— Ace Which I don't even believe. I think it's likely Republican and he knows it, but according to the numbers he has to say Toss Up.
Meanwhile, everyone is endorsing Manchin. Assuming he will win, I guess. So Raese is fighting uphill against that.
Although Manchin remains popular – his job approval rating in a September 19 Rasmussen survey was 69 percent – he must make the transition from being the state's chief executive to being a federal candidate in a hostile climate for his party. A case in point is President Obama whose approval ratings in West Virginia are some of his lowest nationally. According to the PPP survey, Obama's job ratings were 30-percent approve to 64-percent disapprove. At the same time, Manchin is getting help from some unlikely sources. It’s not surprising that he’s been endorsed by the major labor unions, but he’s also gotten the endorsement of the Chamber of Commerce. Even more surprising is today’s endorsement from the West Virginia Coal Association, which is a very direct slap at Raese, who is in the coal business.
And the NRA, too, so if you're a West Virginia NRA member, you should give them a piece of your mind.

Anyone on the ground there know how much that actually matters? From the outside it sounds pretty bad - just wondering what kinda clout they have with the voters or if anyone really cares what they think.

Goddamnit, how many times do people have to talk about how the NRA picks endorsements and that they're a gun rights group not a conservative group?
Machin's been in government and thus has an established voting and executive record in relation to gun rights. Raese, although I'm certain he's very pro gun, does not have that record. NRA will always go for the actions over the words, even if the words are very nice.

when control of one of the houses of congress are in the air and your choice is the group that is the gun grabbers even if this individual isn't one or the group that actually says the second amendment means exactly what it says, who should they endorse? Sure they're not a conservative group but they need to view things with a much larger scope than they have been.

Overall, people have to realize there is no such thing as a moderate Democrat anymore. Whatever they claim on the campaign trail, they've shown they will give Pelosi and Obama their votes when needed.

Undeniably true. See Dingell, John, who is Demunist except for that one gun issue, where he is *always* reliably pro-gun. Hence he gets NRA support.

From the NRA perspective, control of Congress by either party isn't important so long as individual members vote pro-2nd Amendment. There's a reason that the Dems haven't been pushing anti-gun votes despite holding the White House, House and Senate- it would be a death sentence for the "conservative" Dems in red districts if they voted for it.
Every so often you hear about an anti-gun bill, but lately they've been destined to die in committee.

Fairfax, Va.-- The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is endorsing Brad Ellsworth for election to the U.S. Senate this November.
"Brad Ellsworth has defended the Second Amendment freedoms and hunting traditions of Indianans in the U.S. House of Representatives," said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF. "He has earned the NRA-PVF endorsement in his bid for the U.S. Senate."

Yes, it would be ass to turn on the guy now just because he has a GOP challenger. I think when you have Donks who seem almost like real Americans you have to stick by them.
Also, endorsing a Dem here and there keeps the GOP from taking gun rights groups for granted.

That's the big picture that I say the NRA should be looking at. They just endorsed the Dem hack in my district yesterday, because of his past record. But I'll bet if he wasn't representing a district like mine here in PA he wouldn't be so pro-NRA. Then they turned around and also gave the Republican a top rating too except he doesn't have a Congressional voting record but they endorsed the Dem. That's a bullshit move. Basically their position is that as a long as an incumbent votes our way we're in favor of the incumbent. But do they look at the judges voted for by the Senators? The effects that vote has on Judicial anti-gun activism? We won Heller by one vote; I'm sure Kagan was voted for by Democrats the NRA endorsed.
Or the fact that the Party in power sets the legislative agenda? If the Dems weren't in control of Congress we wouldn't have to worry about the laws they put forth. There wouldn't be Democrats who voted against a bill....be cause the bill wouldn't have made it that far.
So this all shows that the NRA is invested in the good ol' boy network. They do not deserve your money.

My understanding was that Manchin didn't resign the Governor's office, and that if he lost, he would still be Governor, correct? if so, then that might explain the way endorsements are being parcelled out. If Raese wins, he'll win himself some new friends, but Manchin will still be in the Governor's seat.

The NRA has an explicitly declared pro-incumbent stance, see the NRO interview with Chris Cox.
Also, the NRA has taken an official "no position" position in the Nevada and Florida senate races, so big no help there.

Which is why I give to the 2nd Amendment Foundation. It's time for the NRA to realize who their roots are, and why a pro-incumbent position is bad. How many NRA endorsed Senators voted for Kagan? Think she's pro-2nd?

My thinking as well. It's actually pretty easy to follow the logic here. If Manchin loses, he's still governor and you don't want to be the one who turned your back on the governor. If Raese wins, you can explain that your hands were tied because you didn't want to be the one who turned his back on the governor.
