— DrewM From those bastards at....NBC.
Yes, pointing out that being charged with evading taxes and breaking House ethics rules might lead to a Congressman losing his office is disrespectful. Can you imagine if Rangel had realized that was Tim Russert's kid? I would have loved to have heard him say, "you're dad would be ashamed of you".
As I said in the comments in yesterday's Rangel thread, as a political junkie I have a soft spot for an old dinosaur like him. The world has changed in the 40 years since he came to office. Sure there's still plenty of corruption, it's just usually a bit sublter these days. But Rangel hasn't changed and he can't understand where the hell some punk from NBC (NBC!) gets off asking the great Charlie Rangel such disrespectful questions or even entertaining such thoughts.
The irony is Rangel gained office by displacing a worn out and corrupt Adam Clayton Powell Jr in 1970. The circle is almost complete.
Don't get me wrong, I think Rangel and his kind belong in jail. That's pretty much the way these stories have to end. He's a guy, like Arlen Specter, who can't imagine life with out the title. He'll either be carted off in handcuffs or carried out on a stretcher but he'll never leave on his own.
Fortunately it looks like there's a healthy House cleaning coming and a bunch of would be Emperor Rangels are going to be dealt with long before they get to this point.
Thanks to Andrew's Dad for the video.

The type that consider themselves above politics. They aren't left or right, they are perfect. They are above petty squabbles, they just want to do what is correct for the people.
That is the whole point of our "petty squabbles". Each side(there are more than 2) have ideas on how best to run this country, you are either fighting for your side/belief or you are letting the other guys win.
You don't get to stay above the fray and then pretend you are the only righteous person.

I agree with Drew. The times have changed since these men entered poltics, and even though he is a scumbag, you have to find it interesting that Charlie Rangel didn't change at all. He's an anochronistic politician.
There is a whole generation of politicos who are being left behind by the less corrupt politics of now. I know we are still pretty corrupt, but there was a time where it was ridiculously corrupt and accepted practice.
I remember during the Scott Brown win, Chris Matthews let slip on the air that he was dissappointed that Massachusett(e)s had changed so much since the days of his youth, when people would be given walking around money and would bribe people to show up at the polls and vote.
It's an age gone by, and good riddence, but it is kind interesting to see someone unabashedly proud of their corruption. It doesn't mean he's likable, but it is mildly entertaining. Kind of like a pig wallowing in its own filth, i want nothing to do with it, but i'll watch.

$$$$$: Happy Birthday, buddy!
Sneed hears real estate mogul Neil Bluhm is tossing a private birthday party here for President Obama, who turns 49 on Aug. 4.
• The shocker: The dinner invite to the Barack bash at Bluhm's home requires a $30,000 donation to the Democratic National Committee!
• The stunner: Obama is also scheduled to be in town Aug. 5 for a fund-raiser at the Palmer House for U.S. Senate hopeful Alexi Giannoulias, who is hoping to capture Uncle Rocky's old seat.
Obama is having a fundraiser for Alexi? really?

I saw a graphic a few years ago somewhere that showed the Dems vs. Republicans in Congress monetary and property assets and the Dems by far were much richer. They didn't get that way from giving their money away to the needy, they just force us to.
Remember when the MFM put out the meme about the McCains being uber rich and chastising them for owning more than one home? Funny how that meme didn't come up when Kerry was running in '04 although he and Teresa have much more money than John and Cindy do and own about 11 or 12 homes all across the world.

Megyn Kelly is busy right now defending Osama Obama against Tom Tancredo's assertion that the Traitor-in-Chief should be impeached. "It's absurd," she whines.
Nice legs, but the soul of a true Ed "Pillsbury Doughboy" Morrissey.
I agree on the nice legs, but disagree on the assesment of Kelly not wishing to impeach Obama as her having the soul of Ed Morrissey.
Thing you have to understand about Kelly is that she is, in her heart, a lawyer first. She adheres to the principle of law.
Ok, now, Obama is an absolute disaster. He's killing our economy. If he's not wiping us out with idiotic progessive legislation he's killing us with a combination of incompetence and outright stupidity.
But there's one small problem here, it's legal. By law he is the legally elected President of the United States of America. Under the Constitution the only way you can impeach him is if he commits a "high crime or misdemeanor", but sadly being a worthless liberal incompetent jerk off isn't a crime under our law.
Whether or not it should be is a point that could be debated, but currently it isn't so Obama hasn't really done anything for which he can be impeached. So yes, I'd love to see Obama thrown out on his ass. Sadly though I am one of those that also wants to see the law respected, by everyone - so I can't really support the notion that Obama should be impeached.
You might also wish to note that it is the Senate that would try him in any event, and at least at the moment it would be a totally moot point. Even if they could get the votes to impeach him, which is laughable, they'd never get anywhere near enough votes to remove him from office.

The only surprise to me is that he's allowing this even though neither one of the happy about-to-be newlyweds are....on Eric Shabazz Holder's protected list.

Dude, I don't even pretend to be a lawyer, but it strikes me that if someone with legal training were to go through the list of the Traitor-in-Chief's misfeasances and malfeasances, during the campaign and since, they'd find more than one impeachable "high crime or misdemeanor." Probably a number of felonies, too.
Yes, he might win in the Senate (probably would, considering the cowardice rampant there), but the mere fact of impeachment would probably compel him to quit. His massive ego couldn't stand the fact of impeachment itself, not to mention the public airing of the long, long, list of charges and evidence against him.
If Megyn Kelly had asked Tancredo to explain the reasoning behind his call instead of dismissing him like a Palin questioner in the comments section at Tepid Air, I'd still have some respect for her.

Projection. The race thing was Obama's 2010 strategy. That's why the uncomfortable NAACP did the condemnation. It's all to increase black turnout and this dumb writer doesn't see it.
Breitbart blew it up and Obama won't go near race again.

I wonder how many other potential Dem embarrassments are going to be dealt with before the next House is seated, just so as to leave less room for embarrassment when the new leadership starts kicking over rocks.

My sentiments exactly. They'd rather attempt to cull this anthrax laden sheep themselves and appear to be all about law & order and decency before the Republicans do it for them. Evidently they got the message somewhere that Rangel would be one of the first targets once the Republicans came back to power.

You know what really cracks me up about this phrase is that these JournoList douchebags with world-class educations totally missed out on the opportunity to use the wonderfully descriptive and synonymous term "defenestration". I'm a blue-collar college dropout and even I know what it means.

Sadly, no. While most of what he has done probably should be illegal - the bribes, kickbacks, chicago style politics, etc.. none of it is technically a violation of our law. Sad but true. I would guess if there ever good be a serious investigation they might turn up some proof, particularly with the whole Blago debacle - but it will never happen. Sadly what you know and what you can prove in court are two entirely different things.
Yes, he might win in the Senate (probably would, considering the cowardice rampant there), but the mere fact of impeachment would probably compel him to quit. His massive ego couldn't stand the fact of impeachment itself, not to mention the public airing of the long, long, list of charges and evidence against him.
Well the impeachment process starts in the House, first the House Judiciary committee has to decide to proceed with the impeachment. Then it has to be voted on by the entire House of Representatives. If the House passes this measure the President is impeached. He is not, however, at this point removed from office. The impeachment proceedings are passed to the Senate. The Senate must then vote to remove the President from office by a 2/3's majority.
There have only been two President's in history that have been successfully impeached, and only four serious discussions of impeachement have ever taken place. Andrew Jackson and William Jefferson Clinton were both impeached by the House of Representatives, but neither was removed from office by the Senate. John Tyler and Richard Nixon both had impeachment proceedings start in the House of Representatives, the measure failed in Tyler's case and Nixon resigned before the House voted on his impeachment.
So your looking at a serious, uphill battle to begin with, even if you happen to have rock solid proof that the President has broken the law, and to date no President has ever been removed from office as a result.
If Megyn Kelly had asked Tancredo to explain the reasoning behind his call instead of dismissing him like a Palin questioner in the comments section at Tepid Air, I'd still have some respect for her.
I still have plenty of respect for her.. and her legs. But seriously, Kelly knows that there really isn't anything to back up an impeachment charge. Tancredo should know that too.

This irrational fear manifests itself as irrational behavior as Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) and Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) were spat upon and called ni**er and Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) was called a fa**ot by members of the Tea Party.
It's just semantics, nothing more. Would John Lewis have been offended if someone in the crowd had called out, "You, you, you Negro, you!!!" And would Barney Frank's feelings have been hurt if Dick Armey had called him a "Hom-o-sex-ual". In Barney's case, I suspect that it gave him a cheap, kinky thrill and free publicity, kinda like whenever a neurotic Andrew Sullivan used to out himself on TV at every opportunity. (Yeah, right, like nobody would have surmised that Andy was light in his loafers.)

How dare you question the fact that I ride around in a golden chariot. How dare you question that I live in a marbled plaice. How dare you question that my robes cost more than you make in two months. How dare you question the amount of golden coins I distribute to my followers. Heard about this on talk radio this morning. How obvious do they have to be in showing that the networks have been in the tank for them? "You have to make a name for yourself"?????? He has a "name" dumbass and it's Russert. Perhaps Russert is going the way of Chris Wallace--not the opposite of Daddy but not fully completely and utterly in the tank.
I have no soft spot for this criminal. He thinks he's off the hook because of "racism" phoniness and his consituents being brain dead.
