Deval Patrick Signs Bill, Avoids DiT's "Yes, I am That Stupid" Award
— Dave in Texas

Well I'll be. Gov. Patrick decides maybe it'd just be better to avoid taking the "you dummy" hit over this one.

The Massachusetts Governor signed a bill on Wednesday afternoon that saves the job of a retired Marine and public high school ROTC instructor who refused to pay teachers union fees.

Gov. Deval Patrick signed a supplemental bill that included language added as an amendment by state senator Richard R. Tisei that exempts Junior ROTC instructors at public high school across the state from having to pay union fees. Juan Martinez, Patrick's press secretary, confirmed that the ROTC provision was signed.

Not trivial, considering the amendment was introduced by the running mate (Tisei is running for Lt. Gov) of Patrick's opponent for Governor.

Wouldn't it be fun to hear Deval explaining to the union bosses how he really didn't need this bullshit from them right now?

I think so.

1 Sign o' the times...we just might be winning.  BUT let's not get cocky.

What is this "winning" you speak of?

That is just textual illusion foisted on the masses as a false dichotomy imagined by the patriarchy.

In the end, there will only be the dialectic......and chaos, of course.

Indeed, indeed. Reality to union bosses, they read your book.

8 Good news for the ROTC teachers for sure, but the exemption should apply to any teacher who doesn't want to fund the sloppy socialism of unions.

Closed shop rules are fundamentally evil.

He'll just tell them that dues-wide this is chicken feed, which it is, and then remind them of Scott Brown and what might happen in the current climate if he's seen as picking on a vet. He'll follow that with something along the lines of "if the voters revolt over this, you could have a Republican in this office, then where will you be?"

The union thugs won't hold this against him.

19 The unions will sue. The judge has already been lined up. The exemption will be overturned. It's not that easy to fix anything in the USSA.

No worries.  The Fed's announced that they will be swapping old desks from participating banks for $20 billion each to help them out.  When asked how they could do that, the Fed replied, "We swapped over $2 trillion for worthless mortgage-backed securities, and that whole pile of paper isn't worth as much as one desk, especially an oak one."

It's the Federal Reserve and Pawn Shop, now.  But only for special people.

Not a good idea to rely on luck, but that expanded Fed Audit might turn up something. Chope? Hange?

23 I'm glad enough for the guy, but in a larger sense, this carving out of artificial groups of people and exempting them from certain laws, symbolizes everything that's wrong with politics today.

Any serious audit of the Fed would turn up the most perverted books ever seen, I think.  I think "scary" might be a good description.

Hange, for sure.

26 So much for equal representation under the Law. These special carve outs suck, I don't care who they are for. If the law is that damn bad, repeal it. I may be a scoundrel, but sometimes the Law is an Ass, and richly deserves mockery.

28 that exempts Junior ROTC instructors at public high school across the state from having to pay union fees.

Guess that answers the question from the other night. It should exempt anyone from having to pay union dues, if they aren't union members.

Posted by: lorien1973 at June 16, 2010 09:54 PM (ZXnUe)

29 now use this as a bootstrap an argument that all teachers should be free to skip the union dues if they so chose.    Seriously, how can State's be passing laws aimed at specific individuals.

Yeah, kinda makes you think that Obama/Emmanuel/Axelrod wanted the oil washing up on the beach and killing the wildlife for the visual impact...so they could use it as a lever to bring in more taxes and government control.
