— DrewM Here we go again.
Earlier it was reported by Pakistani media that intelligence agents had arrested Adam Gadahn, the American-born spokesman for al Qaeda, in an operation in the southern city of Karachi. It was further reported by the Associated Press and Reuters that Gadahn had been arrested, sourcing security officials.
CBS News was told by sources in the Pakistan government that it was Gadahn, even after U.S. officials refused to confirm it was the California native for whom a $1 million reward has been posted.
Now, CBS News' Farhan Bokhari in Islamabad writes that earlier reports the detained individual was Gadahn proved false. According to a Pakistan security official who spoke with CBS News on condition of anonymity, the arrested individual is in fact "a Taliban militant leader who is known as Abu Yahya."
There's been so many stops and starts with this guy, who knows. On the upside, if it's not him that means he's still available for a special Hellfire missile delivery via a Predator drone.
Thanks to 'trailortrash' for the heads up in the original thread.

Dan Blather, the most distinguised CBS correspondent and bullshitter ever, confirms the captured man is not Adam Gadahn, but is a very close relative of Dick Cheney's who renounced his family and all the conservative ideals they espoure to persue a life of liberal excellence in Pockestan.

Yes, but how are you supposed to capture them when you can't do that? Never really read a book or seen any policy that could answer that one. Lots of great theories, but not always practical.

My 2 cents: This is why we need an Intellegence Agency that relies more on HumanINT, like Mossad does, and is willing to make shady deals to get the big fish. Probably won't ever happen again for a long time, though.

Wouldn't they have to change all the guidelines set by the Church Commission?
"They were very specific about their effort to destroy American intelligence [capabilities]," remembers Robert Ellsworth, a U.S. diplomat. "It was Senator Church who said our intelligence agencies were 'rogue elephants.' They were supposedly out there assassinating people and playing dirty tricks and so forth...Well, that just wasn't true." Rumsfeld and Ellsworth prevented the committees from dismantling the CIA and other intelligence organizations.

My Toshiba flat-screen I bought at Xmas 2008 works fine with rabbit ears. Earlier models may require purchase of a digital converter box.

Yes, which is why I had the "probably won't ever happen again for a long time" caveat. The only thing that would expedite the needed changes would be a huge attack (on the scale of nuking several cities) on US soil, and then it would be too late.
At least in the end, there will be only chaos.

Wait, they can still do that? I thought because of the digital conversion, you couldn't get signal with the rabbit ears. Or can that work with the newer TVs?
Yes you can get digital signals over the air but they don't travel as far. The funny thing with digital is that you don't get the choice of good signal or snowy. You get good signal or no signal.
And all TVs have an input for signal. If all y7ou have is a 75 ohm coax input you just get a transformer. Most of the converters have a 75 ohm output though and also a component output.
Posted by: Vic at March 07, 2010 02:57 PM (QrA9E)
You know when you buy a tv and they have all those letters after it...like ATSC, well apparently if your tv has an ATSC tuner inside already it becomes important and enables you to use the rabbit ears without the digital converter and if you buy the right rabbit ears you get a digital hd signal over the air, for free, totally free. See my friends in NY have flat screen cause they live in half million dollar walk in closets so the first thing they do is buy a bran new flat screen and put it up on the wall so they can see it throughout the closet.

Any rabbit ears will work. I am using a 10' string of plain wire connected to a transformer pluged into the 75 ohm input on my converter box for the old TV upstairs.
Also, if some TVs are not working try moving the antena to in front of a window. In some buildings with sheet metal sheeting on the outside or a lot of rebar in the concrete those things act as Faraday Cages and block any electronic signal from getting in or out.
