Dog Sings Lullaby to Stop Baby From Crying
— Ace

Oh, this is too adorable. It's not so much a lullaby as mad Transylvanian howling, but it gets the job done.

Thanks to rdbrewer.

40 Are we sure that isn't a deeply buried response to a predators' howl present in all children - like how deer freeze when they sense a threat. That kid might have gotten quiet because he might be hardwired not to be a snack.

41

I'd like to get either a husky or a malamute. I've been leaning malamute because they are bigger. I do wonder WTF is really going on here between those two but it is very cool.

okay, who else loved Jack London's book when they were a kid, the title of which I cannot remember at this time?

Which one? Whitefang? Call of the Wild?

Posted by: Entropy at March 24, 2010 11:06 AM (IsLT6)

42 I thought it was a girl cause of the pink stroller.

There is probably some note present in the dogs howl that is also present in the howl of the stressed out mom....like all moms no matter what their species howl the same way on the same note.

Let's research this bet we can get a grant from the administration no problem...I mean this is important research...dontcha think?

Posted by: curious at March 24, 2010 11:06 AM (p302b)

43 Pretty cute.  Maybe the dog is trying to cover up the sound of a helpless infant.  In the wild, predators would be attracted to the noises.

49 52  We had a husky that liked to see the other side of the county on a regular basis; we made a little wagon for her to pull (in the winter she pulled one of those disk sleds).  That kept her sane.

Meh.  Party pooper.  Could be, though; we may be hardwired to shut the hell up when predators are howling.  Wish we could figure out a way to make it work on Democrats; sales of huskies would go through the roof.

58 Entropy - I know a very good Mal breeder but of course they are local to me (in PA). Also, if you like this type of dog, I strongly suggest my chosen breed, the Eurasier. Anyone has any interest, I know breeders all over the country. THEY ARE AMAZING. I think I posted a link to my guy on the Yahoo group. Here's the breed club: http://www.useurasierclub.org/

Posted by: BlackOrchid at March 24, 2010 12:04 PM (SB0V2)

59 What a magnificent dog! Definitely a Malamute; our dog is exactly like that one except for the color.

My interpretation is that the dog sees the baby as part of the pack, and is mothering him in her way. Note that she stops at one point, and when the baby makes another little noise, she starts in again.

And she would definitely tear apart any stranger who came too near the baby.

This is why I love dogs, at least those that I love: the sense of duty. All good dogs must have a duty to perform in order to be happy.

It truly is proverbial that on the globe is long for happiness, everyone is seeking it as well as there's no certain strategy for finding it. For contentment brings about unique definitions to be able to person. Very easy be based upon the external conditions but is based on the inner thoughts among us.
