— Purple Avenger Actual ObamaCare™ 10 year cost is well over $2,000,000,000,000 and that's using the insane Alice in Wonderland scoring rules congress compels the CBO to use.
...To see the bill’s true first-decade costs, we need to start the clock when the costs would actually start in any meaningful way: in 2014. The CBO says that Obamacare would cost $2.0 trillion in the bill’s real first decade (from 2014 to 2023) — and much more in the decades to come.Such a deal eh? Never before has "pay more get less" tasted so good! If the Robber Barons of old were alive to see this they'd bow their heads in awe of the shear brazenness and magnitude of this public fleecing and realize they'd operated like amateurs even during their heyday. But $2.0 trillion wouldn’t be the total ten-year costs. Instead, that would merely be the “gross cost of coverage provisions.” Based on earlier incarnations of the proposed overhaul, the total costs would be about a third higher (the exact number can’t be gleaned from the CBO’s analysis, which is only preliminary and is not a full scoring) — making the total price-tag between $2.5 and $3 trillion over the bill’s real first decade.
How would we pay for all of this? According to the CBO, by diverting $1.1 trillion away from already barely-solvent Medicare and spending it on Obamacare, and by increasing taxes on the American people by over $1 trillion....
...And what would we get for all of this? The CBO says that health insurance premiums would rise by 10 to 13 percent in the individual market, in relation to current law. The Medicare Chief Actuary says that the percentage of the gross domestic product spent on health care would also rise in relation to current law, increasing from 17 percent today to 21 percent in 2019. And, as the CBO reports in its latest scoring, as of 2019 there would still be 23 million people in America lacking health insurance...

It's really depressing what is already happening to the medical profession. Many docs are taking early retirement rather than deal with this mess. The medicare cuts they already shoved down our throats are devastating. We are firing staff, reducing services and considering how to cut our liability (ie reduce exposure to medicare patients).
We used to to alot of phone assistance - triage and making suggestions. Now that we have had to cut back on staff time for phone calls, we do a lot more "Just go to the ER," and a lot less returning calls.
Our state passed a mandate making the Doctors financially responsible for providing the interpreters for non-English speaking patients. We lose money on these visits once the patient is in office for more than 20 minutes. If you are sitting in the lobby perusing the antiquated magazines and see non-English speaking patients and their interpreters whisked in ahead of you, it's because of this unfunded mandate.
You, Madame Taxpayer and Mister Veteran, can just wait. The guy who has been here 10 years without bothering to learn English is just so much more important that you are. Don't get us wrong - we're so very happy that you've worked your collective asses off to pay the bill, but the system is going to be driven to treat you more and more poorly in the name of "Fairness."
The unintended consequence of government micromanagement of our profession have been nearly universally destructive. Now we will have a trillion dollars of unintended consequences, micromanagement and unfunded mandates. Whooo-hooo!

Well, that sounds as true as it is irrelevant. It isn't likely to go to the Senate, though some Democrats think it might. Most people believe it will be signed into law as is, and alterations added in subsequent legislation. Sounds like either Conrad is naive or just blowing smoke.

Speaking of recognizing BS: GE ran a full page ad in WSJ yesterday, reminding Americans that Ronald Reagan was on GE TV, and flacked for them for ten years. Huge portrait of The Gipper in his GE director's chair.
Of course, it was Reagan who said "We're all Keynesians now."
Has GE disassociated itself from the Wave of The Future, or are they just getting a lot of calls? If it's the latter, this sets a new low, akin to US Nazis posting G.Washington's picture on their rally stage.

I never thought that the Democrats could outdo their previous irresponsible behavior but they will definitely do it if they pass this pile of crap. Their stupidity and lack of common sense is astounding. I hate to say it, but every single day my appreciation for Bill Clinton increases. With the exception of Zell Miller, he was about as good as it gets among modern-day Democrats. Believe me, it pains me to have to praise Clinton, but I never thought he would intentionally or unintentionally destroy the country in order to "make history," like the current group of Democratic leaders are going to do.

My Rep at the time was a lefty Dem who is all for unfunded mandates. He was defeated, but we're stuck with this situation for now. The interpreter clears $75-175/ per visit. We make little more than that on medicaid patients- and lose money if the paid interpreter sits in the lobby. I've had a family member interpreting have the gall to threaten me with a bill as well. Like I should pay them for the privilege of giving away free health care.
One of my last call nights I admitted 12 people. One third will never pay for the care they got. I was up all night giving charity care. Hospitals get a bundled payment acording to their relative burden of uninsured. There is no such thing for docs. We drive around to the ERs all night seeing people, many of who have no intention of paying.
I used to consider this part of the privilege of medicine, of caring for people when they are most vulnerable. However I am running into such an entitled selfish hateful mentality particularly among those on medicaid or who never intend to contribute to society, that I'm getting really burned out.
We have created a whole subset in society who clearly think they are just owed stuff out of the hard labor and resources of other people . . .because "it's not fair!" if they don't get free stuff.
It's really discouraging. I went to work at 6 am today, got off at 9 pm. My kids have no interest whatsoever in medicine. I used to wish that at least one of them had some interest, but honestly now I'm glad they don't.
I feel like getting a button that says "You don't have a RIGHT to my labor. " I'm sure some asshat would complain that I'm a mean Republican. Whatever.
When the politicians and lawyers give as much community service as I do month after month, then I'll listen to them.
Mommas, let your babies be cowboys . . .just don't let 'em be doctors.

Too true. Of course, the Left will say THIS TIME our idiotic Left-wing plan will work and will actually cost less, not more, than budgeted. We all know the oft-used defintion of "insanity" and we're seeing it on display right in front of our eyes. This is what happens when you have arrogant piles of crap like Obama and Pelosi in charge. They think their mere presence will ensure success. Puh-lease. Never has there been too more unqualified people to be in positions of leadership in this country.
Some will say I'm exaggerating but if they pass this thing, the America we all remember and love will be gone for good. For example, forced purchase of health care? What happened to having the right to choose regarding matters involving your own body anyway? That mantra isn't convenient for the Left in this debate, is it? Then, of course, we have the financial impact of this legislation, which will ensure we eventually go into default after years of little to no economic growth.

And also...

So what was the second vote?
Why did more vote for the adoption than the up or down vote?

Nixon's idiotic economic policies, like imposing wage and price controls, is also the primary reason we ended up with a health care system dominated by employer provided health insurance, which created many of the problems this horrible Democrat health care plan is claiming to address.
