— DrewM He's had 5 heart attacks in the last 32 years and now his problems are entering another stage.
Former Vice President Dick Cheney, who has a long history of heart problems, has been fitted with a left ventricular assist device (LVAD), which is a battery-operated, mechanical pump-type device that's surgically implanted to help a weakened heart sustain life.Cheney, 69, underwent the procedure last week at Inova Fairfax Heart and Vascular Institute in Falls Church, Va.
...About 5 million Americans have congestive heart failure, where the heart weakens over time — often as a result of heart attacks — and cannot pump enough blood. Heart transplants are one solution, but few patients find a donor and many are too old or sick for a transplant.
According to the American Heart Association (AHA) the device is sometimes called a “bridge to transplant” because it can “buy time” for the patient.
“In most cases, people who have LVADS are waiting or are being considered for a heart transplant,” Dr. Nieca Goldberg, medical director of the NYU Women’s Heart Program in New York City told FoxNews.com. ”The device helps people with heart failure that have really reduced heart function due to heart muscle damage. Every time he (Cheney) had a heart attack, some amount of heart muscle was damaged,” she said.
This is obviously very serious matter and our hopes and prayers should be with the former VP and his family.

This won't win many friends but Bush and Cheney weren't exactly real big on the constitution either. Two more globalists, just not at the breakneck speed that Obambi is taking us there.
But that was okay 'cause they were..

OT: UK tells Hillary to take her waiver and shove it http://yhoo.it/a2A1xG
NEW YORK – The British government is refusing to allow an American Indian lacrosse team to travel to England using passports issued by the Iroquois Confederacy. The decision was announced hours after the U.S. cleared the team for travel on a one-time waiver at the behest of Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

And Paulbot? Those who know me know better.
But I'm so glad you have your Alinsky tactics down pat.
The same 'groups of folks' that ran the Bush adm. are running this one. You know, the ones that like to see this country deeper and deeper in debt. Obambi is just taking us there faster cause they figure they can get away with it.
We'll see how fast those 'precious republicans' undo all the bad if they retake congress in nov. Will they be constitutionalists and turn things around, or just slow things back down again?

If by "gone downhill" you mean that there aren't a lot of comments like the lefty assholes did when Tony Snow died, I guess you have a point. Otherwise you're trying to act like you didn't completely step in it by having the extremely poor taste to badmouth somebody with a health problem.

A. He is out of office and discussion about differences in political opinion are only relevant in a historical perspective and therefore are not pertinent to the present situation.
B. The man has a serious health issue, which is the topic of the thread, which isn't really the time or place to treat him like a piñata.

Hopefully, Cheney is a suitable candidate for a heart transplant.
Impossible, because in Cheney's case, it would require a double; a heart of gold and a WarCock transplant at the same time. There is no evidence of a horse cock successfully transplanted to a human, therefore, Dick Cheney must suffer with the old heart and the massive WarCock so feared by liberals.

LVADs are no small potatoes. It basically means that the 'pump' of your heart, the left ventricle, isn't working. This isn't something benign like a pacemaker. The guy's heart was failing or they wouldn't do this.
Best wishes to the man, and now I'm wondering if he's on a transplant list.
Posted by: JK at July 14, 2010 03:54 PM (ReqUq)
Yeah, actually the five heart attacks are a little more scary. I remember when having a heart attack was a pretty reliable sign you were gonna be dead within three years or so. 32 years is a long, long time to have that hanging over you.

I am not liking this. He's not too old for a transplant, and (as far as we know) not too sick. Would the only obstacle be the availability of a transplantable heart? Shyt, I hope he gets one.

Perhaps I should spell it out. Those of us who would normally criticize Dick (The more libertarian commenters) recognize that
A. He is out of office and discussion about differences in political opinion are only relevant in a historical perspective and therefore are not pertinent to the present situation.
B. The man has a serious health issue, which is the topic of the thread, which isn't really the time or place to treat him like a piñata.
You might be right MIKE THE MOOSE. You make a good point, however since Cheney is the topic, its hard not to remember what he and W got us into. Iraq, Money, Lives, serious Injuries etc etc. That being said, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND.

I worked on an LVAD system. These systems are highly reliable and greatly helpful. The really interesting thing about and LVAD is that depending on how much you heart needs to be helped you may have little to no pulse. The LVAD puts out a constant flow as opposed to an intermittent flow that our heart contractions put out. Very neat medical device to say the least. I wish the old man well and hope he lives many more years.
Having money to afford good great health care speaks volumes.
Posted by: Peter at July 15, 2010 05:17 AM (E9Jde)
Long term survival in these situations is of course dependent on an number of factors but the will to live of the paitient plays a significant role. I'd say Mr. Cheney has that is spades and I wish him a speedy recovery and years of continued happiness.

Your previous 2 posts show what a clown you actually are. Bush and Cheney declared war on radical Islam, gained approval from Congress, and went to war. The economy didn't start to tank until the Dems took over congress and started pushing their budgets. Yes, I said it. The President doesn't pass the budget, Congress does. THEY are the ones that took every Bush submitted budget, bastardized it and blew it to massive proportions in the name of 'Bush's War' so he'd be blamed. The first bailout by Bush was a bad, bad idea. That, in NO WAY, warranted Obama DOUBLING it in his first 6 months of office.
Until you see the facts, you'll never learn to walk upright on two legs.
