Did Linda McMahon Just Win the Race?
— Ace

Laura covered this below.

Did you watch this? Not only did McMahon ask him the perfect question, but he answered it the perfect way: with baffled bullshit. He had literally no idea now to respond to the question, "How do you create a job?"

This obviously is going to be in commercials.

I think she just won the race.

In Amerika, Jobs create YOU!

We have ways of ensuring that their are enough jobs to go around... we will just ship some of you out to the countryside to work on the Collective farms..

Worked before....

5 The golden rule of economics: "jobs follow capital."  Pursue policies that raise the after-tax return on capital and you will create jobs.  The outsourcing of jobs follows the outsourcing of capital.  Capital formation = jobs formation.  Simple.

8 "jobs follow capital."
That's why we've created so many new civil service jobs because they're all in the capital.

10 This was a total pimp-slap. Blumenthal's answer was completely idiotic. Hopefully people have the common sense to see through the decades of public school commie indoctrination to realize that. By the way, you never see Blumenthal with ex-LAPD commissioner Daryl Gates. Hmm.....

11 I'll repeat what I said in the other thread because I don't think anyone's given her enough credit yet... she diffused the one argument Blumenthal tried to use to attack her, over the WWE health care coverage.

Blumenthal said the company is under state investigation and McMahon countered by saying "We've been in Connecticut for 20 years.  Funny how we're only being investigated now that I'm running against the current AG."  Dick quickly answered "Well, the Dept. of Labor is looking into it" and then dropped the subject.

13 After watching Blumenthal's 'answer', I'm stunned. News reports said that no body blows were landed in the debate. Maybe it's because McMahon asked a simple straightforward question, and the answer was self-eviscerating.

Blumenthal sounded as if he'd never even considered for a moment how real jobs are created. Linda, wrap this one around his throat, and yank hard.

14 Ask a lefty how to create a job. They don't grasp the concept of wealth creation and risk. It goes against their creed. Ask a conservative or republican how to create a job. You will get her answer. Replay this in every race across this country. Every single one. Hammer home the message that the democrats and the lefties don't have the foggiest notion as to how to create a job, as they don't accept the underlying premise that requires that they support some people getting wealthy. Hammer home the message that the republicans, while not perfect, have been staging the best defensive actions that they can for the last 2 years, because they understood that the lefties don't grasp economics 101. Defense against policies of sheer unmitigated stupidity, destructive of wealth or the incentive to create wealth, which means the incentive to create jobs. Play that EVERYWHERE. This is the mantra. Nothing else matters. When the going gets tough, democrats don't have a clue. The republicans, while not perfect, do have a clue. Get rid of the idiots who amplified a recession into a depression, a generational change, a structural economic shift. Blow them way the hell out of government, and never, ever ... allow them back in. Limit the damage Obama can do in the next 2 years, while pushing pro growth, pro business policies. Override his vetos with abandon. Refuse to pass idiotic legislation. Revoke the already passed idiotic legislation.

31 I like to think Ace is right, I really do.

But - McMahon should have done a lot better last night.  Instead, Blumenthal kept her on the defensive over dumb crap like why her company's toys are made in China.

"Because no one would buy them if they cost $30 each!" would have been the perfect comeback.

She should have spent less time defending her company, and more time calling him a liar.

As far as what happens in CT, this is the land of Dodd.  I'll vote early, and often.  I'll keep my fingers crossed.  But I won't hold my breath.

32 I always thought a good debate moderator would ask simple but revealing questions like "Where do jobs come from?". The problem is that after the initial shock even the worst socialist types would learn to answer the proper way and so you'd have to keep developing new ones to avoid the return to platitudes.

34 Blumie, wasn't he there at the fall of Saigon or the pow camp or something? Cause, umm, I heard that he served with honor and all. 35 Personally, I was moved by his answer that a job can be created in a variety of ways by a variety of people but primarily by people and businesses in response to a demand for products and services. That's a combination of capitalism and compassionate conservatism with its emphasis on people, who he mentions twice. It may very well be he, rather than Mrs. McMahon, who runs this clip in the campaign. If voting were a job, I'm afraid I'll be out of one this November 2.

40 @Serious cat question, start of answer with a little clock, a "..." then the end of his answer showing him dithering and unable to answer for all that time. Then her answer. Succinct and to the point. Ask "which group do you think knows how to create a job? The long winded non-answering group that thinks government fighting business to keep jobs? Or government getting out of the way of business and letting entrepreneurs take risks to create wealth ... which results in capital and job formation? Which party gets it? Which do you want focusing our government upon the tasks it needs to get out of the way of job creation? Those who want to fight business tooth and nail, penalize and redistribute wealth and capital, or those who want to take risks, invest, and hire?" Or a shortened version of the above. Could do it easily in a 30 second commercial. Even in a 15 second commercial.

89 What did he say?  I zoned out about 5 seconds into it.  When McMahon speaks at the end, you listen because she cut out the bullshit.

Why is Obama's economy only benefitting Wall Street instead of Main Street?

I warned people not to underestimate her.  Politics and entertainment are very similar fields in a lot of respects.

Remember, the notion Ronald Reagan could someday be President was once considered ludicrous.

101 How do you create a job?

1) Find a willing market. 2) Create value for said market. 3) Repeat until excess capital is big enough to reinvest into the company and expand. 4) Hire employee to handle the additional work created by said expansion.

It's something these stumblefucks on the left can't get their tiny brains around.

102 The same question with a baffled bullshit answer could happen elsewhere.  Except perhaps when there's a RINO and DEM debate.  Neither would ask the question -- their answer would be how they've supported government programs and earmarks...

Wow. Not only was that response complete bullshit, it was transparently so. And how about that creepy look on his face? He looked like he was having a Vietnam flashback when he was trying to answer the question.

106 Here's my idea for an attack ad. It would be a little expensive to run but here goes. Cut the segment into 4 30 minute spots. At the first commercial break play Linda McMahon's question and the first part of his crap. On the next commercial break the next 30 seconds. Rinse repeat until the whole thing is played. Make it look like he continued blathering through the whole TV show. Maybe put on a "To be Continued..." at the end of each segment.

Hi, I'm Mayhem.  You have a choice between a social-democrat centrally managed economy and free markets.  Should be easy.  But oooh, that economy is shaky.  Shaky shaky!

*Blumenthal answers this question*

Protect yourself from socialism and just elect a Conservative.

108 Wow, talk about a body slam. Mrs. McMahon just piledrove Blumenthal out of the race. I can't remember a more obvious example of spin, evasion and crass covering up of an inability to actually answer what is a simple question: "How do you create a job?" Blumenthal knows full well government cannot create actual jobs, but he's not willing to admit that on the air in front of the Obamamaniacs and his Liberal friends. Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee, you Liberal drones, it tolls for thee. (Apologies to John Donne.)

109 @The Monster #55:

No joke, that same quote was going through my head during his response. That, and Brad Whitford's character's spluttering response to the question on business ethics.

Sheesh, looks like the spambots have been busy here. I'd like to create jobs by putting up bounties on spammers.
