David Frum Canned at AEI
— Ace

I noticed the other day that Frum represented himself as a member of the conservative/capitalist American Enterprise Institute. That made me wonder about AEI.

Well, it made AEI wonder about AEI, too, and today, they terminated their relationship with Frum over lunch. Frum says in his "resignation" letter that it's a resignation, but, um, it seems to be one of those resignations that comes before a formal dismissal.

Dear Arthur,

This will memorialize our conversation at lunch today. Effective immediately, my position as a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute is terminated. I appreciate the consideration that delays my emptying of my office until after my return from travel next week. Premises will be vacated no later than April 9.

I have had many fruitful years at the American Enterprise Institute, and I do regret this abrupt and unexpected conclusion of our relationship.

Very truly yours,

David Frum

54 It's simply time that Conservatives expunge liberals from all institutions in the Republican sphere of influence. This is a good start, but it's only the bare minimum of a start.

David Frum is a Democrat Party infiltrator. His only purpose in the Republican Party and in Republican institutions is to push the Republican Party leftward toward Democrat Party objectives.

Mitt Romney is also a Republicrat. He signed ObamaCare while Governor of Massachusetts, the most liberal Democrat state in the nation which had no problem electing him. And he had no problem signing the laws the liberal Democrat Party legislature passed. Including individual mandates, fines and IRS harassment for anyone who doesn't buy health insurance.

These people must be expunged from our institutions. They are not Republicans. They are infiltrators.

Probably.  I'm guessing we'll see articles in the NYT over the next few months detailing the way "I didn't leave the Republican party.  The party left me."  And we'll get to hear about how the extremist creationists are calling all the shots and how the party is in terminal decline.

His principles are pretty malleable, and he has to pay the bills.  We might even see him on Huffpo, eventually, for "balance".

64 Since we're outing phonies, thought I'd offer up the following:

The man who threw the money at Parkinson Bob at the OH TEA Party protest has apologized.  However, the media keeps reporting that Bob was a nuclear engineer -- his education (if we are to believe him) is in political economy.

http://tinyurl.com/yc379k7

Here's his bio according to We! magazine:

Robert A. Letcher, Ph.D. is a political economist who describes himself as "an academic without portfolio, writer, political activist, and Qigong practitioner who tries to help people learn".

His rants are found here in this "progressive" online magazine We!

http://www.wemagazine.org/author/robert-letcher/

No doubt he was trying to draw the TEA Party folks into some sort of confrontation.  What's interesting is he didn't write a thing about his concerns about his Parkinson's and health care when he wrote for We!

119 Business English is deadly enough without scrambling it. “As regards your downsizing plan . . .” is acceptable, if stiff. “In regard to” “and “with regard to” are also correct. But “in regards to” is nonstandard. You can also convey the same idea with “in respect to” or “with respect to,” or—simplest of all—just plain “regarding.”

The only matter that can be considered questionable is the weekend I spent with Congressman Barney Frank in Maine.  During this vacation, I did awaken on one occasion and find Barney's undulating hips compressing against my straining buttocks.

He controlled the primaries because he latterly runs the Party in this State.

Since them local Republican party councils have censured him three times.  That is where that stupid line about him being as much of a RINO as Ronald Regan came from.

We have until 2014 to live with him now unless the Vince Flynn version of "Term Limits" is implemented.

From the Jules Crittenden post defending David Frum:

Regarding my cousin as polite company, I have to say he is in fact some of the most polite and genteel company IÂ’ve ever had the pleasure to find myself in. Considerate, curious, always eager to engage and never offensive.

Well, if that's the case, it says something.  Frum has said that Sarah Palin made it to the top through sex; that Rush Limbaugh is a fat liar who only espouses conservative ideas for cash; that conservatives who disagree with him are unpatriotic; and I'm not exactly sure what point he was trying to make about Mark Levin, other than that he hated him.

So if Crittenden's post is true, and I have no reason to doubt it, then David Frum is a shit-talking pussy who says things behind people's backs that he lacks the balls to say to their faces.

@195:  the "big tent" was a crock to begin with.

The term was never used until after George W. Bush became President, when the GOP had won three straight elections--1980, 1984, and 1988--with respectively 52%, 59%, and 53% of the vote. Under the Big Tent strategy, that fell to 37% in 1992, rose slightly to 41% in 1996, and went up to a whopping 48% in 2000.

In 2004 the GOP finally got a majority of 51% again--but that was in a year when Bush II was differentiating himself from Kerry, and actually distancing himself from the Big Tent strategy.  In 2008, the GOP went back to BT and dropped to 46%.

Clearly, every time the Big Tent is used, the number of people actually in the tent shrinks.  Maybe it should be called the Empty Tent instead.

FWIW, I actually think there is a subtle difference between David Frum and David Brooks.  Frum is actually worse.

Brooks seems to be content to be the pet canary for the left-wing news media, and to more or less parrot their views while trying to sound moderate.  (Yeah, I know, a mixed bird metaphor).

Frum, however, actually seems to have some kind of megalomaniac idea of taking over the conservative movement.  Thus, where Brooks mostly just talks about how smart and stylish he and his hero Zero are, Frum devotes almost every article to cheap shots against conservatives.

What's really funny here is that, even if he weren't a backstabbing pussy, Frum could no more lead any political group than he could quarterback for the New Orleans Saints.  He's not leader material.  He couldn't inspire people in Hell to chip in for an air conditioner.  He's a loser.

191 David, don't forget to toss out those old Maxi-pad wrappers when you're cleaning out your desk...

Time to once again dust off my favorite lyrics from The Queers:

"See you later, fuckface,

See you later, fuckface,

See you in the funny pages,

Fuck you!

See you later, fuckface,

See you later, fuckface,

We hate you."

193 Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Always trying to fit in and never really finding a home. Come on back to Canada, we are still trying to get out from under the shadow of that legacy Barbara left behind in the hall of the fabled CBC so I am sure the University of Ottawa could find a spot for you...dork.

194 Another moderate conservative thrown under the bus. He says the AEI guys actually agree with Obama quite a bit on healthcare. It is likely the same with the folks at Heritage as they were behind alot of the 1994 proposal which was in favor or the individual mandate and tax credits for the poor. Of course in this environment, everyone must forget that most of the ideas in the new health care law came from Republicans. That wouldn't be proper hateful form.

195 He'll be taking Madcow's place at MSNBC...she's supposedly going to run against Scott Brown.  Heh.

196 I mean **maybe** he'll be taking madcow's place....I didn't mean to start any bad rumor.

Frum, however, actually seems to have some kind of megalomaniac idea of taking over the conservative movement.

Heh...yeah...

Now that he's got more free time he's going to start a Legion of Doom with Rob Dreher and Andrew Sullivan.

198 Who's David Frum?

199 Steve the Pirate wrote: "I mean, what's Frum's salient intellectual achievement that merits him a place at a pretty prestigious wonk-factory like AEI?" Well, he was Dubya's speechwriter for a while and is credited with coming up with the "axis of evil" phrase. I'm sure having that on his resume would impress most conservative think tanks. It probably also explains why they were a bit reluctant to boot him earlier. Frum's become a total squish, but in years gone past, he did some decent work. Hell, an awful lot of former LGF readers were willing to put up with Mad King Charles until he finally kicked their asses to the curb. And they didn't even know the man. It doesn't surprise me that people who had actually worked and socialized with Frum, who were used to thinking of him as an ally, had a hard time facing facts.

200 For a conversation to end with "Thanks for giving me a week to pack" it had to start with "Get The Fuck Out Now."

201 Charles Murray (on The Corner at NRO) says Frum was canned for being an unproductive goof-off.

Posted by: Sam at March 26, 2010 08:02 AM (EW2PA)

202 The guy was canned because, as a demonstrable matter of objective fact, he's obnoxious and takes cheap shots at fellow conservatives. Not because of the "waterloo" essay, or solely because he never showed up at the office (altho that arrogance is a facet of said obnoxiousness). the canning is long overdue. He's a jerk, we've all heard and watched him be a jerk. Why donors to AEI should be expected meekly and silently to give aid and succor to such an asshole is beyond me.

203 Anything clinton says should have to be repeated by him while hooked up to a lie detector machine...just to make sure he actually did learn his lesson about lying, with conviction, under oath, and right to the world's face, with wagging finger and all. I'm not conviced he's divested himself of that propensity just yet.
