Actually, let's make it two contests. The winner of each gets one entire year of absolutely free content at AOSHQ. And bragging rights. Entries are due by Friday, October 22 at noon Eastern; see below for details.
First Contest: House of Representatives
How many seats will the GOP gain (net) in the House?
Rasmussen predicts 55.
Nate Silver says 47 or 48.
Whoever gets it right on the dot or closest without going over (hey, it worked for Bob Barker) wins.
Second Contest: Senate
Predict the outcome in the following eleven senate races, which we've given particular attention to here at the HQ:

PS Chuck could have beaten Babs, but CA is the flagship "electable" state, so we ended up with a CEO candidate who paid herself 7 figs while firing large numbers of employees (Meg may survive that, Carly won't). Here's hoping Chuck's still around in 2016 and hoping Babs keeps publicly and ostenstatiously acting like Queen Marie for the next six years.

Alan Krueger, the U.S. Treasury DepartmentÂ’s chief economist, is leaving the post next month to return to Princeton University.
Krueger, 50, the TreasuryÂ’s assistant secretary for economic policy, is going back to Princeton because his two-year leave of absence from the university is ending, Treasury spokeswoman Sandra Salstrom said in an e-mail today.
Krueger is the latest Obama administration economic official to return to academia. Lawrence Summers, director of the presidentÂ’s National Economic Council, is scheduled to leave for Harvard University by the end of the year. Christina Romer, who headed the Council of Economic Advisers, left in September for the University of California at Berkeley.
Krueger focused much of his attention on U.S. unemployment, which remained at 9.6 percent in September.

The Senate is going to be close to a 50-50 split but because I never had the slightest hope the Senate was within reach, I'd settle for 52-D:48-R. There will be enough Democrats up for reelection in 2012 that they will be a bit more careful about rousting the Republicans and, of course, the GOP will have the filibuster back. With Obama's "veto", there is little chance the GOP can ram through anything he opposes but the reverse will be true, as well, if we can keep the remaining RINOs fearing for their jobs.
Anyone game for some "postmortem" analysis by the lamestream media, assuming things go as well as we hope?
The best "unexpected" headline wins.

So far, there are no Lisa M spoilers on the ballot, and the process seems pretty lenient. There will probably be a lengthy inspection, if it's a close election. But Lt. Gov. Craig Campbell told The Associated Press that officials don't want to disenfranchise any voters and that he suspects, if there's a minor misspelling of, say, Murkowski, that those ballots will be counted for her.

I think Angle has it. Amazingly, I just really think she does. People don't like Harry and Nevada is a state that should tilt conservative. Their economy has been hammered and they are wedged between two polars: CA or UT. They can see what happens if they go more lib (CA = apocalypse) or go more conservative (UT = soaking up the high tech companies fleeing CA). She's got the money and the momentum.

WV will be tough because Democrat corruption is fully up and operational there. It's as bad as IL, and both races will need turnout to counter guaranteed cheating. In WV, I think they can do it. That recent Marshall poll by Oliviero's people was bunk, but it gives you an idea of what they believe they can get away with. The most compelling arguments against Manchin: his daughter got a degree she didn't earn from WVU, proven corruption. "Open For Business." This is a special election for the remaining two years of Byrd's term. In two years, Manchin's term is up. His supporters will wait it out, because there is always "next time." Obama is too unpopular there.

I saw the Tea Party convention in VA on TV. I have a feeling VA's legislature is going to be comprised of a very very solid majority of constitutional conservatives by 2011 and 2012. That DeathCare law will not be enforced in VA. I had to visit some collegues in VA, and these are conservative/independent dems, they are beyond livid at what they are being inflicted with from these fed. legislations, heck they were quoting Patrick Henry, never seen them this engaged and enraged in what is going on.

Yup, they never seem to see an upside to increasing China's rate of consumption and all the new jobs and wealth that would create. At the same time, they also can't come up with an upside to us consuming less. There is no reason for us to consume less. In fact, we should start taking a serious look at producing more consumer items here. It's clear that this global economy and the service economy aren't working for us. We have to stop depending on the rest of the world (who mostly doesn't share our thirst for freedom) and concentrate on making our own goods here.
Those of us who work know what needs to be done. Economics is no more complicated that balancing our checkbooks, it's just that Washington uses a lot more zeros than we do.

I was mulling potential tie-breakers for both contests. Percentages seems like a good way to go. Maybe Bielat-Frank's race in the House and Fiorina-Boxer in the Senate. Thoughts?

In PA-12, the Democrats have name recognition going for them. That's what usually puts the porkers over the top. In that area, union presence is strong, and long-time incumbents have usually built up an impressive volunteer base. The Democrats had all that going for them, and while Burns was good, he ran the wrong campaign, making it national instead of focusing on jobs. Raese ran against Byrd in 2006, by contrast, and won about a third of the vote. This will mark his fourth statewide campaign. So, the voters know him. The elitist and carpetbagger names won't stick, and that seems to be the Democrats' whole campaign. Manchin is trying desperately to distance himself from Obama. In the end, I don't think he'll be able to do it.
