CBS?
CBS is... out?
CBS is out?!
Now usually you morons don't read the article-parts here and just focus on the raw numbers, which is usually fine, because, honestly, I haven't read the article-part I'm posting. I'm just deciding, "Oh, there's three paragraphs, must be something in there worth reading, I'll cut and paste that."
Okay, so yeah I don't read this stupid blog either as we all know.
But stay with this excerpt for a tasty little treat at the end.
Republicans now hold an eight point lead over Democrats in the generic ballot, with 45 percent of likely voters saying they would support the Republican candidate for the House, and 37 percent saying they would support the Democrat. Last month Republicans led Democrats by a margin of only 2 points...President Obama's overall favorability remains steady, the poll indicates, with 44 percent positive ratings and 45 percent negative, but his ratings on the economy are lower than ever before: 38 percent of respondents approved of his handling of the issue, while 50 percent disapproved. Last month, 41 percent approved, and 51 percent disapproved.
But while Democrats have lately been making widespread efforts to diminish the so-called "enthusiasm gap" between Republican and Democratic voters, the poll, which was conducted from October 1 - 5, indicates that the gap has in fact expanded. Sixty percent of Republicans said they were more enthusiastic than usual about voting this year, while only 40 percent of Democrats said the same. Last month, 47 Democrats and 58 percent of Republicans said they were more excited than usual to vote.
At forty-nine percent, Independents are now more enthusiastic than Democrats, the poll indicates.
Now that's somethin'. Independents are now 1) inclined to vote Republican and 2) are more enthusiastic about doing so than Democrats.
At the link Dan has another poll, about something. Tea Party, maybe, or some other thing. I don't know. I read those four paragraphs above and I think that's plenty.

It's no surprise to me that Independents are more enthusiastic about voting Republican than Democrats are.

I'm telling you, when one side is expected to win (only a Q of how big), making hte election even more high profile only hurts the loosing side. Dems only two strategies, IMO, are to depress turnout/interest overall... or to insert a nasty wedge issue to scare indy's away from the GOP candidate.

If you think about it, all we need to do is flip 5% of the voters back on our side and we can change the complexion of American politics.

Have you noticed the nightly news talking heads act as though they're chewing lemons when they are forced to say "polls show voters prefer the GOP ... "? Not that I watch them that often but I thought I would see how they're taking all of this. Not well, it appears.
I thought the polls might ease back a little (but still in favor of the GOP) but it seems the polls are showing things getting worse and worse for the Dems. Is this the October surprise, fake poll? Not likely but I don't trust liberals.

President Obama's overall favorability remains steady, the poll indicates, with 44 percent positive ratings and 45 percent negative
What this indicates is that the Bradley Effect (from James Taranto at WSJ Best of the Web) keeps the poll respondents from answering honestly about how they feel about Obama as a person, for fear of expressing some sort of racist attitude. His personal favorability rating is completely decoupled from his ratings on how he handles the issues:
Country on WRONG track 63%
Dissatisfied or downright ANGRY at how things are going in Washington 74%
Obama has not brought change to the country or has made things WORSE 57%

1.) The stoopid "young voters" that turned out to vote for Barry are not your typical mid-term voters. On top of that, they're still very open to... dare I say it... change, and many are flipping their votes. Not only that, these young voters who will actually turn out to vote will be the ones jazzed to vote, which means if they are voting it likely means it's because they are voting R, for a large number of them.
2.) Add that to the fact it's even worse year for Democratic enthusiasm and a particularly potent year for Republican enthusiasm... and then the Indy enthusiasm (which means they're jazzed to eff the ruling party) and what do you have?

If you go to the CBS site and click on the poll PDF, then scroll down to the last page, you get the breakdown of the respondents. I don't know how this might "skew" the results, but I'm betting the gap is even wider than what CBS is willing to report:
Total R/D/I: 27/33/40
Total Registered R/D/I: 30/34/36
Maybe it's just me, but that seems awfully lopsided AGAINST the Pubbies, given the enthusiasm gap. There's no way that more Dems show up at the polls than Repubs, right?

And if by some hook and crook the Democrats win, then buy wheelbarrow futures because if we can't throw these jerks out, America is screwed. And those numbers that I listed are the WEIGHTED averages; there were far fewer Democrats polled than Pubs and Indies:
Totals: 388R/301D/440I (Unweighted) 308R/370D/451I (Weighted)
Total Registered: 372R/273D/373I (Unweighted) 265R/305D/329I (Weighted)
I don't know how poll "weighting" is done, but if the trending that we've been seeing is any indication, that 8% generic number is WAAAAAYYY off.

This poll also reflects the business need of polling firms and news outlets to start telling the truth as Election Day approaches. Until about 30 days out, they can manipulate the numbers however they like to try to influence voters. At 30 days out, they have to start worrying about whether they will come close to predicting actual outcomes on Election Day, which is how the relative value of their services will be judged in the run-up to the next election.
Thus CBS's polling operation has to drop its Obama advocacy and instead focus on measuring (not shaping) actual voter sentiment. Must be painful for them.

Because of the breakdown of the 33 Seats that are up for re-election this year. In 2012, the breakdown is almost 2-to-1 D-to-R; we weren't that lucky this time around. We have to keep all of the R seats we already have, and add at least 10 more to hold a majority. I believe there are only 14 D seats in play, so it's a much more difficult hill this time around.

I can't help but find fascinating Obama's dramatic fall from grace. They thought he was the f-ing messiah and now his support for a democrat makes people less likely to vote for him. Mother in law says he lost whites because he showed that he didn't give a rats ass about them. I think he doesn't give a rats ass about anybody at all, only his idealolgy and completing his abandoning father's mission--like somehow that would get his love.

It's possible that West Virginia's voters want Manchin to remain as governor in a job they believe he's doing well rather than indulge his personal political ambition by sending him to Washington. An employer who has an employee doing a great job in a given slot is not obliged to move that employee out of that slot just because the employee asks him to.

Women coming out of that office are proud as can be of their signs and their bumper stickered cars. Men on the other hand look like they just got caught by their wife kissing their neighbor... But today, high-level administration officials say the still-controversial Geithner isn't going anywhere. If anything, Geithner's stature and influence at the White House have risen after a string of policy successes.
He's credited with helping to revive the banking sector, cut projected losses from the $700-billion bailout fund to about $50 billion and push through the most sweeping overhaul of financial rules since the Great Depression. That legislation significantly enhances his powers as Treasury secretary.
"The president is very, very comfortable with Tim," White House senior advisor David Axelrod said. "Tim's proven himself over very difficult terrain, and he is a calm, steady, thoughtful presence, so there's no doubt the relationship they've formed is a strong one.... I expect him to be here for some time to come."
With Obama's top economic aide, Lawrence Summers, stepping down at year's end, Geithner, 49, is poised to become the dean of the president's economic team.

Its uncanny how Kathleen just continues to sit there looking on while Elliott is engaged in debate. All she does is chime in every once in a while to prod the conversation along.

I get what you're saying but it's not black folk's fault that Obama set their cause back another 100 years.
Except for the ignoring his authenticity and turning out in record numbers to vote for him thing.

It is fucked up. The dumb squishes in the middle who thought they were being openminded by voting for a black candidate have been burned. Since they don't pay much attention to politics, its easiest for them to simply internalize a "No Black Candidate" rule than actually evaluate a candidate on his or her individual merits. It sucks of you're a truly qualified candidate who happens to be black.

Then, we'll pull it out and call the dog over and I'll smear some peanut butter on it real quick. You tape the Barack Obama picture to his face. I cut out a place for his nose and snout to go through it.

Yes, well, a lot of well-meaning non-Black folks did the same damn thing. And some of them are just as stubbornly unwilling to see what a huge mistake they made.

I don't think they are "well meaning". They have a chip. They like the idea of redistribution which requires a level of bitterness that well meaning folks don't have. If, of course, they have thought that far.

They don't think. They feel. And they felt that engaging in the ultimate act of affirmative action would make them feel all warm and fuzzy, and that somehow their feeling had to mean that it was good for the country. (And, conversely, that anyone who didn't feel the same way had to be an evil racist hater and thus bad for the country.)
Well-meaning folks are the ones who set the wheels in motion on the road to slums and race riots and death camps.

Well, if what you say is true, then he must be seriously disturbed, with a pathological need to be abused and mocked. Perhaps he's an adolescent whose peers want nothing to do with him, and his only interaction with people that aren't his relatives is his trolling this blog.
Gee, now I am a little sad for the pathetic creature.
