3 Thanks for that Ace.  Only a truely dark heart wouldn't be touched by that video, especially at the sound of the children's joy as they see their fathers again.

Posted by: Kratos (missing from the side of Mt Olympus) at May 21, 2010 11:02 AM (9hSKh)

4 If that doesn't make you cry, you have no soul.

Posted by: CLP at May 21, 2010 11:03 AM (jw/wu)

5 Dammit.  Made me cry.  Beautiful.  (What, no welcoming kittehs?)

Posted by: Jane D'oh at May 21, 2010 11:03 AM (UOM48)

6 4 If that doesn't make you cry, you have no soul.

I don't have a soul, being a ginger and all, but I still have a heart...at least a partial one.

And I teared up a bit.

Posted by: Kratos (missing from the side of Mt Olympus) at May 21, 2010 11:04 AM (9hSKh)

7 Crap.  Crying at work totally ruins my carefully crafted evil bitch front.

Posted by: bebe's boobs destroy at May 21, 2010 11:04 AM (cniXs)

8 Shit ace. I'm at work. You're not helping me out here. I'd rather get caught looking at boobs than seen blubbering like a little girl at my desk. Like that first girl. Reminds me of mine. That one destroys me every time I see it.

Posted by: mr.frakypants at May 21, 2010 11:05 AM (zOP98)

9 I guess we all needed a good cry....

Makes you realize that all the sacrifices aren't just made by the service member but by the littlest of Americans too....

Posted by: curious at May 21, 2010 11:05 AM (p302b)

10 Damn, that's beautiful.

Posted by: huerfano at May 21, 2010 11:06 AM (Updet)

11

Tears are the only appropriate response while viewing that, Ace. Good tears.

I also can't help remembering the others who didn't come home, and I pray for some sort of peace and happiness for their families.

6. I don't have a soul, being a ginger and all,

13 No..butthead..I'm not crying. I got something in my eyes..I swear

Posted by: beedubya at May 21, 2010 11:07 AM (AnTyA)

14 See?!?  I TOLD you our troops were terrorizing children!   The tears of that little girl tell the whole story.

Posted by: John F. Kerry (I still have the hat) at May 21, 2010 11:07 AM (7AOgy)

15 Dammit, my eyes are leaking.

Posted by: mesablue at May 21, 2010 11:07 AM (ymiht)

16 Why are my eyes leaking?

Posted by: Dr. Spank at May 21, 2010 11:09 AM (sGwNK)

17 Great, just what I needed, my damn allergies are acting up again or something.

Thanks for the reminder of what is really important Ace.

18 Thanks mesa

Posted by: Dr. Spank at May 21, 2010 11:09 AM (sGwNK)

19 That's the same kind of greeting my dog gave me when I came back from 'Nam.  Seriously.

Posted by: Blumenthal, reporting for duty at May 21, 2010 11:09 AM (UOM48)

20 "are you crying?"   come over here and watch this?  "so who's crying now?"....the whole place is balling....

21 Oh my God. Kills me. In the best possible way.

Posted by: TheJane at May 21, 2010 11:12 AM (9TxlI)

22 Reminds me of what a friend of mine did to his parents when he got home on leave.  He told them he was going to London for his leave and make up all sorts of background stuff to help (including a fake email confirming his ticket purchase) then he had me pick him up at the airport and drive him to his parents while he talked to them on the phone as if he was at an airport.  You could here his mother scream outside of the house when he rang the doorbell.

Good stuff, Ace.

24 thank God it's fashionable again to support the military and love the troops...

Interesting how they seem to draw you into remembering the ones who didn't come home and your appreciation for their ultimate sacrifice and the ultimate sacrifice of their families...

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to anyone who has served my country and made me be able to enjoy the freedoms you folks fought for....

27 All old, but I still get the same reaction in my eyes every time.

What, no welcoming kittehs?

There will NEVER be a welcoming kitteh.  The best you'll get is one eye open from the nap, and a sigh that says "I am NOT sharing my food with this stranger".

Posted by: CUS at May 21, 2010 11:15 AM (wOGfT)

28 Wonerful video, Ace.  I'm crying like a baby.

Posted by: grognard at May 21, 2010 11:22 AM (hX04F)

56

No offense to those with spouses or even children overseas at war, but there is nothing to compare with the overwhelming wave of emotion at seeing a Father, still in Uniform, walking towards you, and home, for the first time in many, many months.

FWIW, I was 10, and it was at Oakland Airport in 1968.  Every time I see one of these clips, I see myself. Yes, I cry, to this day.

May God Bless each child of a servicemember.

62 Thanks for the video Ace. Thanks for your service vets and active. And I'm positive I have no soul (sold it for plate of BBQ in 1980), but I was crying like a little boy who just slipped off the front of his bike seat.

63 This reminds me of when I came home from Nam.

Posted by: Dick Blumenthal at May 21, 2010 12:44 PM (6lRYQ)

64 That one should be labeled NSFW. It's just impossible not to tear up, and yet I love those videos and the joy their loved ones feel in them. It's a shame no one's turned that into a reality show, helping the soldiers set up the surprises so that no one sees it coming and then giving the families some kind of vacation at the end of the show.
