This has to be wrong. The only public library with a head of security, let alone ANY dedicated security staff, would be a city library and this looks like a suburban library. Whoever this guy is he's not a regular library staff member. Unless he's the janitor.

Posted by: weew at August 16, 2010 07:58 AM (p05LM)

31 OK, folks -- what's the threshold when their tactics become unacceptable?

We know they have nothing against armed thugs shouting at people in front of a polling place. We've seen again and again they have nothing against threatening people who ask uncomfortable questions...

Actually, we know the leftist politicians themselves will commit assault and battery if you ask them uncomfortable questions like "do you support President Obama's agenda"...

So never mind -- they've already slid over into the use of force against the public; the presence of thugs at meetings like this is just their way of making sure they have the force on hand and to remind us they're willing to use it.

Thinking you can just say "no cameras" and solve the problem? You can buy a video camera built into a pen for under fifty clams. Are you going to demand townhalls with a strip search or restrict admittance to underwear only? Yet a reliable half of the nation continues to vote for these third-rate wannabe tyrants.

46 This is yet another reason why I feel one of the best hopes we have to avoid this imperial class is the "civic council". Meeting once or twice a month, based upon neighborhoods breakdowns of say, 200-500 residents, it will be the old New England town hall, but without the legislative agendas. Local residents--as they are motivated to do so--will meet and discuss local, state, and national issues. Entry into the council will be seen as one sign of having reached the age maturity.

There are still many details to be worked out, as well as "capture" dangers to be worked out. Above all it needs to have no elements of officialdom presiding over it. Those who have experience with local PTSAs will understand the benefits and pitfalls.

But we have simply got to get past the point where legislators are picked mainly because they have been able to cater to the biases of that crucial round of influential local donors--those able to swing others and prevent challengers from gaining a foothold--the little old lady, the local busybody who wishes to be queen bee, and the retired businessman who thinks he is God's perfect little Christian on one side; and the local labor leader, the local minority leader, the "community organizer", the adjunct faculty member, and the local busybody who wishes to be queen bee.

Especially on the Republican side, I'm beginning to think the local influential donors pick someone who they both trust to say the right thing and of whom they have no fears about themselves not being paid attention to after the election; or not being able to have some level of control over in some way. In other words, Alexander Hamilton does not get sent to King's College, and John Adams and Thomas Jefferson do not get sent to France (I can be wrong, though. Tough to tell from the outside looking in).

And of course, as a matter of principle, the local citizens should have some level of control over the representative in some way, as a matter of principle. Hence the civic council as a counterweight to the invisible "coffee meet and greet".

And a counterweight to such things as this, which are nothing but public relations ploys and elements of campaigns. With civic councils, there will be no getting out of both being part of the people and meeting them--and of having systematic ways for dissent to be brought forth.

This idea is in addition to my idea for 'Constitution book clubs", which are really more Tea Party specific (and can be applied to any faction as an involvement method in parallel to local party structures).

Both ideas will allow people to become involved without having to pledge fealty to the local party and candidate liege lords; having to go knock on doors for that candidate merely because he is the local candidate of the local party, and for no other reason.

It doesn't really matter if he's an off duty cop, gym rat, ex-football player, whatever, in this situation they're basically fungible, and there's an endless supply of them. The problem is the politicians who are willing to use them.

51 Meanwhile, The DNC is begging dems to record Republicans. I got this email a few days ago: With Congress's August recess now under way, Republican members of Congress are starting to show up at Tea Party events and campaign rallies all over the country. We saw last year during the fight for health reform that this is a time when the extremists run rampant. Remember "death panels?" This year, Republicans are looking to have it both ways, trying to appeal to independent voters while making promises to the Tea Party crowd to pursue an extreme right-wing agenda if they regain control of Congress. Who knows what's being said when the cameras aren't running? We don't -- but I sure wish we did. That's where the "Accountability Project" comes in. It's a platform for citizens to document Republican candidates and their public statements at local events, as well as their campaign tactics. The Accountability Project allows you to submit videos, recordings, and other items for publication online, so that candidates see that there's a cost to their dishonest statements -- and so that everyday citizens can see what their Republican candidates for office are saying. We need people like you to take the lead. Sign up today to be a part of the Accountability Project here. The American people deserve an honest debate -- and far too often, candidates try to make misleading attacks and false claims under the radar. This project seeks to shine a light on those practices, and you have a crucial role to play in making it happen. There are several ways in which folks can participate: -- If you have anything that can record video -- from a cell phone to a video camera -- you can go to public events and record what candidates say. -- If you receive any sort of mailings or literature from candidates, you can post them online for all to see. -- And if you hear of any upcoming public events for Republican candidates in your area, you can let everyone know, so that other concerned citizens can get out there. This project will enable folks to keep track of Republican candidates running for every office, up and down the ballot. Please help fight back against Republicans' shadowy tactics -- participate in The Accountability Project: http://my.democrats.org/APsignup Thanks, Shauna Shauna Daly Research Director Democratic National Committee

Unfortunately Bean is ahead in the polls.

Before being Obamboozled by the Lord of the Lies (voting for the “south side kid” by 13 points), this suburban Chicago district, which is only 4% black, went 56% for Bush TWICE. But the polls, after ALL THE ‘RATS HAVE DONE, have Bean up by at least 3. Unless these polls are being incredibly kind to Bean, this is just more evidence that America still has a lot of work to do in CONNECTING THE DOTS. Absolutely disgusting. It is #$#$@$# beyond me that this ‘rat stands a good chance of being reelected in a district like this (hopefully this video will help change this).

Americans may figure the ‘rats out eventually, but will it be in time?

Nope. Guy is not a cop. If he was a cop there for the Congresswoman's safety, he would have never been more than a few feet away from her. If someone started acting up in the crowd, he would have then moved to within a couple of inches of her. He would not leave her side.

Also, he is trying too hard to look like a cop. In this day and age, cops will not act like that, especially with a bunch of video cameras around. The last thing any cop wants is to get into trouble for doing something like this while off-duty.

This guy is SEIU or another union thug.

67 gebrauchshund: "Don't get distracted by musclehead, he's not the problem. Hell, give him an extra $5/hr over what she's paying and he'll go to work for you."

What a great idea. Next time some thug comes up to you to intimidate during a Q&A, tell the guy - loudly, "Look, bud. I know times are hard and you're just doing your job, but tell you what. I'll pay you $5/hr more than the Congress(wo)man XYZ is paying you to stare me down into silence, but on one condition: you have not to keep me from her but her from my pocketbook. In fact, you do that and I may be able give you a raise." You wait a moment for audience guffaws to die down and then continue questioning the Congress(wo)man.

It really leaves them nowhere to go. You disarm the "muscle," you appeal to the taxpaying audience who knows government is failing and doing so at a premium price, you call out the "public servant " for his/her thugishness, and you smack said servant for contributing to the district's and nation's failure. And you do it with a sly smile, all with about two sentences.

Damn! I'm sorry I missed that. Here's how you handle this:

1. Loudly warn thug that you feel threatened by threats presence and close proximity to your person. Loudly ask him to identify himself, who he works for and his title. Instruct him to back away now!

2. If threat fails to back off repeat both questions loudly adding that you are still feeling threatened.

3. If threat fails to back off repeat both questions a third time along with the fact that you still feel threatened and state that you will defend yourself if the threat does not back off. If the threat does not cease it's threatening behavior react and defend yourself by any all appropriate means...

9 times out of 10 the threat will say nothing across all three challenges. With a room full of witnesses who heard you issue three warnings you are safely covered. After all you felt threatened, you repeatedly asked for threat to back off, threat failed to do so. At that point what choice did you have...

Illinois 8 used to be a reliable Republican district, represented for decades by Phil Crane.  Go along to get along drunken Republican.  Melissa Bean turned him out a couple of cycles ago, she's a Democrat but she ran as a moderate Republican, basically.  Very pro-business, etc.  Unfortunately she continues to "grow in office" and has become what you see in this video.

Nancy Pelosi is best friends with Jan Schakowsky, who is the Democrat rep in Illinois 9 right next door.  I think the ladies club has rubbed off on Melissa Bean, and not in a good way.

75 This guy is an off duty cop.

He needs to be made an example of.

He needs ... the full Joe the Plumber treatment.

He was obviously moonlighting ... in most places that is illegal and could lead to firing.

He needs to be identified, sued, his Dept. sued, for intimidation and illegal actions under color of authority. He needs to be fired or suspended.

Come on. Some of you morons are lawyers. We ought to make a concerted effort to "deny the fish the sea" by "draining it." Punish the thugs. Make them pay. So no more thugs will sign up.
