MV Rachel Corrie sails toward Gaza, plans to dock

GAZA (BNO NEWS) – A ship carrying aid to Gaza is still headed for the blockaded territory, despite Israeli warnings that it will not be allowed to dock, the Guardian reported on Friday.

The MV Rachel Corrie, which was part of the original Freedom Flotilla intercepted by the Israeli military, leaving nine activists dead, is due to arrived in Gaza at 8 a.m. local time on Saturday. Turkey noted on Friday that it would cut back its relations with Israel, and the Hamas leader said at Friday prayers in Gaza city that humanitarian aid alone would not be enough to aid the Palestinian cause

48 market mavens everywhere have tried to talk the market up but nothing works. Not only have the market internals broken down, but the hyped statist solutions aren't working and were never destined to work. We had anecdotes of what worked in the past and what didn't, but the intellectual arrogance of the left led them to believe that they were the ones who could finally take a proven failure of a socialist model and make it work. Instead of demonstrating their intellectual superiority they proved their inferiority because their new experiment failed immediately. And now, because they lack the humility to admit they are wrong and choose the model proven to work, they will take the rest of the country down with them. Obama will indeed go down in history not only as the first black president, but also the worst president in history. He may very well go down as the president that brought about the fall of the country.

62 nice timing! Cash seems safe for the moment. We're going to be in a deflationary mode for a year or so. Cash is king. The inflationary cycle won't start for another two or three years, but this should give enterprising Morons plenty of time to build up some hard assets to cushion the fall when it comes. Sooner or later, though, Helicopter Ben is going to have to start raising interest rates. They can't stay at zero forever.

Posted by: Hussein the Plumber at June 04, 2010 06:59 PM (r1h5M)

And because of all the race baiting and using the race card, Obama will probably be the last black president. American voters will not want to take a chance on worsening the racial divide that Obama has created. He's rolled the clock back 40 years. It's very unfortunate because we have some great black conservative politicians that would make excellent presidents.  Obama has probably destroyed their future opportunities.

76 Also, when the market does get a growth spurt, I don't want to miss out on the rallys because then I'll be kicking myself. As the 'rally' on Tuesday demonstrated, this market is basically fucked. No fundamentals, no signals, nothing you can do to plan ahead. Sovereigns are intervening in a massive way to prop up the Euro, which warps the entire market (especially commodities). But the efficacy of the interventions is getting shorter and shorter -- the bump is down to about 12 hours or so (maybe 8 or so now). I don't think we're going to be looking at much in the way of an up market this summer. The volatility will be high, and the only way you're going to make money is to use HFT -- in essence, turn into a day-trader. Value investing is as dead as the dodo. I'm not saying to draw your money out of your 401(k), but I am saying that everyone should start building up a hoard of cash -- at least or month or two of income, if you can manage it. That's the best way to defeat a deflationary envionrment. Then, when inflation starts to kick in, invest that cash in hard assets.

Posted by: Monty at June 04, 2010 03:08 PM (O3eFQ)

Posted by: conscious and supporting Israel at June 04, 2010 07:05 That's what a like about you: blind, unswerving optimism in the intellect of people who voted for Obama in droves. I honestly hope you're right, but millions of us thought that memories of Clinton would keep the dems out of power for at least two or three decades.

Obama is one of the most ignorant idiots ever to sit in the peoples house.
Today he criticized BP for paying their shareholders dividends.  The idiot doesn't understand that shareholders are the owners of the company, and if you want to collapse the common further than has transpired, just announce the elimination or reduction of dividends.  What an asshole.

Posted by: FireHorse at June 04, 2010 03:14 PM (cQyWA)

90 Why deflation? It's a problem of (mostly short-term) oversupply driving down prices. It won't last, but we'll be there for six months to a year. Retail and housing inventories are up, but people aren't buying. Prices are falling (look at the per-barrel price of oil, even after the Gulf spill).

93 Thank you, Firehorse. Good luck to you too. At some point soon, I'm going to have to go "all in" as they say, with the market. Can't just sit there doing nothing. I guess I tend to be more of an optimist. Even though I worry a ton.

Do you have a job, at least to help out with immediate costs?

I do not have a job currently, but I'm lucky in that I'm not hurting right now.  I've been trying to help family and others that aren't so fortunate.  I've gotten my monthly expenses down to about $500 on average without living like the Unabomber.

I have a chemistry background, so in recent years I was teaching high school.  I've been asked to resign twice because, get this, I failed too many kids.

97 Say, Monty, do you need someone to walk your dog? No, my wolfhounds get plenty of exercise running down the hobos and illegals who infest the countryside nearby. I do like to go out of an evening and engage in a bit of blood-sport. There is a certain je ne sais quois about gunning down a hobo and then coming home and relaxing to the strains of Bizet's Carmen. It's the little things in life that you truly cherish, I find.

98 Wow, ok, Gator, you obviously know what you're doing, and probably are going to be in much better shape than the rest of us. Maybe I should live down south. $500 in expenses each month, that's it??? Incredible.

101 My concern was always that he'd be known as America's last President, one way or another.  I kinda wish Bat Chain Puller had been right last year.

You realize that was part of a line Danny Glover made (being the last President ever) in the movie 2012?

I'm starting to wonder now if that movie will end up being prophetic after all.

102 I wash a mean car. Among my other talents. I have spoken with Hackett about re-opening the smaller of my guest houses as a sort of academy for financially-embarassed young ladies. Hackett advises me that the usual pimping, sodomy, and procuring laws do not apply if no actual money changes hands. (Interesting sidenote: I have several lovely pendants made of very fine gold and platinum that I will grant to each young lady upon completion of their course of study. As a gift.)

I'm from down here, so I wouldn't recommend unless you are aware of the cultural norms. It truly is the cheapest living I've ever seen, and I've been all over the place.  Don't tell anyone, though.  We want to keep the crazies out.

105 I know lots of people who voted for Prez for Life Hussein. Their current attitude? "The news is depressing, and I don't to be depressed, so I don't watch it any more." Yep, someone told me that almost word for word.

They will be sad  and confused when the market collapses and we go into bi-flation. They will end up living off of dumpster food.

106 Wait Gator, seriously, $500 a month??  That's how much I make off my blog now, and I always thought I'd need 6 times that amount at least to etch out a living on my own.

Where in the south do you live again?

108 109 - that's ok. I don't think a nice little Jewish girl like myself would fair too well in a small southern town. But I do love the South. Maybe just for visiting, though. Years ago, I would have given my right arm to live in New Orleans - just to be near all the good restaurants.

You got your own windmill or solar or somethin?

I kind of shunned the whole consumer thing a while back, stopped buying shit I didn't need or care about.  I put any extra into paying debt and having a good cushion to fall back on if anything weird happened....like a limpwristed communist getting elected President.

I just don't see this getting better.  Hope I'm wrong.

I won't lie to you, it is tough for those considered outsiders to fit in here.  It is a land filled with prejudice and hypocrisy, but that's just my family.    I never met a Jewish person until I moved to California, and I love you crazy Joooos.  Can you answer me this: why does everyone seem to hate you guys????

I live in the deep center of beautiful green Georgia.  It's definitely not for everyone.  I moved out when I was 18, but I'm back now because my mother is not long for this world.

Depends on where you are.  If you are in Southern California.....no, no I cannot.

That would be ethically wrong, and possibly illegal.

I certainly would not have a selection of pistols, rifles, and/or shotguns to lend-lease for a gold coin.

127 My manservant, Hackett, usually deals with the help. However, in this special circumstance, I shall make it a point to meet with you personally and discuss your duties.

If you are not too fatigued afterward (and are still able to walk), I will have you re-grout the tilework in the largest of my fifteen bathrooms. The platinum accents and gold fixtures are really let down by the grubby-looking grout. I will require you to sing "I Am The Very Model of a Modern Major General" while doing this, so please be sure to brush up on your Gilbert & Sullivan lyrics before arriving to work.

132 Liberals are absolutely, utterly and totally incapable of admitting they are wrong, or that they have ever made a mistake, ever.  If anything goes bad on their watch, it's either because someone else isn't holding up his end, or bad people (non-liberals) are actively trying to sabotage their efforts.
