— DrewM Rahm Emanuel reportedly opposed sending KSM and the rest of the gang to civilian trials in NY but Attorney General Eric "Nation Of Cowards" Holder won out? Seems Rahm isn't a complete, dare I say, fucking retard.
White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel vehemently opposed Attorney General Eric Holder’s decision to put alleged September 11 plotters on trial in a civilian court, according to a new account from the New Yorker’s Jane Mayer.“Rahm felt very, very strongly that it was a mistake to prosecute the 9/11 people in the federal courts, and that it was picking an unnecessary fight with the military-commission people,” Mayer quoted an “informed source” as saying.
The New Yorker story says EmanuelÂ’s opposition was driven in part by concerns that the decision would alienate Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). Graham wants the 9/11 suspects tried by military commissions, but he favors the closure of Guantanamo and has indicated he is willing to break with many in his party to work with the administration on plans to move Guantanamo prisoners to the U.S.
“There was a lot of drama,” the source said, according to the article. “Rahm had a good relationship with Graham, and believed Graham when he said that if you don’t prosecute these people in military commissions I won’t support the closing of Guantánamo. . . . Rahm said, ‘If we don’t have Graham, we can’t close Guantánamo, and it’s on Eric!’ ”
The particulars of the story don't interest me that much. The bottom line is Emanuel is a better political strategist than either Obama or Holder and Lindsay Graham is still annoying. None of this is actually news.
The interesting part to me is this seems to be the first hint of a crack in the veneer of Team No Drama Obama. There are always tensions within a campaign or an administrations but when things are going well the public doesn't see or hear about them. When they aren't, we'll you all remember the McCain campaign, right?
The public and members of Congress on both sides of the aisle are increasingly uncomfortable and angry about the administration's plans to deal with terrorists like KSM and the handling of the Christmas Bomber. Now someone leaks the Chief of Staff is feuding with the AG, who has been on point on those issues?
You start to get the sense the wheels are coming off here, but not before someone gets run over by the bus.
And then there's unemployment, the deficit and a whole host of other issues these guys are behind the curve on. I bet the Illinois Senate and the option to vote "Present" is looking pretty good about now.

How many people oppose it?
right...
Ok, the forest wins over the tree.

Meh. The Little Ballerina wasn't against it because it endangers Americans, only because he knows how wildly unpopular and politically damaging this will be to Wee Wee. It's not like he has morals or ethics, just a political weathervane.
It's frightening that Wee Wee and that c*cksucker Holder harbor so much hate for this country that they will try to do this.
Lindsey Graham needs to be blinded, castrated, and banished.

That one there shows how wrong Graham is. It is not as if Graham doesn't know the true nature of those still left in Gitmo.

The awful conclusion that I have reached:
Holder's decision resulted from the basest of bureaucratic impulses...turf.
This is the ONLY way to explain his complete inability to justify having the trial in Manhattan in a civilian court.
And the President was either a) not paying attention or b) okay with it.
Wow.

They really need to sit down and hold their mistrial (as per the Geneva Conventions) and let the idiots go.
They've already shit on the rug. We can try to pretend it's cute and clean it up, or we can rub their noses in the dogshit.
For a long while _WE_ were evil for wanting to avoid that choice. It's about time they went ahead and did it.

I mentioned this to Vic the other day but since it's on topic I'll mention again. Somehow I ended up on a Joe Wilson telephone townhall the other night and it seemed like every fourth or fifth person complained about how much Miss Lindsey sucked and begged Joe to run against him.
A person I know who has been pretty dialed into SC politics for a long time thinks that Miss Lindsey is done and won't be reelected in 2014. I am more cynical and will wait to see what happens. Unfortunately it still leaves us with five more years of that POS.

Rahm as the voice of reason, albeit for political calculations.
What a ship of fools.
I think it's not so much that Rahm is the voice of reason as it is that Rahm isn't the voice of treason. Eric "nation of cowards" Holder deep down hates this nation and would like to destroy it, as would his boss. Rahm isn't out for Marxism, he's out for Rahm.

He had two primary opponents in the last election. That is unheard of for an incumbent Republican in SC. Of course he won because he controls the Republican Party in this State. There were a LOT of local elections for major offices in which the Republicans did not run a candidate. If you wanted to vote in those elections you had to vote in the Dem primary.
One of the poll workers even questioned me when I asked for a Rep ballot. The fix was in.

Most White House Chiefs of Staff only serve 2-3 years anyway.
Its a very tough and stressful job.
Rahm gave up being in the House, and a good shot at Majority Whip, to go work for Obama. Under the normal course of events, he'd probably be looking for a new job in about a year anyway.

Remember, there are plenty of liberal districts in the country.
A Massachusetts Republican can't be expected to vote the same as a South Carolina Republican and keep his seat. That doesn't make the MA guy a "RINO".
On South Carolina, Graham has been squishy on some issues, even annoyingly so, but overall he's still fairly conservative, and a lot more so than some of his Republican colleagues.

How lucky you are to live in a state where you can be so pure. Most of the rest of us have to practice damage control.
In the general election, there is no grown up choice for purity where I live. Unless you want to tell me that flushing your vote for the American Independent / US Taxpayers / Constitution (Constipation?) Party is a choice. In which case I will tell you that you aren't grown up.

if the rino is honest about being a rino....i have no problem...but rino's that pretend they are conservative and then go out of their way to show how "independant" they are and how willing they are to "cross the isle" and shake hands with their "good friends" should be stripped of all GOP support
People who don't know that a RINO is a RINO are teh stupid, especially if the said RINO has held office before. It is too easy to look up their record on the nets. For example, people are saying Kirk may not be a conservative but he is no RINO and he is as good as we will get in Il.
I throw the BS flag on that. He does in fact have a voting record and he is a DIABLO. Hell, anyone who voted for crap and tax is by definition a DIABLO since even the damn ME sisters are against it.

Speaking of SC;
From the Charleston newspaper (which is not quite as liberal as the Columbia rag):
Rex proposes rise in cigarette tax
COLUMBIA — Anti-tobacco and education groups have joined the state schools chief in calling on legislators to increase the state's cigarette tax to the national average.
State Superintendent Jim Rex said Thursday that the state's 7-cents-per-pack cigarette tax should be increased by $1.27 per pack. He wants half of the additional revenue to go toward education temporarily so the state can stop looming teacher furloughs.
The state's lowest-in-the-nation cigarette tax has not changed since 1977. (misleading crap since SC jined the BS tobacco lawsuit wing resulting in a huge increase in cigarette prices in SC. SC still has got no money from that settlement BTW and they have already spent the money. Look for calls to “how we should spend the money” if they ever do get it).
The Democratic gubernatorial candidate said South Carolina's cigarette tax should be tied to the national average so that it automatically increases when other states raise theirs.
House Ways and Means Chairman Dan Cooper said lawmakers are unlikely to seriously consider the idea.
I just love this kind of shit from the commie weanies. Why is it you NEVER hear of one of them calling for a decrease in the tax when it is above the national average. Hey cockholster Jim Rex! HereÂ’s an idea for youÂ…IÂ’ll be all for increasing the tax on cigarettes (sine I donÂ’t smoke any more) if at the same time you decrease the tax on beer to the national average. Yes, SC has the second highest tax in the nation on beer (AK is the highest).

If he decides to run for congress, it won't be in 2010 - at least, not in Illinois. Primary's over and done with, and Rahm's seat is filled with an incumbent who has no intention of stepping aside.

I highly doubt Rahm will run for his old seat again -- he probably has better opportunity working behind the scenes, and it suits his personality better.
I can see where this is going to turn into a Chitown vs. Washington showdown -- each wants its influence to hold sway. Poor ol' Barry's got himself stuck right in the middle: between the mobsters and the marxists. Damn, dude.
Ehem, just to keep the pot stirring: there was a certain politician from my state who was pretty pro-closing of Gitmo if I recall... (yeah, I'm vindictive like that).
