there is a Republican sitting in the White House they will be prosecuted for anything we can think of.
Make these guys afraid for their futures and their families futures.
We must also remind them about those rather crazed people who go on shooting rampages when they lose thier jobs. If this thing goes south and peoples family members start to die people are going to blame them not conservatives. How long do you think it will take before some grieving soul decides to take revenge on these guys or their families.
I don't think these guys have really thought about that. For to long they haven't had to suffer for anything that goes wrong. Now they have just painted big bullseyes not only on themselves but their children and anyother relative.

I can't find it at the moment by they were 100billion of so low on the stimulus.
That's one year later and not nearly the convoluted system that is almost impossible to predict.

Well, everybody with half an ounce of brains knows this is a lie, and that this bill is one of the biggest loads of shit to go through the sewer in Washington...however, they seem dead set on passing the damn thing.
Right now I'm getting the same sort of feeling I get from a horse trader who's trying to sell me a real piece of Alpo -- it's just such a good deal, too good; they're selling it too hard. This leaves you with two options: go ahead and take the Alpo just to get the trader off your back, then run it out asap so you don't have to deal with it; or, second option, tell the trader no, and if he keeps it up he'll lose your business for good -- and possibly a lot of other people's business, because word travels fast. How that applies to Congress is anybody's guess, but that's how I feel about it.

#22, the issues of the day will be settled by blood and iron. Otto von Bismarck knew more about governance than the entire Obama Administration.
Unfortunately it will be their iron, our blood. The "racial diversity" reps on the death panels will make sure that white conservatives get a box of band-aids at age 22 to last the rest of their lives if college indoctrination was determined not to have worked.
Liberals and the "ethnically oppressed" will get the next tier of care, Party apparatchiks the top tier.

That's probably not something you want to mention when you call your rep's office.
Well Fluffy I was not saying that you should go up to your rep and say "if my family member dies I'm going to kill you".
What you can say to them and what should be said to them is this: " You do realize that people are going to personally hold you responsible for this if one of their family members dies. Can you imagine what someone who has a family member die for something they know would have been dealt with before will do to you or your family?"
You are not threatening them, you are just pointing out to them that there are going to be real life threats to their lives from the same kind of people who become disgruntled workers who go on shooting rampages. Only now we are going to have these kinds of people directed at Government officals. We also need to remind them that they will most likely be ex-government officals and so will not have access to the major levels of security they have around Washington DC.
