Democratic Buffoon: Republicans Engaged in "Stalinesque" Purge
— Gabriel Malor

That's Chris Matthews' latest description of the Tea Party-flavored GOP kicking Charlie Crist and Arlen Specter to the curb. Also McCain, but that seems more like wishful thinking...

CHRIS MATTHEWS TEASER AT TOP OF SHOW: Also Republican purge. Arlen Specter is out. John McCain, Charlie Crist and Robert Bennett are all being threatened on the right. Is this anyway to run a party or run it into the ground?

...

MATTHEWS: Coming up what happens to Republicans who don't march to the right wing tune? Well they're getting purged. This is Stalinesque, this stuff.

Of course, "sophisticated" people aren't going to have anything to do with that:

MATTHEWS: Well I think watching this -- like all of us I study this thing – it seems like one of the reasons that the Democrats got 90 percent of the Jewish vote, for example, last time around for Barack Obama is not so much love of him or knowledge of him. It was fear of this theocratic, gun-toting party that begins to look more and more right wing, more and more Sarah Palin than it did two years ago. If this party, the Republicans, keep going over to Palin-ism and gun-toters and 2nd Amendment types, I think a lot of people in the suburbs, sophisticated people of all backgrounds, are gonna say, "That's not my party."

Wrong on both facts and analogy. First, the Tea Partiers are, according to polls slightly more educated that the average American and slightly wealthier too. Plenty "sophisticated."

As for the "gun-toters" comment, gun control has been in retreat in this country since the primaries in 2000, when voters on both the Left and the Right made clear that candidates coming out against the Second Amendment aren't going anywhere.

The analogy is also inapt unless Rubio is planning to put a bullet in the back of Crist's head. And the heads of Crist's followers. And pretty much anyone who disagrees with that too.

Matthews' Stalin call-out is why Godwin's Law was coined. Matthews is working the reductio ad Hitlerum with Stalin substituted for Hitler. Either way, same outcome: "You're like a murderous cretin who's so far on the other side of the moral event horizon he's irretrievably and indisputably bad. So shut up."

In Matthew's insane world elections are purges.

And Chrissy, how about all those actual Democratic purges of Democratic candidates that actually win primaries and then are booted off the ticket when they become too "toxic"?

17 Wow, well if there is anybody out there we can trust to tell us what's best for the Republican Party as a whole it's Chris Matthews, right?  I mean here's a guy that's been a staunch supporter of the party for years, so gosh maybe we should take everything he says to heart because he's obviously got our best interests in mind..

Rotflmao - right.  Ok, well you just keep worrying about us over there Chrissy, but we'll be just fine, particularly if we stop listening to people like you.  I'm sure your all for keeping all these RINO's on board, after all, you like having the choice be between Socialism and Socialism-Lite, but speaking for myself personally and apparently a lot of other people as well,  we'd like to take this country down another road.

So thanks Chris, but no thanks.  If you'd like to throw a big welcoming party to these Rino's and invite them over to the Democrat side feel free.  But as we've already seen from the Healthcare debate, your party doesn't deal all that well with folks who won't toe the party line.

22 What's Stalinesque? Stalin used the term "useful idiots" to describe people like Mathews, still works today.

Stalin was really big on saying "Peace, Democracy and Jobs" at his May Day rallies for ignorant people. Still works for people like Chavez and Obama today.

I doubt this is what pissy meant though.

Personally, I know Stalin was a lefty to be shunned. I doubt pissy understands that. Much less that it was not Abe Lincoln who formed the KKK.

24 The more hysterical the left acts about the Tea Partiers, the bigger the victory wil be in November. The MSM cannot change the narrative anymore, and the regular folks out here are simply tired of being treated like semi-retarded chumps by the elitist Dems. 25 Typical liberal hypocrisy and projection. His cute theory might be worthy of debate and discussion if he balanced it with a discussion of how far left the Democrats have moved, and used Joe Lieberman as the poster child example of "purging" a political party. Like that's really going to happen.

Joe Lieberman, please pick up the red courtesy phone.

Absolutely.

I know Matthews is a clown, but I have to admit the fact he gets paid for this scares me. The truly "Stalinesque" thing here is his feigned outrage at Republicans having the gall to hold primaries that have consequences, while conveniently airbrushing the Democrats history away.

So we have Matthews who will literally say anything to excuse his Daily Hate. We have Olberman who seems like he would be thrilled to have a chance to fire up some ovens for those he declares "the worst people in the world". We have Friedman who never misses a chance to bemoan how horrible it is our government isn't a totalitarian dictatorship. We have Democrats at every level accusing Tea Partiers of violence -- while their supporters have been ratcheting up violence against Tea Partiers.

To quote a favorite book character: This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.

"Lord knows, there's not a whole lot of reason to take Chris Matthews seriously. But for giggles, let's look at his claim that the GOP is "Stalin-esque" because of the way Crist and McCain are having a rough time in the primaries.  Now, obviously  he's not talking about the GOP forcibly starving the Ukraine or anything like that. And presumably, Matthews isn't saying that the GOP has launched a series of show trials in which former party members in good standing are tortured or threatened with the murder of their families into giving false confessions (Crist: "In the Spring of 2009 I received secret payments by the running-dog Obama administration...."). So I gather he means that the GOP is purging discordant voices within the party or some such (that's the gist of the second quote from Matthews in the link above).

But even here, as Matthews dilutes the meaning of Stalin-esque to 9 parts water and 1 part  2% milk, Matthews still comes out a buffoon. Because if you take out the murder, butchery and genocide from Stalin-esque you're still left with a purge-from-above. And that is the opposite of what is happening. Arlen Specter is a careerist hack who switched parties because — as he pretty much explicitly explained — he thinks his career is more important than the will of the Republican Party. Crist, too, is afraid not of some metaphorical  Commissar with a gun in his desk arbitrarily purging him, but of the voters in his own party, voters he's counted on, voters he's raised money from, voters he's lied to.

It would be Stalin-esque (again in the very watered down sense) if Michael Steele unilaterally booted Crist et al. from the party over the objections of the rank and file. Instead the rank and file are turning on the long anointed establishment candidates. This "purge" is a lot closer to what some  romantics call "democracy" than what super-geniuses like Matthews calls "Stalin-esque."

39 I'm confused, I thought the whole point of elections was for "we, the people" to choose individuals to represent our wishes in the House, Senate and Office of the President? If the Republican primaries choose individuals to represent them who happen to be conservative, want to uphold 2cd Amendment rights for citizens, protect those same citizens incomes, property and lives with appropriate defense spending and lower taxes, why is he in such a tizzy? That's what I was taught was the governmental process. Am I missing something? Oh, and Waterhouse, cut, jib, newsletter.

I'm sure someone else already said it but - was it a stalinesque purge when Lieberman was defeated in a primary?  And Christ is not the incumbent, so he cannot be "purged".  As far as Spector, the GOP put up with him for far too long, he should have been purged well before he was.  And, again, he was not purged, he just knew he could not win his primary and so switched parties.

This really is sad commentary from a leftist.  Maybe he should reflect on the history of leftism in teh world - Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Castro, and more, before spouting off his nonsense.

Crissy Matthews, on the best day of his pathetic pointless existence, couldn't form a pimple on a man's ass. What a disgusting weakling retard. He is a symptom of the disease infecting this country. 56 When you come from the perspective that the nation and state is better governed by (self-appointed) lords and kings--rather than the people--and that these lords and kings are entitled to rule us so long as they see fit, it makes perfect sense to call this a purge. By driving out this quasi-royalty, the people are engaged in a purge worse than murder: We are humiliating our "betters." (Of who, Matthews considers himself, if not one, at least a courtesan.) The only way to wrap your head around the utter contempt and hatred the left has for the vast majority of America and Americans is to understand they really do think they are royalty--they don't want to be commoners, ordinary folk: Their dreams, from the lowly foot soldier sporting a faded "Obama '08" sticker to the viceroy Pelosi, are the dreams of the elite--they see themselves as smarter, better educated, better mannered, better bred, etc. Their favorite stories on TV and movie are about the sophisticates living in a big city, their favorite people live in gated communities behind bodyguards with true excesses of wealth, their favorite schools are certainly not those "dirty" public universities, and on and on. All the things they love, all the things that are "good" in their lives are the trapping, indices and modes of the wealthy elite. You, with your noise and clamor, your muddy feet on their velvet cushions, your quaint reliance upon written laws, are not just an insult: You are a mortal threat to their divine right. They were beaten back, suffered a terrible blow 233 years ago. But, they are back. They were always going to come back.

80 Well if Charlie Crist disappeared for a month and then showed up again forty pounds lighter, with cigarettes burn scars and a lot of missing teeth, weeping about his crimes against the people of the United states in a show trial on C-Span which concludes in his being sentenced to death or life in prison in a remote North Alaskan town THEN we might call that a Stalinesque purge. But what happened here was a sitting office holder lost a lot of his party's support in polls leading up to a primary. He's probably going to have to run against the party that got him elected to win reelection. That's it. Nobody has been kidnapped brainwashed, tried, and disposed of. What kind of idiot could in good conscience pretend to be confused by the two? And how exactly is what happened to Lieberman any different than what happened to Specter and what seems to be happening to Crist and possibly McCain ? Was Massa 'purged' (non-Stalinesquely) to clear the way for Obamacare?

81 " Hey, Kratos, anything you can do to speed up the coming of the chaos? " Uh, just spam the "X, X, X...TRIANGLE" thing over and over again. It usually works. Or set the game on easy. Oh wait...

82 Chris Matthews is still alive?

Debate with the deranged is never productive.  Let them be.  Most people in this country are decent, and want nothing to do with deranged hate mongers.  If he really bothers you, write to the advertisers.  No money, no whine.

83 Because when (D)emocrats aren't allowed to pick the winners of (R)epublican primaries it's STALINESQUE...  and somehow that isn't McCarthyism...
