The first paragraph: Americans are increasingly optimistic about the economy, but that brightening outlook hasn't softened their outrage over the country's direction and its political leadership, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds.
OK, everyone raise your hand if you are increasingly optimistic about the economy. Anyone? Bueller?
47 Monty, what you mean, don't forget your towel?
I have no idea what he is talking about. Who would be stupid enough to forget their towel. Seriously.

More importantly, a towel has immense psychological value. For some
reason, if a strag (strag: non-hitch hiker) discovers that a hitch hiker
has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in
possession of a toothbrush, face flannel, soap, tin of biscuits, flask,
compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet weather gear, space suit
etc., etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the hitch hiker
any of these or a dozen other items that the hitch hiker might
accidentally have "lost". What the strag will think is that any man who
can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it,
struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his
towel is is clearly a man to be reckoned with." D. Adams
What I'm trying to say is that Ace is our towel boy.

I'll agree with her OST stuff but if you want to talk about being a pianist, money always goes to Hiromi Uehara (who I think is the best pianist since the 70's). That chick can really pound the keys and her album with Chick Corea is one of the greatest albums of all-time

Do you think Barney Frank would be interested in some rare tulip bulbs I have in my garden? They are hard to find, but very attractive. It's such a shame that the disadvantaged people in our country don't have tulip bulbs. Perhaps we should have a government assistance fund to help them get their own. No money down, 30 years to pay, and look at what a market it would make for tulip growers!

If you are making love it is imperative to bring all bodies to orgasm simultaneously Do not waste time blocking your ears. Do not waste time seeking a soundproof shelter. Try to get as far away from the sonic source as possible, but do not panic.....
Use your wheels. It is what they are for. Small babies may be placed inside the special cocoons, which should be left if possible, in a shelter. Do not attempt to use your own limbs. If no wheels are available, metal, not organic, limbs should be employed whenever possible.....
Remember, in the case of Sonic Attack, Survival means every man for himself. Statistically more people survive if they think only of themselves. Do not attempt to rescue friends, relatives, loved ones. You have only a few seconds to escape. Use those seconds sensibly or you will inevitably die.
Do not panic. Think only of yourself....

I remember years ago I had purchased an Eagles' CD. One song was an insrumental called 'Journey of the Sorcer' or some such. But I knew part of the music, even though I had never heard this song before. Drove me nuts, until I was finally listening to it one day and had an image of someone floating in space.
Damn! Hitchikers Guide theme! Although I don't think the brits ever attributed the Eagles.
I liked that tv series so much that I did actualy read the books. Love 'em.

Oh yeah. The game package came with its own piece of fluff. A piece of fluff was a necessary component to solving one of the puzzles in the game, IIRC.
INFOCOM. Zork 1,2 and 3, Planetfall, Stationfall, Wishbringer, Bureaucracy, Hitchhiker's Guide...all wonderful stuff.

30 not good for the Dems
A strange article. While everything in it is unfavorable to the Dems, it has this under a photo caption:
While most rated Republicans as better able to handle the biggest threats to the future of the USA, voters overwhelmingly favored Democrats to handle the top issues, according to surveys of voters as they left polling places.
Now the photo is just of the Capitol dome, and this caption raises more questions than it answers, while being inconsitent with the text. They don't say what they're claiming the "biggest threats" even are, or what the "top issues" are. There's just a blanket claim that the Dems are favored on these "top issues", without backing it up with anything. Classic liberal media bias.
Is there still somebody in the US who's clueless enough to think a bunch of socialists are the people to have run your economy? That's like hiring a convicted pediphile to run your kid's kindergarten. Oh, right ... but they're not socialists, and you're just a racist! (LOL)

The radio series has yet to make it into my realm of consciousness, but I do really want to give it a listen when I find the time. Maybe on a car trip.
In the end, it's not my most favorite series, but it is definitely enjoyable.
