— DrewM To channel Michael Gerson, at this point, the options for Obama, Menendez and Reid are limited. They will either repudiate Richard Blumenthal's candidacy or they will be tainted by BlumenthalÂ’s lies.
Blumenthal's campaign is still reeling from the controversy caused by his videotaped speech in Norwalk in 2008 in which he said he had served in Vietnam, when actually he served stateside during the war in the Marine Corps Reserve.
"I have made mistakes," Blumenthal told the crowd at the Democratic Party nominating convention in Hartford. "I regret them. And I have taken responsibility. But this campaign must be about the people of Connecticut."In an acceptance speech that lasted 12 minutes, Blumenthal never once said the word "Vietnam." He did mention his troubles, however.
"This week, as you all know, I had a little bit of a tough time myself," Blumenthal told the crowd. "You all have been hearing what my wife, Cynthia, has been telling me for almost 30 years — that I am not perfect. That I make mistakes."
Mistakes?
Get off at the wrong exit from a highway is a mistake.
Hooking up with an ex after a few too many drinks is a mistake.
Repeatedly saying you served in Vietnam when you didn't? That's a pathological condition.
As Shakespeare wrote in Henry V's St. Crispin Day speech,
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
Is this Blumenthal's way of dealing with that feeling? Was he just trying to gild the lilly when it came to his service?
Don't know, don't care.
Whether or not or you served in a war zone is not something you are unclear on. It's not a trick question. It's a bright line kind of thing.
Aside from his repeated statements on the matter, he let reporters constantly report on his 'Vietnam service'. In his defiant press conference he said he wasn't responsible for correcting mistakes of journalists. Well, he took it upon himself to correct some mistakes.
Mr. Blumenthal is quick to correct unflattering statements published about him or to refute opinions with which he disagrees. One reporter got a call from the attorney general for inserting a middle initial in his name. He has none.
Good to know what his priorities are.
At their convention, Republicans nominated Linda McMahon for the seat. She didn't get enough vote to prevent a primary against former Congressman (and real life Vietnam vet) Rob Simmons.
I know McMahon is a hero for her role in the Blumenthal story but she makes me nervous.
Untested candidates are inherently dangerous but that's doubly true for a woman who has been involved in running a major professional wrestling company. Anyone willing to bet a lot of money there won't be some sordid stories coming out the day after the primary if she wins? Anyone?
Personally, I prefer a nice clear choice between the serial liar and the war hero.

I've come to accept that liberals have no sense of ethics or morals as you and I think of them. The fact that he was lying out of his teeth about his (non) service the entire time simply isn't seen as a problem. Your average liberal is probably amused that we conservatives are "so worked up" about it, thinking "well, it's not like he did anything really bad, like commit a thoughtcrime."
Hell, the fact that he really didn't serve in a combat zone is probably seen by your standard military-loathing liberal as a good thing.

And even later in the speech I say, "When I was the captain of the swim team at Harvard...", Can I later go back and say that because I did actually go to Harvard that when I claimed to be on the team and have been it's Captain I "just misspoke"?

US Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal has been caught yet again insinuating he served in Vietnam when he never set foot there.
The latest embarrassment to the once-soaring Connecticut Democratic hopeful comes from the archives of the Milford Mirror, a weekly paper.
While addressing a crowd at a 2007 Memorial Day parade -- which included the family of a Marine killed in Iraq -- Blumenthal said, "In Vietnam, we had to endure taunts and insults, and no one said, welcome home."
The Democrat added, "I say, welcome home."
In fact, Blumenthal had never served in Vietnam.

State Rep. Nikki Haley, R-Lexington, holds an 11 percentage-point lead over her next closest competitor, according to a Rasmussen Reports survey of more than 900 likely Republican primary voters conducted Monday.
According to the poll, Haley led with 30 percent support, followed by McMaster at 19 percent, Barrett at 17 percent and Bauer at 12 percent. About one in five likely GOP voters - or 19 percent - have yet to make up their mind.
So the conservative who was backed by Palin is now at the top of the list per the Ras.

I don't have a fetish for 'authenticity' or inexperience. I also don't have a love for hacks.
Is it really arguable that an inexperienced candidate is inherently dangerous when it comes to handling the trials of election campaigns? A lot of successful people with attractive stories and positions have wilted under the heat. In somethings, expericence helps. A lot.
At no point did I say it was a deal breaker in and of itself but in this case add it to the unsavory aspect of her company and the availability of another viable candidate (who happens to be ideally set to exploit the major issue that can hurt the Democrat) and yeah, I'm not going to go all gaga over someone just because she's never held office.

Yeah, keep telling yourself that, sparky.
I'm kind of disturbed by the results of a special election we just had here in AZ. I'm not surprised by the outcome but really bothered by the margins.
Basically, it was a proposition calling for a "temporary" sales tax increase so as to keep AZ's government spending line on the hyperbolic track established circa 2006.
So, what am I to make of these results?
Two thirds of the voters in AZ work for the government?
Two thirds of the voters in AZ are fucking idiots?
This was a no-brainer, but despite all of the tea party activism and rhetoric this past year in AZ, the result at the polls was a decisive win for ever-expanding government vs. "grass roots" common sense.
BTW, I hold Governor Jan Brewer responsible for this bullshit. I know that she has a acquired some cachet amongst conservatives nationwide since La Raza thrust her and the whole state into the spotlight as of late but she's no Chris Christie.
She had more than one budget submitted to her that made the necessary spending cuts. She vetoed them all.
Before SB1070 came up, Jan Brewer's monomaniacal focus in life was to raise taxes in AZ.
No matter what.
If she couldn't get the legislature to do it for her she would put it on the ballot so that every goddamn government worker in the state could vote themselves a job.
It worked.
Congratulations Jan!
We are soo fucked.

Sadly, this is the state of the left and democraps, today. They cannot be counted on to exhibit even the minimal levels of civilized behavior or common sense shame when they are caught in their lies, most of which are so blatant and transparent - see the Indonesian Imbecile - that they are offenses to the intellect. Even worse, their supporters don't give a shit, either.
Despicable, lying scumbags are what the dems are fully populated with and there is no amount of "negotiation" that is going to change that. This is why this nation sits perched on such a precipice, with a strong wind blowing it over the edge.
Any bit of civilization that depends on the political individual obeying any rules, traditions, or sense, is gone. The Precedent, with his Indonesian sensibilities and raping of our American institutions, along with his willing junta of the MFM and the dems, have done their job. They have broken this nation beyond repair.

I have mixed feelings on Linda McMahon's candidacy. On the one hand, Vince has made a shitload of money while being headquartered in Connecticut, so he definitely knows his way around. No matter what I think of him personally, which is pretty much negative for the shitty way he treats wrestlers, he's been 100% supportive of the troups by presenting free matches at least annually around Christmas time on bases in the Middle East. I'm sure he's had people do oppo-research to know what to expect on Linda's candidacy. The main thing that worries me is that he generally loses his ass whenever he gets away from wrestling (XFL, some weird body-building competition he tried and a boatload of really crummy movies; although maybe he ultimately made money on the movies).
Anyway he made his jack on having the public believe that something fake is real, and I can't think of a better description for how politics is practiced today.

He is utterly undamaged among the wide swath of liberal voters who have long controlled the political fate of Connecticut. There are few places in the country that are more irreverent of military service than our major cities and uppercrust 'burbs, which is where Dems here draw most of their strength from. Yes, his constituency will be unfazed. Of course.
But. It's a different era now, eh? Is it ever! Connecticut conservatives, and some strange weakly right-leaning political beasties that think they are libertarians, are absolutely seething out of the woodwork here. They had been demoralized, staying home for cycle after cycle but that ain't happening anymore. I have never seen this before. We just need someone to get behind and we could make the big cities irrelevant. This is as good a shot as we'll ever have.

When caught he dodged and weaved and said he misspoke. How is that taking responsibility? What has he done to make amends? Exactly. He hasn't done squat except now he wants everyone to quit talking about it:
Blumenthal: "But this campaign must be about the people of Connecticut."
Right. It's about the people and not the candidate... because we're electing "the people" and "the people" will be voting in the well of the Senate.
But why should this bother the people? They love serial liars. And thieves. Which explains why 80% of Americans don't trust our government. We just need to have a bad guy to blame for our troubles, so putting the bad eggs in Congress just keeps things efficient and makes it an easier basket to watch. Why, Blumenthal is actually a patriot for filling the necessary void.

You mean that it's fixed? Why, knock us over with a feather. Obviously a spectacle that is entertainment is exactly the same as an Attorney General and would-be politician who lied.
But to use your phraseology, "Nothing says honesty like the Legacy Media or snapdragon!" See how I included both a non sequitur and two smears in the same sentence? It's like I just put you in a sleeper hold and forced even more oxygen from your brain.

I think I served at D-Day. Juno Beach. Or was it Gold?
Or maybe it was Antietam. One of those, anyway.

Now, whether there's any knowledge of that on Linda's part... who knows? But I'm sure that if the Dems spread enough money around, they scare up a few old timers who will attest that Linda shot them up personally.

I don't know if this is gonna be that much of a problem. I'm pretty sure that the congressional assholes have already tried to take Vince down for that and either he skated on his own merits or paid all the cocksuckers off.
What might prove to be bothersome are all the embarrassing WWE "story lines" that Vince and his crew of assholes come up with in which de wimmens are always portrayed as gold-digging cum-guzzling mega-implanted back-stabbing sluts, including Vince and Linda's daughter Stephanie. Plus the donks could run ads of WWE footage where Linda kicks people in the nads, is portrayed as being in a coma while Vince is banging all the divas; it's all pretty fucking scuzzy at any level.

I'd first just like to say, from personal experience: hooking up with an ex after a few too many drinks can be considered both a mistake and pathological...
But, more to the point: I am oftentimes altogether mystified about why New England has a consistent history, at least in these modern times, of selecting for their political representation, some of the most despicable human detritus to appear before the eye.
Relatively contemporaneously, oh let's say, among the Democrats: corruptocrat supreme Dodd, his prevaricating bum-boy Blumenthal, the pimp Frank, the late Edward "Social Justice Repents Me of Chappaquiddick" Kennedy and some of the relatively younger degenerative Kennedy spawn, and ick - Leahy. (Dr. Dean, Sanders...don't much like them at all, generally contemptible, but are they as outright odious as the aforementioned, dunno...please advise.) The sentimental aspect of my ethnic solidarity, however limited it may be in the case of Frank, probably still blinds me to the Democrat-caucuser Lieberman's worst moments (amnesty, cap/trade, etc.) in view of his by-and-large decent views re: the Mideast and his support of the Republican ticket in 2008 against Obama.
Among the Republicans, well, a bit better perhaps, but still no great shakes: the Snowe/Collins manned collision, Chafeedammit (is he still even a Republican? - could care less), Brown - well, keeping an eye on his senatorial voting record over the next year of so will probably tell the tale.
I'm probably forgetting some specifics of my American history, but I always figured a region that could produce folks like Samuel Adams, his cousin John and John's boy J.Q., Paul Revere, etc., couldn't be all bad.
On the other hand, there's a youtube clip of an filmed interview with the archetypal New Englander, H.P. Lovecraft, whose fictional and literary critical work I rather admire, and from whose imagination a creature as horrible as Blumenthal could have easily emerged, declaring in very certain terms that, politically, he stannds as a New Deal Democrat, very taken with the domestic policies of FDR. Ouch!
Do I have a point? Not a very significant one, really, only just to say: Frickin' New England Democrats!

Yeah, Laura, but I think that, in an administration like this one, a RINO will tend to help slow the pace at the very least. I would prefer Simmons, but he voted like a RINO as a Congressman a lot of the time as well.
And for those out there who think that MacMahon should be unethered to the WWF or whatever the hell it is called, wasn't she the frickin' CEO?

The average Nutmegger doesn't even know what a turnbuckle is, and that includes me.
Isn't that self-refuting? If you don't know what a turnbuckle is, why even bring it up? Regardless, I agree with Ann. As much as it would amuse me to watch Vince McMahon come out and challenge this Blumee-liar-idiot to join the "kiss-my-ass-club" on Monday Night Raw, Simmons is by far the smarter play.
