Diplomatic Cable leak: Cuba banned Moore's "Sicko"
— Purple Avenger

Ouch, when the hard left Guardian blows the whistle on a commie like Moore, you know its gotta be pretty bad.

...Castro's government apparently went on to ban the film because, the leaked cable claims, it "knows the film is a myth and does not want to risk a popular backlash by showing to Cubans facilities that are clearly not available to the vast majority of them."...
...The memo points out that even the Cuban ruling elite leave Cuba when they need medical care. Fidel Castro, for example, brought in a Spanish doctor during his health crisis in 2006. The vice-minister of health, Abelardo Ramirez, went to France for gastric cancer surgery. The neurosurgeon whoheads CIMEQ [Centro de Investigaciones Médico-Quirúrgicas] hospital – widely regarded as one of the best in Cuba – came to England for eye surgery, returning periodically for checkups...
Cuba: come for the warm weather.
Leave FAST if you get sick.

They only cared when their fellow Cubans would find out that they wouldn't get the same quality of care as shown in the film. Otherwise, meh.

15 #11  Who to believe?, Julian Assbang or Michael Moore.  Man, that's a tough one.

Perhaps the truth lies somewhere in the middle.  Cuba wouldn't have to ban the film.  For maximum propaganda effect with minimal risk for blowback, the Cubans could have released an edited version of the film that while still denigrating our health-care system, would have been devoid of any references to Cuba's own "two-tiered" Party-led system.

19 I'm proud to say I've never seen one of the fat cocksucker's films because I've never found the subject matter of his earliest films remotely interesting or his type of humor funny. Somebody once told me the only way he'd view one would be to go to a multiplex theater and buy a ticket for another film and sneak in to see the Moore garbage. I agree with lowandslow that he's ready to burst and it won't be pretty when that happens; like everything else having to do with him.

Just wait. Raul Castro just made a speech saying there were a million unnecessary govt. workers in Cuba and they were going to start laying them off. 500,00 to start with and another 500k to 800k over a year or so. He warned that Cuba was going broke fast and they were going to have change their idea of what socialism is. Fun times ahead.

27 WhatÂ’s in Rahm EmanuelÂ’s basement?' Five curious questions at Chicago hearing.

The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners must decide if Rahm Emanuel qualifies as a resident and can run to succeed Mayor Richard M. Daley. A three-day hearing on the topic yielded all sorts of questions and answers. Here's a sampling of those both for and against his run.

...

Against: House renter Laurie Halpin said she has full access to the basement and no such items exist there and that a piano and bed were the only Emanuel family items left in the home upon their arrival. A citizen objector asked hearing officer Joseph Morris if the hearing can take a field trip to the Emanuel home to investigate, a request Mr. Morris denied. The Emanuel team submitted photographs to show the location of the crawl space, but many objectioners opposed having them introduced in the hearing and questioned if they were real.

Momma, damned if you don't find the neatest things!  The part on obesity was pretty cool.  And since we have a lot of 'rons fighting the battle of the bulge while sitting at the keyboard (myself included), I thought I'd offer this.

Last month, I saw a promo for the Dr. Oz show on the best and worst of 2010.  Of course, the promo showed a tiny snippet of the best/worst weight-loss drugs.  I finally got around to watching the DVR of it a couple days ago.  He seems pretty conservative about meds, so when he recommends something, I'll give it a whirl.

As you might expect, ephedra was the worst, and a natural (?) substance called glucomannan (Konjac root) was rated the best.  Oz said that a bottle of the capsules was available at health-food stores and under $10 (not true in most cases).  Glucomannan, Oz said, is used as a natural thickener in Japan and works as a fiber tablet, filling up like a sponge in your stomach when you drink water.

The first GNC I stopped at didn't carry it.  Another GNC in a mall had one bottle left and it was close to $20.  A holistic doc (bonafide MD) once told me that places like GNC and Wally World were the worst place for herbal things, so I went on line and also figured it would be cheaper.  Considering the # of capsules for the price, it is.  From the link below, one commenter suggested going with the powder form.

Haven't gotten around to ordering it yet, but figured I'd just put it out there if anyone was interested. The comments at the bottom of this link sound interesting.  What moron doesn't want chocolate pudding?

Posted by: RushBabe at December 19, 2010 06:46 AM (a3Z62)

37 I have a co-worker who was born in Cuba, and lived there until he was eighteen.  I asked him about the health care there, when Obamacare was still in Congress.  His answer?  "If I give you a sandwich of shit, and you are hungry, you will eat it.  It's free, but it's shit."  He was very emphatic on that point.

Not to thread-jack, but if the UN was around in 1945, the Nazi Party would still be in control of Germany.  Patton would have been prohibited from crossing the Rhine into Germany, because you know, we'd be invading them. And two wrongs don't make a right.

86 http://tinyurl.com/2efkp7k Well, Cuba apparently didn't ban it, Michael Moore says so. He says that it was shown on national television and that U.S. bureaucrats staged an Orwellian coup by making up this story to discredit him. Why they did this in a diplomatic communique which was only released to the public through an illegal leak was not explained. According to Moore: "The entire nation of Cuba was shown the film on national television on April 25, 2008! The Cubans embraced the film so much so it became one of those rare American movies that received a theatrical distribution in Cuba. I personally ensured that a 35mm print got to the Film Institute in Havana. Screenings of 'Sicko' were set up in towns all across the country." He further elaborated that "John Lennon and Mao both attended the Cuban premier disguised so that only I could recognize them. After the screening, we all flew to the north pole with Castro to meet Santa and I got to sit on his lap and he promised me that Obama would become President for Life and make everything perfect forever." "Women are totally into me." added the filmmaker.
