Comic-Con Geeks Razz Fred Phelps' Freaks
— Ace

Pretty funny:

Via Gabriel Malor.

Cute Vid: A porcupine that thinks it's a puppy.

It's helping me chill from my bad touchy-touchy mood.

Thanks to rdbrewer.

Not As Cute: A local station gave air time to all candidates for Governor.

Well, some of those candidates are unpolished. Maybe more aspirational than genuine.

He's sort of like Alvin Greene, except white, and Republican, and also, not actually our official candidate.

Also thanks to rdbrewer.

56 Democratic Rep. Charlie Rangel filed improper financial disclosure reports and used his House position for personal financial gain. The move signals that the investigation of Rangel, the veteran New York lawmaker, raised enough questions about his conduct that the committee staff believes he violated House rules. In 2008, Rangel, 80, asked the committee to investigate him after numerous media reports raised questions about the congressman's tax filings. Until this year, Rangel was the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, the panel that writes tax law.   think He will recieve a reprimand or a raise?

60 "Specifically, one of the allegations against Rangel is that he was guilty of: "Preservation of a tax shelter for an oil drilling company, Nabors Industries, which has a chief executive who donated money to the center while Rangel's committee considered the loophole legislation." It appears offshore drilling is not just a republican provenance. If NBR is about to be exposed for a kickback scheme with one of the (allegedly) most "ethically violated" politicians, one wonders just what a detailed investigation into any very probable comparable corruption schemes by BP, DO, HAL, APC and others would reveal and just how far the trail of Corexit-laden corruption would lead."

Well when they showed up here in SC we got to see. They did not get to actually go to the cemetery for their "protest" and along the highway where they did their march they had police protection.

In the above photo you can see the front wheel of a motorcycle. That is most likely a cop there to make sure the Phelps crowd doesn't get their asses handed to them.

" You know, it's easy for a commenter to suggest that I do this. "

who is this supposed to alienate? as a hoster, if you aren't specific it can seem blanket. Ouch! (cause of respect for your opinionduh)

I have uber respect for you, no clue how old you are, a trait i tend to gravitate to, and think you are much more than a great writer. I, now (~ few months), always read your posts. I suspect you have gargantuan following. But with power comes responsibility. this is not my idea.

"When I tell you that Sotomayor is a lock to pass because I know she can count on Lindsay Graham and that means no filibuster, you're like mad at ME for telling that this is the reality of the thing. "

if you have no power then we all have even less. hope is not bad in and of itself, do we have any (ie do we see fruits of our efforts other than B_llshit pols)

"Fight with reality, not me. If you want to believe we can change these things just by being angry and intense enough online, you need to rethink how your world works."

I agree, pounding the keyboard has limited purpose. But the interwebs can be used for other ends. If you were to drop a number, how many calls would that generate? (eg IP) when does that start to happen? before or after we things get really scary?

and sO, moving on, how do will kill the mfm, msnbc comm lines? ahem

- "emp, what do you suggest? What the fuck do any of you ranters suggest?" . . . But I keep hearing from the supposed fans of the Founding Fathers that this is pussy shit."

- * maybe the question is just how hot the water feels, and, mor importantly, the rate of heat flux? or, maybe, less likely, how 'comfortable'** one is though I doubt that is it.

- "Well, I keep hearing I'm insufficiently ANGRY about the state of our country, so here is me attempting to rise to that level of AUTHENTICITY-PROVING ANGER I'm told is necessary."

here is where i say that, since I don't put my ass on the line and run an internationally acclaimed blog, i bow, and step back. what you have created , no money can buy.

PS idpnt think anyone cares about nor maybe seen the tapes nearly as much as the junkies.

"I cannot think of a more revolting or totalitarian slogan and I reject this in every manner possible.

THIS IS PRECISELY MY PROBLEM. NO FUCKING TOTALITARIAN THOUGHT-MANAGEMENT EVER>"

;look this is all silly. If 90% of what 0 has signed is not stricken its over anyway. its just a matter of time. (if you think there is an open dialog you are gravely mistaken - our only print paper is WSJ - they have ALLL the rest)

THE LEFT IS INFINITELY BETTER AT PLANTING SEEDS. HELLOl,. (emotion cometh before reason)

leave with a truth: "A cornered animal is vicious."

they do not know what they hath wrought. no effing clue.

actually leave with this: its not about us, but what we will leave behind. mucho bigger than ourselves.

no with this: grmsty may represent SC but do I not pay his salary? something wrong with that maybe?

no with this: someone mentioned something about a million man march on washington. I dont see why not(**). maybe we can mosey on over to 1600 and give a piece of our mind; being as they are so fishbowled.

also: the right seems to want to learn and see a moral from this (admirable). the left does not. boo hoo. know this.

78 To folks freaking out about Ace freaking out:

He does this every now and then.  He's still the same and this isn't a fundamental change at all.  In a few months, he'll get annoyed again that his commenters expected something different from him.

If you only read people you agree with, you're boring.  I prefer this Ace who will honesty argue till he's blue in the face, even with arguments that seem to me to be terrible and wrong.  At least he's sincere.  His agitation and exasperation are sincere, and I'm pretty sure he'll get kinda tired of blogging and reduce his tempo, then come back with excellent work, and then some big argument will erupt.  It's happened all the time and I honestly don't think it's significant.

Sherrod is talking about suing Breitbart.  A lot of people think she shouldn't be condemned even though if Romney or Palin said 'I went into politics to help whites and ONLY whites', no amount of apologizing or token kindness to minorities would ever make up for it.  She's a really trashy awful person who was reflected very accurately in both the short and long tapes, which aren't substantially different (both show someone struggling with the tension between class and race warfare... no good person has to worry about the race warfare part at all).

But Ace is either being pragmatic or just wants to forgive her because of her really pitiful experience with white racists.  Who cares?  This isn't that big of an issue and it's probably for the best that the right has a lot of different views.

I remember kinda feeling like "do not read this embibtion",  albeit less dramatic, the first time I saw one of these ugly and drawn out arguments.  In the long run, I think it makes the blog a more interesting experience.

79 But Ace is either being pragmatic or just wants to forgive her because of her really pitiful experience with white racists.

I don't think that was the big problem with Ace at all. It appeared to me the problem was people wanted to defend the tape which was incomplete AND they attacked him in a personal manner when they did it.

Why did it appear this way to me? because he said it over and over and he is entirely correct. We have too many people on here who are very fast to go into personal attacks and flame war over a difference of opinion.

Deep in the bowels of Donk (DOdd-fraNK Financial abomination bill, whose 2315 pages nobody has read in their entirety), in Title XII: IMPROVING ACCESS TO MAINSTREAM FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS, section 1205 is a provision titled "Low-cost alternatives to payday loans" in which the government outlines its plans for establishing what is essentially a payday loan advance business.

Evidently there is nothing that the federal government can not do. Section 1 of the Constitution must have been severely rewritten since the 1800s.

87 Some good news....a drop, but whatever....

BELL, Calif.-- Three administrators whose huge salaries sparked outrage in this small blue-collar suburb of Los Angeles have agreed to resign, the City Council said Friday.

Council members emerged from an hours-long closed session at midnight Friday and announced that they'd accepted the resignations of Chief Administrative Officer Robert Rizzo, Assistant City Manager Angela Spaccia and Police Chief Randy Adams.

Rizzo was the highest paid at $787,637 a year -- nearly twice the pay of President Barack Obama -- for overseeing one of the poorest towns in Los Angeles County.

Spaccia makes $376,288 a year and Adams earns $457,000, 50 percent more than Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck.

The three will not receive severance packages, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday. Rizzo will step down at the end of August and Spaccia will leave at the end of September. Adams will also leave at the end of August, after completing an evaluation of the police department, the Times said.

Actually there is already a law that is supposed to do that. It was a requirement of that crappy Motor Voter bill. Too bad it has never been enforced. That bill was just like the first Kennedy amnesty bill that had amnesty and border enforcement so that we wouldn't get another pile of illegals. The border enforcement part was ignored.

The Dems have always been good about adding stuff to a bill to appease Repubs so they can say "see we will compromise".  But once the bill is passed the only part that gets used is the socialist part.

98 Dr. Kill,

Luckily all we have to do is deploy Hugo Chavez jr down to the shoreline and have him talk at length about how a democrat appointee of his got bamboozled into acting stupidly and that he, Jugears is to be commended for talking her into taking the job and the hired help is part of the conspiracy.....

the vortex generated will blow Bonnie back into Cuba and NOLA will be saved

93 Unlike Mr. Greene, Mr Marceaux has ads, a website, fund raising and makes appearances. He expects Republicans to want to know the candidate and their views. Which is why I predict he will lose, but I give him credit for trying. Mr. Greene, on the other hand, secure in his knowledge that Democrats are ignorant and lazy; brilliantly hid form the electorate and used the cagey strategy of being the first name (and complete unknown) on the ballot to propel him to victory. I personally think other Dems will follow in Mr. Greene's formidable footsteps.

One thing I did learn yesterday, I can remove all the bottle caps from the bin down at the local BP station and go down to Columbia and use them to get a degree in Poly-Sci from USC.

Wow.. didn't realize inflation had gotten that bad.  My degree in Poly-Sci from USC only cost me a dozen bottle caps and a couple of aggies I had lying around.

I figured why settle for a bachelors though, and tossed in an Arlo Brunsberg
rookie card so I could get the PHD instead.

Well they usually protest at funerals, the filth - and as a result most of the folks that show up in opposition are mindful of the fact that it is a funeral and are trying to avoid making things any tougher on the greiving family.  There not there to cause a scene, or disrupt the family, they just want to sheild them from these Westboro retards as best they can.

Last time they were here in Omaha, not long ago in fact, for the funeral of Edwin Wood, our local radio station KFAB put out the word and by the time the 10 or so of these vermin arrived to start their protest the streets around the funeral home were lined on both sides with people holding American flags - for over 7 city blocks.

The protesters couldn't get anywhere near the family or the funeral because there was not a single inch of public property that wasn't already occupied by someone with an American flag in their hands.

When the protesters did get there they were so far away that the family couldn't even hear them, and just to increase their degree of difficulty everytime they tried to start a chant either one of the bikers or one of the guys who and brought in several of the large semi trucks there and parked them specifically so the family would not even see these idiots would start revving their engines so even those of us who were less than 50 yards away couldn't hear a word of what they were saying.

Have to admit the Phelps people inspire me to have serious doubts about the First Amendment sometimes. Could it be that the Founders based their ideas on the premise that the USA would be a land of reasonable people?

The Phelps gang would be abhorrent if they reserved their antics for protesting against communists, real racists and other haters and/or destructive influences.

Fire hoses. Police dogs. Tear gas. Tar Feathers. That is all.

Charlie Rangle to Luke Russert who had the audacity to ask if he paid taxes on his Caribbean property "that doesn't sound like NBC asking stupid question."

Wow.. I guess journolist going down is already having an effect.  Looks like the NBC reporters are getting a little confused about what questions they should and shouldn't ask.

My goodness if these keeps up somebody over at NBC, ABC or CBS, or even CNN might actually commit an act of journalism, even if it is by accident.

Hopefully they'll get a handle on this soon!

The first amendment simply means the government can not censor their speech ahead of time.

It doesn't mean that an offended citizen can not kick the crap out of them.  Of course that falls under a different law though.

Well, keep in mind that the First Amendment was adopted in 1791.  At the time dueling was still both legal and fashionable.  It really didn't start going out of fashion until the Civil War.

So even though you had every right to speak your piece under the First Amendment, that was always tempered with the notion that if you got a little too froggy somebody might just call you out, and put a bullet in you for your trouble.

Once.  Worked a better than unisom, I was out in less than 5 minutes.  Was pretty excited, thought it was a great insomnia cure, till I realized I was talking in rhymes and using a very bizarre cadence for the next two days.

So I went back to the unisom.  Oh well, looked pretty promsing there at first.

One of the joys of my former life in L.A. was listening to a radio team called Conway and Steckler. When they went off the air, I should have known my days in SoCal were numbered....

One of the high points was a call-in contest called "What the Hell Did Jesse Jackson Say?" They would play a Jackson clip and listeners competed to translate it into English.

More often than not, no one could decipher Jesse's mutterings.

There were times when I had to pull off the road because I was laughing too hard to drive.

Very true.. When Congressmen John Randolph (VI-DR) refused to meet General James Wilkinson in a duel, Wilkinson apparently called him, among other things, a "calumniating scoundrel" as well as a "poultroon".
