— Ace I didn't even see this one when I posted the other one. So here's more science.
A study at University College London in the UK has found that conservatives' brains have larger amygdalas than the brains of liberals. Amygdalas are responsible for fear and other "primitive" emotions. At the same time, conservatives' brains were also found to have a smaller anterior cingulate -- the part of the brain responsible for courage and optimism. If the study is confirmed, it could give us the first medical explanation for why conservatives tend to be more receptive to threats of terrorism, for example, than liberals. And it may help to explain why conservatives like to plan based on the worst-case scenario, while liberals tend towards rosier outlooks.
Note how that last bit is put -- conservatives plan responsibly for the future, whereas liberals live for the moment and wind up living on others -- the ant and the grasshopper-- but rather than put it that way, they say that conservatives fear "worst-case scenarios" and liberals, eternal optimists, "tend towards rosier outlooks."
Oh, that stuff about "courage"? Um, yeah. Ask the troops.
Oh but I'm sure they are defining "courage" differently -- by "courage," they mean, in all likelihood, a willingness to sample other cultures. Not physical courage, of course.
Because, seriously? Yeah.
I Called It: This isn't 100% proof, but when I said they were probably using the word "courage" in the non-definitional manner of meaning "openness to new ideas"?
Yeah, based on this, I'm thinking that's the meaning of "courage" to a liberal.
The results, which will be published next year, back up a study that showed that some people were born with a "Liberal Gene" that makes people more likely to seek out less conventional political views. The gene, a neurotransmitter in the brain called DRD4, could even be stimulated by the novelty value of radical opinions, claimed the researchers at the University of California.
If you're keeping track, socialism is now a 160 year old novelty of an idea.

Which attributes to "worst case planning" If you plan for the worst and the best happens, no harm done. If you plan for the best and the worst happens, well you are likely to be afraid (cautious) of the possibility of worst case scenarios in the future.

anterior cingulate
I see nothing in the Wiki write up to suggest that it has anything to do with "courage" which I define as the ability to act despite fear of consequences. At best it may be described as a major regulator of "self confidence". Liberals full of "I think me can do anything"? That might be news somewhere.
But after all, if the headline says.
Conservatives more likely to be cautious when experience dictates situational risks.
Liberals more likely to believe they can accomplish anything regardless of situation or actual qualification.
Just doesn't sell the narrative.

"The report finds that senior officials under former British Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown quietly and repeatedly pressured Scottish authorities to release Abdel Baset Ali al-Megrahi, the former Libyan intelligence officer convicted of the bombing.
They did so in order to protect British business interests in Libya,
including a $900 million BP oil deal that the Libyans had threatened to
cut off, as well as a $165 million arms sale with a British defense firm
that was signed the same month al-Megrahi was freed from prison, the
report states. "

The first two patients died right there in the room because it was done incorrectly. So a third patient hopped up on the table and said "I'm next." The reluctant doctor proceeded after much prodding, and the third patient died too.
Autopsies showed that, indeed, the first two patients died from embolisms but for the third patient they could find nothing wrong. Heinlein contended that the third patient died of fright.
Fear, and courage.

In general the larger a city you live in the larger, but shallower is your circle of friends and acquaintances.
Personally I bet this is a neural resource issue. You can know and care about some people a lot, or know and care about a lot of people only somewhat. This is politicians are often described as semi-sociopaths by close acquaintances. You try keeping track of thousands of key political players whose support you need and see how much time and mental energy you have left to bond with friends and family and learn details of their life.
The human brain has some serious limitations. And we all have to make choices on how to spend our limited resources.

Consider me a coward.
Well the issue is two pronged. What they refer to as "fear" that conservatives have is really "learned fear" that exists due to experience of a similar situation.
What they refer to as "Courage" has nothing to do with the fortitude to continue a course of action despite knowledge of likely negative consequence, and is really the just belief that one can succeed, or self confidence.
Lets go with an example.
Take it in a gun fight. Say I have quick draw champion and who finds himself in a real gun battle with a duffer. Now if that champion knows that he can put 3 shots into the head of Mr. Duffer before Duffer can clear leather, is Champion brave or courageous in doing so? Hardly. Self confidence is different than bravery or courage.
Now lets say that Duffer is ultra-pelosi grade liberal. He is just teaming with self confidence and believes he can win. Is he being brave by taking on Champion? No. No courage is required if one believes they can succeed. And the rational person would say the failure to identify when one is unlikely to win, especially when dire consequences are involved, is stupidity not bravery.
On the other hand if Duffer is conservative. He is more likely to believe that he will lose and will get shot and is likely to be very afraid of it. If he is still standing there, what can we conclude? First his reason for being there must be very serious, second, he is one brave SOB.
So here we can see where the weapons grade stupid "I'm on track to keep my speakership" comes from. Along with the sincere belief that Obama care would help them in the polls not hurt. It's not bravery. It's a lack of the better sense to be scared.
The reality of negative consequence that the real world lives in, just does not exist for them. Either in the before hand when the rational can deduce low probability of success, nor in the afterhand, when experience should remind them of negative consequences. It is no wonder they try to remove consequence from real life with their myriad of "programs" meant to "help". In their world consequence for action just does not exist, leaving the only factor in determination of life being random events or "luck" and we don't want people to do with less because of bad "luck" do we?

Incoherence. If we suddenly have the "first scientific explanation" for why conservatives are more "receptive" to (i.e., afraid of) the threat of terrorism, please explain in what part of the brian resides the will to fight them? How many little lefties from Berkeley enlisted after 9/11? Oh, but I guess they were amygdala-advantaged enough not to be "receptive" to threats of terrorism, including not being receptive to Islamic proclivities to mutilate genitals of young women, behead journalists, blow up busloads of innocent people, hang homosexuals, use donkeys and dogs as mobile bombs and impose or try to impose vicious theocracy everywhere they cart their miserable carcasses. Must be nice having an amygdala that lets you not be "receptive" to anything that might call for some kind of moral or physical response.
The fuc*ing Left -- they never stop coming at you, and from every angle. Why would they? They own every angle. Science, art, media, academic, political. Owned and despoiled and exploited to advance their agenda. It never stops. As Horowitz says, it never stops because at least some slice of every new generation of young people is susceptible to their lies and conceits.

@ 350
Ted,
"These UK guys sound like Nazi scientists describing the physiological inferiority of Jews in the 1930s."
Make no mistake about it! The Hardcore Leftist Elites that are behind the scenes, pulling the strings have that exact agenda in mind. Any method that can use "Science" to control behavior and lead to Eugenics, so that they can have their 1000 Year Reich, they have pursued, and they aren't gonna stop until they get what they want. If you have spare time research the Psycology field in America's Universities, and learn about the black-balling that is going on...all based on fullfilling political agendas. Same thing is happending in the Climate Sciences as well.
"Agree with them....Or your Out!"......it's that simple!
