DeFazio Releases Letter Claiming He's a Firm No
— Ace

There's a lot of debate whether DeFazi is a real No or a fake one. He seems pretty firm in this letter. His problem is the formula for Medicare payments:

I voted for the original bill for three principal reasons: it had a public option which would get people out from under the thumb of the insurance industry; it had national exchanges which would give people lower rates and better coverage; and, after decades of trying, we finally fixed the Medicare geographic disparities formula which discriminates against Oregon and 16 other states. The most current version of the health care bill includes none of these provisions and unless we fix the geographic disparities, I cannot vote for this bill. We negotiated this change for months and we finally got an agreement included in the House bill and expected it to be in the final bill, but it has been removed.

This isn't negotiation over the terms bill, I reckon, as the caucus seems firm that Sunday will be votin' day. So it is presumably too late to reinsert that part.

It could, however, be DeFazio's demand for a separate provision, or some other payoff, or his insistence that he won't be joining the Suicide Squad.

DeFazio has little to worry about from the right, though -- he district is solidly Democratic and he doesn't seem to have a competitive race. (Yet.)

So I'm not sure why he wouldn't gladly join the Suicide Squad.

1 Here's my question to everyone about "vote them out in November".  I'm not trying to be an eeyore about things by asking this, but I'm seriously interested to know what people think.

Do people here think the democrats are going to roll-over and lose the election this fall, or do they have a plan (say, amnesty giving them enough votes to mitigate their losses)?

I voted for the original bill for three principal reasons: it had a public option which would get people out from under the thumb of the insurance industry;

And place them firmly under the thumb of the government...

it had national exchanges which would give people lower rates and better coverage;

Which would drive insurance companies out of business and again give all control to Big Daddy Government...

and, after decades of trying, we finally fixed the Medicare geographic disparities formula which discriminates against Oregon and 16 other states.

Because it's only fair if my state/district/little fiefdom get's preferential treatment.  I won't tolerate it if someone else gets it and I don't.

The most current version of the health care bill includes none of these provisions and unless we fix the geographic disparities, I cannot vote for this bill. We negotiated this change for months and we finally got an agreement included in the House bill and expected it to be in the final bill, but it has been removed.

Ok.. I'll take every no vote I can get, granted.. but even if this guy votes no we should still do our utmost to oust him from Congress.  What a flake.

4 Doesn't mean anything! Doesn't mean anything! Even if he votes "no" they'll record it as "yes"! If 435 congressmen vote against it and they drop the deem rule and Sarah Palin quantum-leaps into Obama for the rest of his term this will still pass! You stupid conservatives want to fight when all the smart people know we should all get on all fours and spread the ass cheeks! Doom doom doom doom doom!

Maybe you're being thrown off by a Democrat sticking to his principals.

6 I'm having a moron meet-up for one at my local drinking hole and I say the letter is like the accessorizing my waitress has done to her chest - FAKE.  But it looks good.

9 Yep. And Kucinish was a firm "No" this past Sunday. Just read his OP-ED! Then three days later after a little fellating from Teh Unicorn Gardner, he's now a 'Yes'

Well if this thing does pass I think it will be the last thing they can pass, at least if we stay vigilant.  They don't have a super majority in the Senate anymore, and we need to crank up the heat.. no, scratch that, we need to light a serious oil fire under the Republican's in the Senate and keep them from passing anything, absolutely anything else before the elections.

If they can't get it through the Senate, they can't use any more of these BS, screw the constitution manuevers to push anything else through.  Trick is we have to lean HARD on the party and even HARDER on our usual merry band of dipshit RINO's and make damn sure nothing else gets through.

Make certain that if this thing does pass it's the last damn thing they can pass before they lose the House and with luck the Senate.

But no matter what happens we can't lose heart, we can't lose faith.  This health care BS isn't over till it's over, and the fat lady won't even get her first curtain call till at least 2012.

Just because no one has ever managed to repeal a monster entitlement bill like this before doesn't mean we can't do it once we get the White House back in 2012.  Remember, nobody has ever managed to ram a piece of crap bill like this through with all the dirty tricks and all the BS before either, so this whole thing is making history.

And on the plus side the only way the Dem's could cover this turd with enough chocolate to get the CBO numbers they needed was to delay the benefits - which means the only thing the vast majority of voters will see from this thing by the 2012 elections will be massive tax increases and rising costs for health care insurance, not to mention fines for not purchasing it in the first place.

So I don't think most of the electorate will have much issue with taking torch to this monstrosity and repealing it.  Again we have to keep the pressure on the Republicans and let them know if they want our support that will have to not just be an issue, it must be THE issue in the next two elections.  Repeal Obamacare.

11 Teh One is having a Come to Jesus Obama meeting tomorrow with the entire Dem Caucus.  There, Teh One will count the votes and, seeing there be 210 or so, he will instruct Madam Botoxia to pull the bill.

12 This all seems so 1930ish.  Goddamn fascist bastids anyway.  This may be our last chance to stop a coming Kristallnacht, instead of Jews it will be conservatives, Christians, and independents AND Jews, see latest Obama hatred toward Israel.

These people never relent, this goddamn health care Bill has more lives than Freddy Kruger.  No matter how many times most Americans say no, then absolutely no, then HELL no, they do not listen.  These worshipers of the BEAST (government) go into torment and Hell in the book of Revelation, I pray to God that prophesied outcome begins now.

Let every America-hating, freedom hating bastard that has backed this monstrosity loose HIS job, his freedom, his family, let them lose everything!  Let the Democratic party be defeated, it started and has maintained itself as the party of slavery from its inception, it just morphs with time from physical slavery to ideological and psychological slavery.

Anyone in doubt?  Tell me which party rules nearly all, if not all the inner cities in America?  Who rules Detroit?  Who ruled New Orleans?  Who rules California, a ruined state, or New York?  Who rules the greatest institutions of dogma and intolerance (Our Universities).  Liberals YOU ARE FASCISTS!  Freedom-hating fascists, do it all in the name of compassion you Satanic liars.

Design your velvet lined Iron Maidens, but decry interrogation of our enemies.  Cry with candlelight vigils for the rapist and murderer, but fund the prophets of Baal to murder children in the womb, at least the original prophets of Baal waited for the children to be born before the threw them into the fire for their gods of fertility.

Decry the inequality of women, yet align with Islam in your opposition to Christianity the very force that secured women equlity before the law in Western Civilization.  Shelter under the tree of Western Civilization and enjoy its luxury while you curse the same you Hollywood whores, and liberal churches.

Rightly does the Bible speak of your judgments, that you have become drunk on the blood of the righteous.  God gave us science and control of our environment, (Nearly all the founders of modern science were CHRISTIANS!) and you seek to use that to control OTHERS, to subjugate men and nations, you pervert all truth, both theological and scientific, because the ability to know the truth is NOT in you.

You are certainly just like your father the devil, who's sons in past ages, put Christ to death and celebrated the same, who invented all human torture, and inquisitions, and false religions and false governments.  Today you sit in a land created by people that feared God, and you HATE it, even though you live as the richest 5 percent of all the people on earth, you use your riches to promote darkness.

The House is still angling for a promise "in writing" from the Senate, agreeing they will take up the reconciliation bill - I think everything is going to hinge on that happening.

It ain't gonna happen, and I hope that these House Dems who are selling their votes for something that is in that reconciliation package and Manager’s Amendment package realize that. If they vote to “pass” this thing with no assurances from the Senate, then this is a done deal, the Senate bill “passes” as is, and everyone goes home.

The House Dems will be left holding the bag on a bunch of worthless deals, and a WHOLE LOT of very angry constituents. If that happens, things are going to get very, very ugly, starting in D.C., continuing on to their states, and ending in each RepresentativesÂ’ home district. The House and the Senate will tear each other to shreds, and BamBam wonÂ’t be able to show his face ANYWHERE NEAR anyone in either branch of the legislature for the next 3 years after a betrayal of this magnitude.

I sure hope they have thought all of this out (my guess is they havenÂ’t), and I sure hope that their votes are worth it in the endÂ….

His letter gives the impression that he's just angling for special consideration bribes paid off to his home state.  Toss him a bone in the form of increase Medicare payments for his state and he'll be on board the Armageddon Express.

15 #10 stuck on stupid

Thanks.

I'm so angry about this I feel like I'm levitating off my chair.  I suspect they're going to *try* to ram through amnesty and basically "buy" their re-election in november.  Hopefully they won't be able to.

16 DiFazio said he wouldn't vote for the last round too. And he did anyway, because he knows he won't lose his seat. He could kill and eat black babies on an altar made of nun's skulls wearing a klan robe and get reelected.
