I'd laugh and laugh if the Colts got beat, but it's unlikely that the Jets will another game on the road.

And today will be the day we see the Brett Favre we all know and love...throwing picks and running for no gain.

Posted by: This is lolboner at January 24, 2010 06:56 AM (z37MR)

3 In each game the teams with the most points when the clocks run out will be the winners. I'm sticking to this one.

4 What the heck, Jets and Saints.

5 I'm going with Indianapolis and the Saints.

Isn't the final outcome of football games, most times, the opposite of DiT's predictions, or is that another co-blogger?

Regardless, I'll buck the trend set here and say it'll be the Jets and the Vikings.

Please don't let it be Colt v Vikings. Can you imagine two weeks of Manning versus Favre commentary.

Colts and Saints.

7 Since my Packers are out, I hope the Jets smack Peyton Bobblehead and Ye Old Mediawhore gets lit up by the Saints defense.

Posted by: Triple Zero at January 24, 2010 06:59 AM (kjPnf)

8 Here's hoping the Saints win. Not that I have anything against the Vikings or anything like that. I just dread the All-Favre-All-The-Time pre-game if the Vikings win.

And the Colts for the win, but it's more "not Jersey B" than "Go Colts!"

Having run the Pick'em league, I can vouch for Dave, he isn't very good at this.

However, I am just as bad as I think the same two teams will win. Regardless of who wins I want the NFC team to get the superbowl victory.

21 I'm pulling for the Vikes / Jets.  That'll greatly increase the odds of the Vikes winning it all...!  SKOL VIKINGS!

24 The NFL Channel replayed Superbowl III yesterday.  I had forgotten how good Namath was.  I do hold his playing college football at Alabama against him.

If the Vikings make it to the Superbowl, they will lose their fifth appearance, thus earning their place as an example of . . . something.

Think of the Colts as an NFC team - they were moved to the AFC when the AFL and NFL merged.

28
If the Vikings win today...
what's the longest span of years for a QB to make a return to the Super Bowl?

hmmm, Elway was in a couple of SBs early in his career, and then again late in his career.

brb...

Colts and the Saints, and Drew Brees (he's a witch you know) will finally get his props.

30 I would like to see the Favres v. the Mexican Maulers, I expect to see Baltimore v. Katrina.

Posted by: The Dread Pirate Neck Beard at January 24, 2010 07:41 AM (oLjbH)

31 Please no Saints, can't stand the thought of two weeks of katrina bullshit and how the team is helping the city recover blah blah blah.....

32
John Elway was in Super Bowls 21, 22, 24, and then won Super Bowls 32 & 33. So Elway waited 8 years in between SB appearances.

Kurt Warner was in Super Bowls 34, 36, and then again in SB 43, which gives Warner a 7-year break from SB appearances.

Brett Favre was in Super Bowls 31 & 32.
If the Vikings win today, it will be 12 years since Favre was in a Super Bowl.

Wow.

Posted by: This is lolboner at January 24, 2010 07:50 AM (z37MR)

33
No way Koopy, if they talk about how NOLA has bounced back since Katrina because of Chocolate Jesus being elected, maybe all the trash that stayed here will finally go back.  Our crime rate would drop 5%.

34 @28 I still think of the Colts as a Baltimore team. The Baltimore Colts of Indianapolis.

38 I don't want the Saints in the SB. I'm an NFC fan but the Saints are the one team I always couldn't stand. I don't want Favre to win the SB though. So I am routing for the Jets and Vikings and to have the Jets crush Favre in the SB.But I would be just as happy if the Colts did it.

it was funny when Johnny Unitas told Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis

Think of the Colts as an NFC team - they were moved to the AFC when the AFL and NFL merged.

Nope, can't do it.  They were AFC when they beat my beloved Cowboys in 1971 and they are AFC now.  F'ing Jim O'Brien.

45 #40 That was a league decision. (The NFL has a uniform code.) Manning wanted to wear a pair of black high top cleats, not actual shoes once belonging to Unitas.  However, Unitas severed all ties to the Colts when they moved to Indianapolis.

Posted by: Pelayo at January 24, 2010 08:23 AM (8NGHm)

Posted by: Jefferson Davis at January 24, 2010 08:33 AM (2+9Yx)

55 #50 It was because of Unitas' anger over the Colt's move to Indianapolis.  However, it was the NFL who finally denied Manning's request.  If the Colts were still in Baltimore, I think Manning would have been allowed to wear the black hightops.

Posted by: Pelayo at January 24, 2010 08:35 AM (8NGHm)

I'm kind of sick of hearing about the Jets' DB Revis and how he's an island and basically ends up shutting down the passing game with how good he is against a team's  No. 1 receiver.  A fat lot of good that should do them against the Colts when their TE is almost as good as their No. 1.

Oh and here are some cheerleaders.

123 Remember four weeks ago when I told y'all it was absofuckinglutely stupid to throw a game, because telling your team you prefer to lose than to play football would lead to them playing like losers in the playoffs?

I was right.

Walter?  Maybe.  Indy ain't playing the Texans today, though.  Peyton might have some issues doing that.

Ding ding.  Yup.  Bury them.  Never drop a game, never go for the easy three when you're up by 24.

Posted by: The Dread Pirate Neck Beard at January 24, 2010 12:22 PM (OJtOT)

126 Still only a two possession game, although i doubt Indy would go for two if they got a TD.

Posted by: koopy at January 24, 2010 12:22 PM (XllG0)

127 If the Jets D can start getting to Peyton they will pull this off.

Posted by: scottw at January 24, 2010 12:26 PM (L6wvB)

128 Nice pass, keep it close.

Posted by: The Dread Pirate Neck Beard at January 24, 2010 12:27 PM (9eVTm)

129
Or they can blow a bunch of coverages and give up a cheap 6.

Posted by: Dang Straights at January 24, 2010 12:28 PM (lhexs)

130 Oh, go for two, you purse-carryin' fruitcakes.

Posted by: The Dread Pirate Neck Beard at January 24, 2010 12:28 PM (9eVTm)

131 I was right, why wouldn't you try for two there? You're gonna have to get a TD whether you're down 4 or 5, just go for two.

Posted by: koopy at January 24, 2010 12:29 PM (XllG0)

I think Manning has actually done exactly that at least once before.  Let's face it, unless New York is up by 2 scores with less than a minute left in the game the Colts are not out of it.

Texans had Indy down by 17 I think and Peyton threw 3 touches in the last 7 minutes or something like that.  It was sick.  I laughed at Oilerfan.

134 First break Indy's had all day

Posted by: koopy at January 24, 2010 12:53 PM (XllG0)

135 good Lord, tis the year of the missed field goal

Posted by: The Dread Pirate Neck Beard at January 24, 2010 12:54 PM (IyVeY)

136 Jets:  Well, we're winnin', so we don't need to play any more defense, do we?
Colts:  Fine with us.

Posted by: The Dread Pirate Neck Beard at January 24, 2010 12:59 PM (IyVeY)

137 Course, if they had gone for two, it would now be Indy by four and a two possession game, but nooooooo.......

Posted by: koopy at January 24, 2010 01:05 PM (XllG0)

138
Ohh, that was a bullshit penalty right there.  Completely the wrong way.

Posted by: Dang Straights at January 24, 2010 01:08 PM (lhexs)

139 Oops, four points isn't a two possession game, that was the beer doing the math

Posted by: koopy at January 24, 2010 01:10 PM (XllG0)

140 Just call it a 1.5 possession game and have another drink.

Posted by: The Dread Pirate Neck Beard at January 24, 2010 01:13 PM (IyVeY)

141 Oof.  I really have a lot of doubt in Sanchez's "come from behind" abilities.  Then again, he does play in NJ.

Posted by: The Dread Pirate Neck Beard at January 24, 2010 01:16 PM (IyVeY)

142 Somebody put me some knowledge, please. What is that chicken f- ing in the left side of the CBS Hollywood Squares graphic thingy when they go to a break?

Posted by: Vie at January 24, 2010 01:17 PM (iDgCG)

143 Finally knocked him on his butt.

Posted by: scottw at January 24, 2010 01:17 PM (L6wvB)

144 Yes, put Payton on the turf every play and he will do your bidding.

145 What is that chicken f- ing in the left side of the CBS Hollywood Squares graphic thingy when they go to a break?

Heh, i'm pretty sure that's supposed to be beer can chicken, where you cook a chicken on a beer can. But yeah, i thought the same thing, looks like a chicken fucking a beer can since they made it dance.

Posted by: koopy at January 24, 2010 01:30 PM (XllG0)

146 Hey, looks like the Colts have this one.  It will give Manning another couple of weeks to dislodge that brazil nut he snorted.

Posted by: barbelle at January 24, 2010 01:37 PM (qF8q3)

147 He, Ed Morrisey had colts over the jets 27-17 . . . he's not a ref in Indy by any chance, is he?

Posted by: The Dread Pirate Neck Beard at January 24, 2010 01:39 PM (IyVeY)

148 Colts defense: demonstrating that you only have to play two quarters to win a game.

Posted by: The Dread Pirate Neck Beard at January 24, 2010 01:42 PM (IyVeY)

149

he's not a ref in Indy by any chance, is he?

Bad calls happen every game, but that late hit on Sanchez was pretty obviously "missed."

Oh, I'm not griping about the bad calls, it's just that he might want to start trying to keep Indy from scoring again if he wants to cement his reputation as a prophet.

Posted by: The Dread Pirate Neck Beard at January 24, 2010 01:44 PM (IyVeY)

151 Well, Ed, looks like you were off by at least 7 . . .

Posted by: The Dread Pirate Neck Beard at January 24, 2010 01:48 PM (IyVeY)

152 A defensive touchdown would be really cool right about now.

157 Dynasties are good if my team is the dynasty.

Posted by: Ronster at January 24, 2010 02:17 PM (Z1Tmd)

158 Simms can be annoying but I will take him over Chris "let me tell you what" Collinsworth any day of the week.

159 i"m proud of my jets.  It's amazing that they were even in this game this year.  And it means next year we don't have a "rookie quarterback".

I want the ego maniac to go out a loser.  Have him lose.  And let the Vikings go through all his Diva offseason crap.  Let him come back next year and hope they completely choke all season.  Watch his interception record continue to climb, and just completely self destruct.

Eat shit packersfan.  That's the only good thing about Favruh reunreunreunreunreunretiring again.

163 My "admitted rabid jet fan friend" says that  "If the jets were to get another defensive back like Darrell Revis, he completely neutered the guy he was covering today, then they would be in great shape".

165 I'm happy for the Jets great showing this year, but ultimately I'm pleased the Colts won.  They're the better team and have the best chance to beat the Vikings should the unthinkable happen and the Saints lose this afternoon.

Nah, it's not that.  It's just that the Jets have been underdogs doormats for so long and they made a good move in switching to Ryan.  It's nice to see some competition in the Patriots' back yard.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a very warm and loving human being, but I'm drunk right now and there's not much else to be sarcastic about, what with Obama's smartest ever going so far over the top . . . I mean, what bad can you say about them that isn't just kinda sad and extremely true?

I'm impressed that he got his shit together after a few really bad games and talk of his struggles. In the big games, he's played great.

I love his arm and mobility, and his confidence. This is a young team, not a collection of free agents signed for that one big push.

Posted by: kbdabear at January 24, 2010 03:09 PM (sYxEE)

174 Are the Saints playing against Minnesota, or are they playing against the Saints defense? We just hand over 30 yards in penalties. Our defense looks like they're playing in some regular, middle-of-the-season game instead of THE BIGGEST game in our history. I'm disgusted!!!!
