John Lennon was very talented, but he needed Paul McCartney to polish his songs into the gems they were with The Beatles. When they split up John lost any limits and it shows. I still haven't recovered from the "news reports" of the Coffee Party rally that consisted of 5 people at a table in a cafe.  They wrote the report as if it was all serious.  It reminded me of reports I used to read about some Palestinian "administrative committee" and all the official work they were doing, only to finally see a picture of 3 guys meeting in a closet, essentially.  I was just glad the picture wasn't scratch and sniff.

After September 11th, people were flocking to Manhattan to pay homage. Remember that? A lotta people were visiting 'ground zero.' We were encouraged to 'spend money in NYC'  because businesses were hurting.

Well, that part was bullshit. Anyway, I decided to drive down to NYC in December '01 and spend a night. I went on the 6th, I think, and the temperature was 70 degrees!

So I took my little sightseeing tour around the city and I ended at the Met. Then I walked through Central Park and ran across this silly little shrine (Strawberry Fields) for George Harrison who died in November 2001.

By the time I left NYC, I was back to hating the city and all people in it, again. Which is good because it means things were back to normal. I have no point to this story.

Jane, you are drawing a distinction without a difference.  "True liberals" are staticists, which makes them statists.  Not only that, but they seek a Democracy instead of a Republic (hence, they are "Democrats" and we are "Republicans").  The "true liberals" want a national government, not a federal one, and they want that government to dictate every single aspect of our daily lives, including what we are allowed to think.

What we have, between American conservatives and AMerican liberals is an asymmetric situation.  They can easily live with us, as we are federalists who give power to the states to govern themselves as they see fit, hence allowing liberal states to make total leftist shitholes out of themselves if they want.  Liberals are given the rights, by our view, to screw up their own states and do whatever crazy crap they want.  But we can't live with liberals, because they want to take all state sovereignty away and force everyone in the US to follow the exact same set of laws - laws that govern everything imaginable (and insanely stupid laws, at that). 

They can live with us in power because we let them be the fruitcakes they want to be.  We can't live with them in power because they demand that we be the fruitcakes they want to be.  That is the basic asymmetry between the American left and right and there is no real solution to that.

To me, the inevitable end is pretty clear.  It isn't our choice. The left forces it on us, as they try to force everything on us.  One end preserves the American creed (the most important task American society has).  The other crushes it and takes the US back hundreds of years.  I don't see any choice in it.

You are conflating issues.  To give a simplified analogy, someone can understand and respect marital fidelity but still understand that marriages can break up if one side forces the issue.  In fact, one side of a marriage violating the rule of marital fidelity is often the reason for the other to dissolve the marriage.  When the US COnstitution is torn to shreds, it becomes null and void as a contract, leading to secession by those states that decide to no longer be bound by one side of a contract that the counter-party has violated and destroyed.

I make no mention of force.  If the federal government destroys the Constitution, states are no longer bound by it and perfectly within their rights to leave the Union.  As I mentioned above (and have said many times before) the left is inviting and encouraging a monetary catastrophe that will likely spell the dissolution of the federal government, anyway.

I have no idea what point you think you are making.  You're all over the place.  Do you understand what "ourselves and our Posterity" means?  Do you understand what the actual task of the federal government is, and to whom that government is beholden?  Do you understand what national sovereignty means and why it is a necessity?

The fact is that our nation is split not just by states, but in urban/other.  All cities are essentially liberal compounds.  So?  Look at electoral maps by county and start to get a real sense of how America splits, politically.

But, in your 50 years, you have NEVER seen the federal government totally out of control as it is, now. Much of what it has done has been irreparable damage.

It's certainly better if the US can stay intact, but only to save and maintain the American creed, which has been unique and a driving force in the world.

And, I would point you to Sept 2008 to see why the future of this nation is just not totally within our control. Monetary collapse kills nations and the anti-growth, anti-capitalist, anti-individualist policies that have been pushed on us (and are championed by many, now) will insure monetary collapse of the nation. The attorney said his client would not be eligible for a green card under normal circumstances, but he is seeking a hardship waiver for her. If she were to have to leave the U.S., she would have to wait 10 years before reapplying.

"I can't imagine a bigger injustice than that, to be deporting someone's wife who is fighting and possibly dying for our country," Kolken told the station.

An immigration judge put a temporary stop to the proceedings since Alex Jimenez was reported missing. The soldier's wife is living with family members in Pennsylvania, the station reported.

The social contract doesn't work when people can just opt out whenever they feel unhappy with it. I don't want the next Republican president to have to deal with Mass and NY threatening to secede. Unlike the 1800's there aren't many places left where secessionists could go to start their own country - the list of problems goes on (how to compensate for public property of the US govt, how to handle "loyalist" citizens, etc...) However, the opposition we're facing now is of the hard-left, double-down style of Lenin and Alinsky, not the triangulating Clintonian style. They're winning more and more of their offices by outright electoral fraud (check the story on Wisconsin's latest "voter reform" measure from last week for an example). These folks don't play by the rules, so I understand the frustration that makes secession look like a solution. However, we're the ones playing by the rules and it's our country. Obama didn't lead a revolution, he led a putsch. He doesn't have popular support, any more than his beloved Bolsheviks did among the left wing in St Petersburg back in 1917. We don't need a new government - Obama and his hard left cronies need to be run out of the somewhat run-down but perfectly fixable one we already have. The only time to discuss secession or other "nuclear" political options is when the Democrats hold power in open defiance of a clear majority of Americans - and that time's not here yet. Until then, vote Republican in November 2010 and 2012 and try to get the reins back legally. If that doesn't work, I'll be ready to discuss "out of the box" solutions. Federal recall elections would be a damned good way to get the assholes out of our capital rather than having to start a new one, IMO.
