Newsworthy? CNN doesn't think so. They think the headline is...
CNN Poll: Anti-incumbent fever at record high
Anti-incumbent? Well... yeah. But who are the incumbents? Which party controls the White House and the Congress?
CNN waits until the eleventh paragraph to report Obama's quite-bad re-elect number.
And they bury other big findings too, in favor of their "anti-incumbent, not anti-liberal or anti-Obama" Narrative of Choice.
For example: Paragraph Seven.
The poll suggests Americans are split when it comes to their vote this November, with 47 percent of registered voters saying they will support the Republican candidate in their district for the House of Representatives and 45 percent saying they will back the Democrat. Republicans trailed the Democrats by 6 points in November.
This sudden reversal of Democrat fortunes is merely an "anti-incumbent" animus?
And note CNN is polling adults, and their screen only narrows the sample to registered voters, the most Democratic-friendly pool of respondents. Even with this generous sample, Democrats (and Obama) are faring poorly.
Also not reported at all: Obama is now officially underwater in the CNN poll, though within the margin of error: 49% approve, 50% disapprove.
Bonus: Where Does This Cheerleading for Democrats Come From?
*** Bye, Bayh: If we told you that Democrats were favored to lose about eight Senate seats (six of which are in states Obama carried in '0, lose some 30 to 40 in the House, and see their top domestic issue -- health care -- stalled in Congress, youÂ’d guess that President ObamaÂ’s approval rating was, what, 35%? Maybe 40%? But as any close follower of American politics knows, ObamaÂ’s approval is at or near 50% (even at 53% in the always-volatile Gallup daily track). Yet Democrats, including what we saw and heard from Evan Bayh yesterday, are behaving like Obama is at 35%. This is particularly ironic when weÂ’re just a year-plus removed from a president whose approval was 25% to 30%. There is no doubt that this is a TOUGH political environment for Democrats, but are they making it tougher by running for the hills when things might not be as bad for them as was the GOPÂ’s situation from 2006-2008? And what does it say about the Democrats and their ability to govern when theyÂ’re acting like this when their president is at 50%? Republicans rallied around their president in '04, when he was hovering around 50%.
Obviously this is a stridently partisan paragraph, written with clear sympathies for the Democrats, offering fellow Democrats advice on how to govern and win elections.
So where would you guess it was from?
Kos?
FireDogLake?
Alec Badlwin writing in the Huffington Post?
Nope -- it's from MSNBC, which is apparently ditching the even the thinnest pretense of nonpartisanship.
Thanks for both to Slublog.

What the hell is a lede?
Do you mean "lead"? As in, the leading sentence or paragraph?
Enough with this stupid trendy non-word.
Next you'll be saying things like "meme."

The numbers on both questions are even lower than in 1994, when an anti-incumbent fever helped Republicans win back control of both the House and the Senate from Democrats.
"This is not a good year to be an incumbent, regardless of which
party you belong to," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.
"Voters seem equally angry at both Republicans and Democrats this
year."
-------------------
They just can't bring themselves to say it. When the Dems get their asses kicked in November the meme will be 'angry white males' just like in '94. Well, that and racism.
This election season reminds me of how I felt waiting for the Bush v. Gore case to get to the Supreme Court. I was infuriated at times along the way, but ultimately let things roll off my back because the final result was basically pre-ordained. This year, the MSM can - and will - flop, twist, spin, lie and manipulate voter sentiment any way they can against the GOP and in favor of the Dems, but they're going to take this one straight up the ass and it's pretty funny to watch knowing already how it's going to all turn out.

It's not that the people don't like the health care proposal, they just don't like the process.
It's not that the people oppose civilian trials for terrorists, they just don't want it in their backyard.
It's not that the people are confused by the nuance of the stimulus bill stabilization package, they juts don't have Sheriff Joe's website number.
Good grief Charlie Brown. These people do more spinning than Dead or Alive.

"In a report compiled last summer, the Race, Culture, Class and Gender Task Group at the U's College of Education and Human Development recommended that aspiring teachers there must repudiate the notion of "the American Dream" in order to obtain the recommendation for licensure required by the Minnesota Board of Teaching. Instead, teacher candidates must embrace -- and be prepared to teach our state's kids -- the task force's own vision of America as an oppressive hellhole: racist, sexist and homophobic."
"The first step toward "cultural competence," says the task group, is for future teachers to recognize -- and confess -- their own bigotry. Anyone familiar with the reeducation camps of China's Cultural Revolution will recognize the modus operandi."

I've also noticed this line quite frequently being used by these squealers; "You are entitled to your opinion, but not your facts." They then go on to lecture what the facts really are to whoever they are speaking.

That was my immediate thought as well. The internal polling must be 10-15 points lower than the official polls. I wonder how much of that padding is unintentional statistical distortion and how much is intentional. Given what we've seen of Obama's personality traits, I wonder if they're not padding his numbers to keep him from losing his mental stability. He reminds me of despots like Saddam Hussein: underlings would spin bad news away to keep him from freaking out too.

The incumbents are those who currently control the society's means of production and distribution. Everyone knows they're all Republicans.

What the right doesn't like about Obama and his Administration is that (1) their policies are anti-business, quasi-socialistic, money sinks that will incur FAR too much debt while not actually solving any of the problems to which they are directed, and (2) Obama and his minions (but especially Obama himself) are a bunch of dishonest, arrogant, douchebags that wear really thin in short order. I'm fairly open-minded, but I already don't believe a syllable that comes out of Obama's mouth. And obviously not the only one, since his support meant nothing in the Virginia, NJ and Mass. beatdowns the Dems just suffered.
And btw, while I'm replying to you, please note your question is, to borrow a commonly used term these days, simply retarded. What makes you think white males or anyone else angry at Obama and his Administration would base their decisions on race? Racism is almost exclusively an attribute of the left these days; in fact, I'd go so far as to say that a great many of the furthest left in our public debate (e.g., Matthews, Olberdouche and Maddow) are either absolutely obsessed with race or else using the issue for only what they see as a wedge effect. Since the vast majority of the right could care less about race, however, and since the Independents are (IMO) concluding that the left's claims of racism are nothing more than partisan game-playing, it's failing as a wedge issue and the Dems are losing everywhere. This will continue in November because Obama is unbelievably arrogant and lives in such a cocoon of sychophancy that no one around him either recognizes or wants to tell him the truth, which is that he sucks at his job and people just don't like him anymore.

65 >>>It's spelled "lede" to distinguish it from "lead" (as in the metal). Back in the day, hot lead was used to print papers.
That's a myth. It's spelled "lede" because printing presses had a spacer that determined margins called a lead, and they didn't want to confuse the two.
I totally made that up.

Posted by: LameSM at February 16, 2010 12:58 PM (ujg0T)
The Democrats are probably closer to the truth here. That 35% reflects an HONEST answer to a polling question with no WHITE GUILT affect.
There are a lot of people who won't say they DISLIKE the president because they don't want to be seen as RACIST! (Note: RACIST! is a trademark of the Democratic Party - and will be featured prominently in the 2012 presidential race when polls indicate The One will NOT be getting a second term).
