— LauraW WOW.
Sestak is apparently not the only one who might have been offered a job in exchange for ditching a run for office.
WASHINGTON — Not long after news leaked last month that Andrew Romanoff was determined to make a Democratic primary run against Sen. Michael Bennet, Romanoff received an unexpected communication from one of the most powerful men in Washington.Jim Messina, President Barack Obama's deputy chief of staff and a storied fixer in the White House political shop, suggested a place for Romanoff might be found in the administration and offered specific suggestions, according to several sources who described the communication to The Denver Post.
As in all things though, it's not the crime (well, actually it is), it's the coverup. In this case, it's the press itself doing the covering up of YET ANOTHER POSSIBLE IMPEACHABLE OFFENSE.
Since that story was published, the Denver Post has been in complete lockdown mode regarding it. No followup articles. No mention at all of a job offer made by the White House to Romanoff even referenced in other related stories.
I wonder if we will ever know the extent to which this administration's water is being carried by these simpering lackeys.
Please go to the post at NewsBusters. It's a great find and I don't want to steal all the good stuff out of it.
You might also want to write the Denver Post and politely inquire with them about their curious indiligence in following up this story.

slightly ot: Both Bennett(D) and Romanoff(D) are to the left of Chuck Schumer.
Bennett(D-CO) voted for every single Pelosi-Reid spending catastrophe. Bennett (D-CO) is now running ads proclaiming his wish to stop out of control government spending. Laughable, considering his voting record and left-wing allegiance.
Are voters so stupid that they will fall for it?

Geez - Nixon resigned over tampering with the political system, but that only involved ONE office (albeit, the highest one).
The current resident of the Oval Office, and his lackeys, appears to have tampered with at least TWO political offices (so far), and that doesn't even count his involvement with the selection of his replacement in the Senate (which I don't remember the details of).

The White House asked former President Bill Clinton to talk to Rep. Joe Sestak about the possibility of obtaining a senior position in the Obama administration if he would drop out of the Democratic primary race against establishment-backed Sen. Arlen Specter, the Obama administration will say in a report to be released Friday morning, Fox News has confirmed.
The report, by the White House Counsel's office, will describe the Clinton conversations as informal and unhinged from any precise job offer since, as a former president, Clinton could not guarantee Sestak anything.

So when Nixon was president, Woodward & Bernstein were falling all over themselves to get the story on a 3rd rate burglary, and its coverup.
Now with Teh Won as precedent, where are the brave reporters who want to make a name for themselves by reporting on actual crimes, you know offering jobs to people for political purposes? <crickets crickets crickets>
This has been standard Chicago politics forever. Blago goes on trial this summer for trying to sell Obama's US senate seat. Yet the amazing lack of curiousity about these dirty deeds done dirt cheap makes it hard to keep up with the cynicism.

Obama tried to get Blago to appoint Valerie Jarrett his US Senate seat from Illinois. (You know Valerie Jarrett, she gave a tv interview to one of the networks right before Teh Won's inauguration and said that he was "Ready to Rule")
Once the word started getting around that Blago had the seat up for sale, Obama's braintrust decided it was getting too hot, so Jarrett withdrew her name and instead went to work for the White House where she is today.

Yeah, I don't think that contrived story gets them out of hot water. A job was offered according to Sestak. Clinton has no authority to offer an Administration job, so the next contact, presumably Emanuel or equal, has the buck land in his lap. And then we get to debate whether Obama goes down or not because Obama would have to have known about the offer though he might be insulated just enough to escape prosecution/impeachment.

There is no way to prosecute this. Clinton can deny contact with the White House and say he really didn't have a job offer, and was just discussing "options" and such. Clinton's prominence as a former President would have made the bribe offer legitimate, yet at the same time provided the admin the necessary standoff and Clinton the plausible deniability necessary to avoid legal action.

As to the Sestak argument, why don't they just claim that since Sestak heard the offer over the phone (if that's how it went), and the phone lines don't have the authority to make the offer, that it's OK.

The Washington Post is reporting that Sestak's brother had conversations with The White House regarding this alleged job offer, not with Clinton.
Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) said Thursday his brother has spoken with White House officials about the congressman's allegation that he was offered an Obama administration job if he would stay out of a Democratic Senate primary. . . .
Richard Sestak, who has served as his brother's top political adviser and campaign lawyer, spoke with administration officials Wednesday, Joe Sestak said.
"They got ahold of my brother on his cellphone, and he spoke to the White House . . . about what's going to occur," said Sestak, who said he expects the White House will release its information Friday. He declined to elaborate on his discussions with his brother.
I understand The Hill is reporting the same thing (but I can't confirm beyond the teaser lede, because I don't have a subscription).

Thru deep investigative work I've been able to come up with the transcript:
Clinton: Hey Joe, it's Bill. What's up?
Sestak: Bill? Bill Clinton?
Clinton: Yeah, I heard you were going to run against Specter in the primary.
Sestak: Yeah, I'm fed up with the establishment making the choices and picking that right wing Specter. We're better then that.
Clinton: You know being a Senator is not what's it cracked up to be. I know because Hillary was one and she likes being a Secretary of State much better. The worse part of course being those lonely nights, ha, ha, when she's away in "Sh*tistan". Maybe you would like being in the Adminstration too. Being a Under-Secretary of the Education is where it's at.
Sestak: I don't understand, are you offering me a job if I drop out of the Senate race?
Clinton: (Note: ruffling of paper in the background, and whispering too) Ha, Ha don't be silly. I am not an agent of this Administration. I am operating of my own accord. President Obama, Rahm Emmaneul, and David Axelrod have no knowledge of this conversation, which is just a friendly chit chat between two friends. (Note: more whispering in the background). How about Secretary of Navy?
Sestak: I think I'll stay in the race.
Clinton: (note: audible "sh*t, the MFer" in the background).
End of transcript.

Clinton: Hey Joe. Congratulations.
Sestak: Congratulations for what? Who the hell is this?
Clinton: That's funny pal. Its me, Bill Clinton. I was just calling to congratulate you on your new job.
Sestak: I have always admired your optimism but we haven't even had the Senate primary yet Mr. President.
Clinton: Not that stuffy senatorial job silly, Secretary of the Navy.
Sestak: What?
Clinton: I heard that you were dropping out.
Sestak: That's bullshit. I did the math. Obama will be out in 2 years. I'm tired of this 2 year election cycle. I'm going for 6 years.
Clinton: The Navy gig is perfect for you. Think of all those assholes who ran you out of the Navy. You can have fun there. Who's to say it wouldn't turn into defense secretary in 2012 if the right person is in the job? You with me here.
Sestak: I gotta go now.
Clinton: Hey, do they still have that Tailhook wingding cuz if they do and if you've got tickets I'd like to go. . . .
End conversation

That depends. Are we talking roast with potatoes and carrots; or shish kabob with onions, green peppers, and pineapple?
