— LauraW I'm turning 40 this year. Will not be a cougar. That whole thing's pretty stupid, in my worthless opinion.*
The department store said a nationwide analysis of the most popular lingerie styles from October 2009 to April 2010, revealed that women over 40 have given the more seductive side of the lingerie industry a big boost."Positive female role models in this age group such as the women in the Sex and the City movies and Courteney Cox in TV's Cougar Town are giving the women confidence to splash out on themselves," Debenhams head lingerie buyer Annette Warburton said in a statement.
The technical term for this phenomenon is 'deranged denial.'
Sex and the City. Egad.
Those four old sluts were positive female role models? Oh my. Bitches, get right with God, put your head back on your shoulders, and kick that man-child out of your bed.**

Role Model.
I mean, CRIKEY, do we have to assemble your whole lifetime of photographs into some kind of cruel time-lapse flipbook so that you can understand just exactly what has happened to you?
Now, there are many many beautiful and sexy older women. But 40 is not, never will be, 'the new 20.' It's only the new 20 for those who never learned not to behave like an alleycat the first time around.
*This is kind of an unusually negative post for me. I fully expect and demand a beating.
**Unless he married you, in which case, Congratulations! You have a son.

Anyone who thinks that G-d is not a vengeful G-d has not thought seriously about the fact that Sarah Jessica Parker is clearly divine punishment inflicted upon Matthew Broderick for accidently killing those two women in Ireland in 1987.
A punishment worse than death, I say.

Not that I'm defending cougars or anything, but isn't it true that women in their 40s reach a sexual peak equivalent to men in their 20s? So, from a sexual partner standpoint, really the two pair well together.
And before anyone accuses me of hunting younger prey, I do not date men under 35 years old.

Lauraw,
Congrats on turning 40. My wife is 46, and I think she's smoking hawt. 40 can be sexy, it all depends on how you approach it. I don't mean go out and buy tube tops or miniskirts with rear handle bars. Just play it as the wiser, more experienced mattress kitten you are.
It worked for me.

Hmmm. I don't associate 20 with alleycat. I associate it with independence, optimism, and freedom.
I never 'felt my age' until a few years ago. It began when I turned 40 but only because my eyes started to go - in other respects I still felt young (or ageless). The feeling old(er) part and concomitant feelings of dependency, pessimism, and serfdom (for want of a better word) hit when I lost not one job but two in quick succession and realized how big a risk my hubby and I took moving out to California. Then he had a health scare (now resolved, thankfully) and I really lost it.
I'm finally coming out of that and am starting to feel (and look) better than I have in quite a while. Not quite a cougar, but one hell of a housecat.
Anyway, I think 40 should be celebrated in women. (And men.) There really are some great looking women over 40 and, more importantly, are the ones who combine good looks with self-confidence.
I've never really found anyone in their early 20s to be anywhere near as attractive as a person with equally good features in their 30s and 40s.
In short, I wouldn't want to go back to my 20s. I'd take a shot at my 30s again, but not my 20s.

My wife is six years older and she's still my "cougar", lol. It's meant with affection. And on that note, It's time to repost Ben Franklin's great 1745 treatise:
"Advice to a Young Man on the Choice of a Mistress (1745).
June 25, 1745
My dear Friend,
I know of no Medicine fit to diminish the violent natural Inclinations you mention; and if I did, I think I should not communicate it to you. Marriage is the proper Remedy. It is the most natural State of Man, and therefore the State in which you are most likely to find solid Happiness. Your Reasons against entering into it at present, appear to me not well-founded. The circumstantial Advantages you have in View by postponing it, are not only uncertain, but they are small in comparison with that of the Thing itself, the being married and settled. It is the Man and Woman united that make the compleat human Being. Separate, she wants his Force of Body and Strength of Reason; he, her Softness, Sensibility and acute Discernment. Together they are more likely to succeed in the World. A single Man has not nearly the Value he would have in that State of Union. He is an incomplete Animal. He resembles the odd Half of a Pair of Scissars. If you get a prudent healthy Wife, your Industry in your Profession, with her good Economy, will be a Fortune sufficient.
But if you will not take this Counsel, and persist in thinking a Commerce with the Sex inevitable, then I repeat my former Advice, that in all your Amours you should prefer older Women to younger ones. You call this a Paradox, and demand my Reasons. They are these:
i. Because as they have more Knowledge of the World and their Minds are better stor'd with Observations, their Conversation is more improving and more lastingly agreable.
2. Because when Women cease to be handsome, they study to be good. To maintain their Influence over Men, they supply the Diminution of Beauty by an Augmentation of Utility. They learn to do a 1000 Services small and great, and are the most tender and useful of all Friends when you are sick. Thus they continue amiable. And hence there is hardly such a thing to be found as an old Woman who is not a good Woman.
3. Because there is less hazard of Children, which irregularly produc'd may be attended with much Inconvenience.
4. Because thro' more Experience, they are more prudent and discreet in conducting an Intrigue to prevent Suspicion. The Commerce with them is therefore safer with regard to your Reputation. And with regard to theirs, if the Affair should happen to be known, considerate People might be rather inclin'd to excuse an older Woman who would kindly take care of a younger Man, form his Manners by her good Counsels, and prevent his ruining his Health and Fortune among mercenary Prostitutes.
5. Because in every Animal that walks upright, the Deficiency of the Fluids that fill the Muscles appears first in the highest Part: The Face first grows lank and wrinkled; then the Neck; then the Breast and Arms; the lower Parts continuing to the last as plump as ever: So that covering all above with a Basket, and regarding only what is below the Girdle, it is impossible of two Women to know an old from a young one. And as in the dark all Cats are grey, the Pleasure of corporal Enjoyment with an older Woman is at least equal, and frequently superior, every Knack being by Practice capable of Improvement.
6. Because the Sin is less. The debauching a Virgin may be her Ruin, and make her for Life unhappy.
7. Because the Compunction is less. The having made a young Girl miserable may give you frequent bitter Reflections; none of which can attend the making an older Woman happy.
8thly and Lastly -- They are so grateful!!
Thus much for my Paradox. But still I advise you to marry directly; being sincerely Your affectionate Friend.

I always dated younger guys because they were the ones who asked me out. So I guess I was a cougar before it became fashionable. Current boyfriend is three years younger, which to my mind is not even an age difference.
(I never watched one episode of SITC or Friends or any of that nouveau-PoMo-sitcom pablum.. FWIW). Sometimes it's just genetics, or personality, or plain old chemistry that comes into play.

I've often said it, but it bears repeating: modern society played a really nasty trick on women. In most of human history, females used their younger years to find a mate and build a family. Then came the so-called "sexual revolution" that told them they could defer marriage and family indefinitely. Well, it turns out this is not so -- women who are unmarried at 40 are very likely to remain so.
Time works against women and in favor of men in the mating game. It's not fair, but that's how it is. Men tend to gain in power and prestige as they get older, which attracts younger women. Older women also gain in earning power, but this is less attractive to men in a prospective mate. Men look for sexual appeal, not earning power. Older women obviously chase younger men for the same basic reason, but women are far less likely then men to be in it only for sexual gratification.
This whole "cougar" phenomenon is going to lead to an entire generation of very emotionally damaged -- and single -- women, I think.

Why dudes go after women in their 20s is beyond me. They may be hot, but damned if very many of them know what to do with what they got. My personal rule when I was single was - no women under 30. After 30, their libido kicks in and they've got some experience. And most importantly, chances are higher that they can actually carry on a decent conversation.
That rule was flexible down to 28.

Going to lead? Monty, if you've talked to some women in their 20s, with the exception of our highly intelligent and well rounded moronettes here, a lot of them are already very emotionally damaged. These are girls who started giving blow jobs to boys when they were twelve. They are girls who have been raised to think the ideal body is size 0 and they are the first generation to be plugged in to all the social media, and the good and the bad that goes along with that. Drunk photos of you puking in an alley? Check. Mocking posts, texts, and twitters about you? Check. Boyfriends breaking up on FB? Check.
Our youth is fucked. Unfortunately, with the exception of some, they don't even realize it. They think their behavior is normal.

(I'm pretty bitter than no one sat me down when I was 15 and told me that I could go to school and get a job etc, after I was married and had kids, but the inverse was unlikely to impossible.)
There are a lot of reasons why this is so -- the cultural shift was too sudden and too absolute for people to be able to take the consequences in. Women, post-1945, went from being homemakers and wives to being a major component of the workforce. The 1960's brought along the concept of sexual freedom as well. The problem, of course, is that this change conflicted with everything everybody knew about interaction between the sexes in Western society. We had no template for dealing with the power-struggles and personal-life-vs-family issues. We still don't.
Men have been ruthlessly marginalized by the post-1960's cultural revolution. It wasn't entirely intentional, but it's happened nonetheless. Women were told that men weren't necessary, that marriage and family were more a "lifestyle" than a necessity, and that a woman could (and should!) define herself by her work rather than her home life. In short, the culture asked that women begin behaving more like men. Men were not willing to play along and act more feminine, so it led to the horrible schism you see in so many places today.
It's more of an urban phenomenon than a rural one, but one odd aspect of this problem that you see all around is that marriage is now considered mainly an upper-class thing. Poor people, women and men both, have pretty much dispensed with marriage. Poor men are much more likely to be unemployed for long periods of time than in previous ages, and poor females are much more likely to be involved with many men -- multiple children often imply multiple fathers as well. And the economic burden is often borne by the county, state, and federal governments; the biological fathers are neither willing nor able to care for their offspring. The children themselves grow up rootless and confused, with no strong male presence in their lives.
There is some evidence that this culture is changing, albeit slowly, that the "hook up" culture of the 1990's and 2000's is giving way to a more traditional relationship model. But it will take years for the Millennials to establish cultural patterns, and I'm not hopeful that they will reverse the trend.

In short, the culture asked that women begin behaving more like men. Men were not willing to play along and act more feminine, so it led to the horrible schism you see in so many places today.
I am reminded of Gloria Steinem's statement that "what I want is a humanizing of gender roles--not an exchanging of them." Instead, what actually happened was a *denial* of gender roles. And the results have not turned out well at all.

Yep. I used to see this in the poor, sad, overweight girls who'd put out just to get guys to pay attention to them. It never worked out like they thought it would -- it just meant that the guys called them "slut" as well as "fatso".
For most men, sex is just...sex. We disconnect the physical act from the emotions much more than women seem to be able to. I think that's why promiscuity is far more damaging to women than it is to men. Again, not fair; but Life Is Not Fair(tm), as I never tire of pointing out.

I once foolishly asked a woman asked a woman why she watched SATC. She told me that it depicted "women's issues" accurately.
So what - now it's aired 24-7 on Lifetime TV?
My first exposure to that heinous network is burned on my brain. I was at a friend's, she was watching the last half hour of a show about a teenager who was kidnapped by a perv who was going to star her in internet porn. Of course right before the point of no return, the police bust into the dungeon and save the youngster.
Commercial break, next show comes on. This one is about a housewife terrorized by somebody, can't even recall who or what. I asked my friend "How can you watch this shit, every female character is a VICTIM! And besides, it's fracking depressing..."
*oh wait, never mind...*

What gets me is that the 20 something women (again moronettes excluded) debase themselves regularly and they accept being treated poorly as some sort of feminist ideal, like they are the ones who are pulling one over on the guys.
And yet the young women who respect themselves, who treat their bodies with dignity, and who exhibit intelligence are mocked and dismissed and have difficulty finding men to date.

Five minutes of Alpha beats five years of beta. Most women would rather have a five day affair with Charlie Sheen, even now, than be married to Jon Cryer.
That's just the way it is.
The flip side, is women should not expect chivalry, or really any concern whatsoever by men for them when they lose hotness. And face facts, women lose hotness quick. A woman's peak beauty is between 16-22. At age 27 she starts to lose beauty fast, and by age 35 most are not very pretty or sexy any more.
A few genetically gifted women can maintain a semblance of their former beauty, but the sad fact is a plain 18 year old will beat the most beautiful 50 year old. Christie Brinkley, a very beautiful 50+ woman, found that out when her husband was screwing a babysitter of IIRC, all of 17-18.
Our current model (and women would not have it any other way, they are the ones who created it) makes men irrelevant and un-needed except for being Charlie Sheen bad boys. But the flip side is ladies, all men care about is how hot you are.
Courteney Cox was smoking hot once, but now even a relatively plain gal like Amber Tamblyn will draw more heads than Cox.

I married a solid decade older than I am. She and I make a great team, and we've made great children.
I was in my late 20's when we got married. I'm in my early 30's now.
Basically, the appeal to her was that she had already "figured out" who she was. And who she was just so happened to be someone that I really wanted to be with.
The biggest fear that I held from my previous long-term relationship stemmed from how much that person changed over the course of just a few years. This person and I started dating while in college, and during the course of graduating, finding jobs that we were happy with and finding a place that we were happy with, all of a sudden I woke up one morning and realized that she and I both had become vastly different people than the two that had originally started dating.
And I attribute a lot of that "confusion time" that people in their 20's face now to what Monty and others are pointing out. Girls grow up watching their mommies be mommies, and then all of a sudden, they get told by outside sources that HEY! You don't have to do that if you don't want to! Look at those yucky diapers! Look at those ugly rubber gloves and dirty dishes! How demeaning! You can be President Vice President Secretary of State! And now, all of a sudden, a girl who had spent years and years and years playing in her little kitchenette, cooking up little dinners of blocks and Play-Doh for her stuffed animals is shoved into a new paradigm. What do I want to be? Who the hell am I?
Am I saying that all women should aspire to be nothing more than housewives? Certainly not. I completely understand that it is a role that is not for everyone, and certainly not for the weak of heart (or stomach). The problem comes from society re-scoping that role to be a dead-end.
It was a role my wife had never really gotten to experience much in her pre-reason life. She'd always had to be a worker, and then a working-mother, and then a single-working-mother. And now, she finally has the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mommy, and to her, the opportunity to now be one is an absolute blessing.
So really, to the Liberated Feminists of the world, I have to ask...why do you want to take away a child's mother?

To a certain extent I agree with you Monty, especially when it comes to women in their 30s and up. However, having spent time with 20 somethings—way too many nieces and nephews, I do think that thanks to the debauched behavior of a lot of 20 something women the 20 something guys don’t even bother looking for someone to necessarily date anymore—it’s all about the hook-up.
I was sitting next to a group of 20 something guys in a bar one evening (and no, I wasnÂ’t trying to pick them up) and we got to talking about the hook up scene. The guys, all 5 of them, told me that they no longer bother asking women out because all they have to do is sit back and women will hit on them. In the course of a few hours at the bar (I was there to listen to a great band) I watched as 20 something chick after 20 something chick came up and hit on this table full of guys, took them onto the dance floor, and all but dry humped them there.

As they say, it takes two to tango.
Any youngish guys out there care to admit that they prefer older women?
Post my first disastrous marriage (and still in recovery from a traumatized adolescence), I sure did. I was in my mid to late twenties (circa 1990's), I found older women with intelligence who could talk about politics and business and not just about the latest episode of "Friends" or Kurt Cobain's suicide.
At that time everyone in my immediate age range seemed to be married and not yet divorced, other than occassional forays with latina lovelies or the asian persuasion (in Northern Cali, the young women who like men don't speak english and the women who speak english don't like men).
In my late 20's, I found myself as either a teenybopper's "Old Man" who would buy them drinks because they could get into the club but could not buy, or an older lady's "boy toy". I definitely preferred the latter.

Women lie to themselves.
Well, everyone does: it's the human condition. Tubby bald guys tell themselves that beautiful girls will like them if they have "character". Uggos like me look at their ghastly phiz in the mirror and think, "That's just rugged good looks, that's all that is!"
The problem is not human nature (at least, no more than it always has been). The problem is what the culture has done. In previous ages, men and women were (I think) far more realistic about home, family, and marriage than they are now. By necessity. Of course, the gender roles were far more clearly-defined then, and women probably caught the short end of the stick far more often than now. But female empowerment has, in our culture, meant disempowering men and children. Rather than accomodate the female aspirations into the culture, we blew the traditional model completely apart...and failed to offer anything to replace it.
The worst mistake we ever made, as a culture, was in transforming sex from a private act between committed adults into a pastime. People have sex as casually now as if they're getting a beer from teh fridge, and with about as much forethought or consideration for the consequences. Birth-control divorced the sexual act from its very purpose, and caused a massive disconnect between mind and body: the body still assumes that the act is to produce children, but the mind knows that a child is unlikely. The physical urge is strong, but the mental urge pushes the physical urge into places it probably shouldn't go. (I think all kinds of sexual deviancy are far more common now than in the old days for precisely this reason.)

Leading with the vagina. Guys aren't going to say no to free vajizzle. "You mean I don't have to take you on a date or even buy you drinks all night? Sold!" It's different when you meet who you're meant to be with. I was so terrified of fucking things up with the girl who would become my wife, it was several dates before I could work up the nerve to kiss her goodnight. And I was 28, with a divorce a couple of years behind me. Quality will always tell.Posted by: Empire of Jeff at May 05, 2010 10:03 AM (xGIqT)

First, figure out the true age of both parties. No Cheating!
Take the older persons age, divide it by 2.
Take the remainder and add 7 years to it. This is your "Safe to Date" age.
If the younger person is, err, younger than your safe to date age, find someone older.
Or your pillow talk will suffer dramatically.
Just sayin'.

It's OK for you to make noise. This is NOT the kind of noise I want to hear right now! I want to hear you in my bed. Otherwise, we cougars feel like we are fucking a ninja. Unless you actually are a ninja, and have sneaked into our rooms with vibrating nanuchaku and zippered black pajamas, please, please make some noise. If you're banging a woman, and she's crying out and saying your name and moaning, and you can't even manage a grunt, she's going to feel like an idiot. You don't have to make the sounds she is making, but do SOMETHING. You know how when you are watching porn, and the girl does something great to the guy and the guy kind of goes "Ah!", half grunt, half yell? That's HOT. Do that. Whisper our name (assuming you know it) gruffly. Groan against our necks when you're in missionary position. You don't have to grunt like a mountain gorilla, but if you are totally mute, were going to get worried.

Agreed. Sexuality is an extremely powerful force and, like anything powerful, needs to be used wisely lest someone get hurt. I've tried to instill that notion in my daughters.
I also talk a lot with my 16 year old daughter on this very subject. These kids are surrounded by a culture of ghetto whores and irresponsible males that continuouly repeat the mantra that being sexed up 24/7 and "hooking up" is no big deal. Get pregnant? get an abortion. Get STD? go to the clinic. Easy right? Just be a "Player" and life is good.
Being a parent today of kids is to continually fight the horde in hollywood and the music industry.

Monty, part of it isn't society, it is technology.
How many of your parents or grandparents met in highschool, lived one town over from each other? The days if marrying your highschool sweet heart are coming to an end.
People are "stuck" in one town their entire lives. they have more options and sometimes more options isn't better. It leads people to delude themselves into not accepting comprimises that are so crucial to long term marriages.

Still, I think that blaming technology for it is confusing cause and effect. An honest man won't steal money, even if a stack of bills is lying in front of him. It's the mental model that comes first, not the situation.

I hate to break up the serious battle of the sexes with crass financial news, but the DJIA is absolutely tanking on news out of Europe. The Greek riots seem to have further convinced investors that the EU bailout will fail -- this fear is also leading them to short Portugal and Spain. I'm looking for a downgrade of Portugal's debt in the coming days from Standard and Poor's and maybe Moody's.
The US savings rate has dipped back after rising to nearly 5% last year. Why the switch back to consumerist behavior? Simple: zero-percent interest rates. What's the fricking point in banking your money? You're actually losing money on a passbook account if you take carrying costs, opportunity costs, and inflation into consideration.

The cultural shift has ruined more than just a young woman's behaviour. The men are lacking initiative in dating. though which came first, i cannot really say. 20something women's options are reduced. I havent dated someone who was less than 8 years older than me since i was 20 b/c if all i wanted was to get laid I can, thats easy! What about the early 20's chicks like me that have above normal intelligence, love talking politics, economics, world events etc, and do so articulately, but men my age are only looking for the easy lay or cant get anything out of thier mouth other than last night's baseball final score?
The cultural shift has ruined more than just a young woman's behaviour. The men are lacking initiative in dating. though which came first, i cannot really say. 20something women's options are reduced. I havent dated someone who was less than 8 years older than me since i was 20 b/c if all i wanted was to get laid I can, thats easy! Finding someone i actually want to be around longer than 5 minutes is a challenge anymore. I've basically written off any man born in the 80s and most 30 something men i know are in their first marriages so the pool seems to be shrinking.

Not really sure how people can miss "Gom Jabbar" as a Dune reference unless that word is being used for something else.

Now they've been given a 140 billion credit card that they're going to max out like a crack-whore with a stolen AMEX card.
I don't think so. First of all, there's the question of whether the money is actually going to arrive: Germany may yet scotch the deal on constitutional grounds. And the IMF will have very strict controls over how their portion can be used -- mainly to meet debt-maturation needs in May. That's what precipitated the crisis: a lot of Greek debt needs to roll over in about ten days, and the Greeks just haven't got the funds to cover it. Even if all the principals agree to pony up the cash, just getting the deal in place before the bonds mature is going to take some fancy dancing. And no matter what happens, the Greeks can pretty much forget about selling bonds to anyone but the ECB for a few years at reasonable interest rates.
The fact is that everyone knows that Greece needs to leave the Euro, and pronto. But the EU is still reacting with hurt pride at the very idea (the same pride that prevented them from calling the IMF until it was too late). I think events are going to force their hands -- the only way to save Greece now is to allow them to go back to the drachma and devalue the currency. But now that the infection has spread to Portugal and Spain, it's anybody's guess as to what the EU and ECB will do. Their credibility in the markets is shot; no one believes anything they say.

Read an article about why they're in trouble. The Constitution prevents firing gummint workers. They can retire in their 40s. Tax evasion is part of their national heritage. They have a gummint commission to manage a lake that dried up in the 30s.
Yup, read that. They're fucked and they're going to drag down all of Europe with them. They'd be better off using that bailout money to pay to go back to the drachma.

I can answer that. You stated that:
The men are lacking initiative in dating.
That's because they are afraid to "come out" so to speak, given the intimidation of the Left on campuses, and it's residual effect can last well into the late twenties. (I am assuming you are a student or were recently).

Don't talk politics or religion with men (or women, for that matter), nor should you talk money.
Be quiet and watch your prospective paramours for hints as to which way they roll in all three departments -- if it appears as though they are nothing at all like you, leave them (gracefully of course). Because, if you can't at least see eye to eye on politics, religion, and how a household should be managed, then you will likely never get along and your marriage will be miserable.
Staying quiet about it at least ensures a few charming nights out on the town and no cat/dog fights.

This 42-year-old guy no longer goes to dance-clubs or bars (gave up drinking a long while back). I discovered over time that women who hang out in bars to find mates are...well, the kind of women who hang out in bars. I do occasionally venture out to listen to live music, but I'd much rather do so in a concert venue or dedicated music club: you don't have drunk assholes talking over the music or yelling "Freebird!".
I play music for friends and family, and can sometimes be enticed up onto a stage. I go to festivals a lot, and have met some nice ladies there.
"Common interests" I think is where it's at, at least when you pass the urgently-hormonal stage of your life. If you're dating life takes place in the club-scene, you're dooming yourself to disappointment.
I've learned to look for some "danger signs" in women over the years. I tend to overlook small tats these days because so many women have them (though I'm still not at all a fan), but the more tats (or the more garish the tats) the more a turn-off. Ditto piercings. (My theory is that if you'll let a perfect stranger poke you with something in one social context, you're probably willing to let a stranger do the same in a different social context. And I have never, ever, ever been proven wrong in this.) Avoid women who dump their whole life story on you within five minutes of first meeting. Avoid heavy drinkers as if all the hounds of hell lurk behind them. Some single moms might as well wear a "All I'm Interested In Is Your Money" sign; they beam out avarice like heat off a radiator.

387 I'm old enough to have an almost legal drinking age kid, and young enough to have a 2 year old...and if my mindset was the same as it was in my twenties, my husband and I would probably be divorcing each other.
Fortunately, with age (and lack of options that come with age) comes a more patient and accepting attitude towards one's respective mate. Let's face it, we're both probably not going to find anything better than each other at this point -- there is no greener grass on the other side of the fence, all the kids ate it, and we'd break our necks trying to get to it in the first place...so best to stay content with what one has.
That's not to say I don't wish from time to time that I had the figure I used to have, and could dress up in those cute clothes and do shit from back in the day (only better, because now I know what it's all about better)...but let's be honest here, at a point it's over, acknowledge and move on. You can always daydream, but that's about it.

Ann Coulter spends too much time preening and fussing with her hair ...., that is, when she isn't running around and hanging pictures of herself on every website on the internet. Imagine what her apartment looks like. No paint. No wallpaper. Just mirrors everywhere. Can't imagine why she doesn't have a boyfriend or a husband. Can you imagine being in bed with her, and then she puts you on-hold, while she tosses her head and places her hair behind her ear? (Giving you that wry, alluring grin of hers.)

Saluki -- then have fun being a Harley babe while you're still at an age to be a Harley babe without risking becoming an "old lady".
aka: don't make the mistake some women make of wearing the string bikini, and getting the navel piercing and barbed wire tat at the tender age of 30 (or, shudder, 40); it's all about "am I really still young enough to be goofy" -- and once you're over 30, the answer is "no".
Monty -- remember: military tats are ok on chicks (at least that's what I tell myself to keep from crying to sleep), and I met my husband in a bar (in fact, we nearly got picked a bar fight with each other...the rest is history, but I guess that might have to do with similar interests and such).

393: I tried that once with a first-date in college, poly. She stared at me blankly, and then started to tell me about her ex-boyfriend back home in Alabama, and his new mail-order Russian bride.
I blame her idiocy on being an actual ginger, complete with freckles.
I blame my desire to figure out a way to get her to stop talking, yet still feign sufficient interest to get a chance to count all her freckles on unk.jane's prescient observation of boys under 25.
I failed on all fronts. She blabbed all night to the point that I could no longer mask my irritation with her. In a last-ditch effort, I took a bet that maybe she was one of those girls that winds up helplessly smitten with complete assholes. She wasn't. Second-worst date ever.

423 Yes it is -- 30 is the doorstep to becoming 40...and a little too late in the game to start thinking about getting an arm tat and a bellybutton ring (or buying string bikinis and rubber miniskirts/minidresses). If you already have said accoutrements and can still flaunt them for a few more years, then have a ball and you go...but you should not be thinking of acquiring for the first time by that age.
Moral of the story: sow the wild oats when you can reasonably get away with it

425 Didn't see it, and I wouldn't care if it was Demi in all her buffed up glory -- at some point one has to start acting one's age or risk being permanently ridiculous to oneself (it was hard, but necessary).
There's something to be said for women (and men) who enter their 30s and 40s and try to cultivate some of the dignity that is the charm of one's middle age; conversely, there is something incredibly sad about people who fight it every inch of the way...their old age will likely not be pretty.

I dated a cougar for several years in my 20's, had a blast, learned much and GF's after have reaped the benefits of that education. Never has instruction been so student friendly. Cougars serve a legitamate function in our society, maybe you ease up just a tad being judgemental.

Five minutes of Alpha beats five years of beta. Most women would rather have a five day affair with Charlie Sheen, even now, than be married to Jon Cryer.
You really don't know women. Maybe you know teen girls wearing grown-up-girl suits and having fantasies about Mr. Right (or at least Mr. Hawt & Powerful). But those are children.
Women want to give themselves and to receive. Women want all the hard work and tears and dirty faces and laughter that comes with a real flesh and blood man, the undulating rhythm that's so often more like a roller coaster ride after too much funnel cake. We want him with us every night, for the rest of our lives, even if all we do is lie together in the same bed most of the time w/o having sex because we're too exhausted from caring for our family. Those of us who needed longer to figure out we'd been lied to would give our Manolos & Jimmy Choos to marry such a man. And we're trusting that some of the men who gave up out of sheer frustration will join the conservative camp & ask us out for a drink.
