DSCC Pours $570 K into Mass; SEIU Kicks in $685,000
— Ace

DSCC kicks in.

The DSCC will launch ads on behalf of AG Martha Coakley (D) as she battles to preserve DemsÂ’ 60-seat majority in the Senate.

The DSCC has purchased $567K in ads in the Boston and Springfield markets, a source tells Hotline OnCall.

The move is the most overt DC Dems have made so far in shoring up their candidate in the race against state Sen. Scott Brown (R), demonstrating the partyÂ’s worry that Brown is gaining ground ahead of next TuesdayÂ’s election.

Earlier, the MA Dems, in concert with CoakleyÂ’s campaign, launched a 2-day ad blitz in the same 2 markets at a cost of $288K.

SEIU kicks in another $685,000, in a totally legal, non-coordinated sort of way.

Union plans major ad buy for Coakley
January 12, 2010 06:43 PM

A major national union supporting Democrat Martha Coakley is taking out a massive TV ad buy that slams her Republican rival, Scott Brown, for his positions on abortion and climate change.

The ad taken out by the Service Employees International Union, will begin airing statewide tomorrow. The buy size is $685,000, one of the largest of the election.

And look at that, Scott Brown's donation button still works.

Also on the front page: Doug Flutie endorses.

Thanks to TopSecretK9.

5 Legal or not I don't accept that a governement employees union has the right to say squat about an election. They serve at the pleasure of the people. All of the people. Not just the fucking Democrats. When the fuck did we vote on giving them this right?

the SEIU ads will backfire. Mark my words.

the last thing Coakley needs is the over-the-top scaremongering of the SEIU ad machine. It will not play up here. Unemployment is high, taxes are through the roof, and we have a very unpopular Democrat governor.

9 That's $1.3 million the SEUI/DNC won't be able to use in competitive senate races in CT, ND, AR, DE, CA, FL, NC, OH, NH, PA, CO, or NV.

To save a Democrat seat in Massachusetts.

Ponder that.

I mean, is getting an abortion that difficult these days?

Are abortions that big of an issue in people's lives that they gotta make sure they can have one right away?

Abortion is the last thing on people's minds. And Scott Brown already said he's okay with it. Does he need to say 'I heart Abortions,' or what?

To other Patriots in Massachusetts,

Take a page from the IRANIAN PEOPLE.!!!!!. YES THE IRANIAN PEOPLE.

They were able to mobilize the masses by using twitter. They posted sites and meeting places by using this medium and successfully mounted a movement that up until today resonates in their country.

Use this technology to inform on the precincts that have abnormalities such as, low turnout, intimidation by ACORN, and irregularities in absentee ballots. Send patriots to counter peacefully these abnormalities. Those actions should make this election more characteristic of the peopleÂ’s wishes.

The Kennedy Machine, ACORN, and the mechanism they have in place, are design to cheat us of our vote. Only SHEAR NUMBERS will tilt the democratic process in our favor.

Use twitter to report on low turnout in the precincts, call the voters that are unable to go to the polls and facilitate the means to get there. Be vigilant of intimidation and report it. If you use this technology right, you will prevail and give the people of Massachusetts a chance to make history.

Go Patriots.

The other thing I'll never get is the power of the money and the ads that it buys. I know that I'm hopelessly naive but there is no ad made that would convince me to vote for an Obama or one of his supporters. No cleverness, no funniness, no brilliant words. Nothing. How is it that so many voters seem to be affected by the last commercial they see on TV as they head out the door. Are they so empty headed and manipulable?. Are they so unengaged that the fate of our republic hinges on some dolt and the random chance of him seeing a commercial as he heads off to vote.

Jeez Looeeez.

Posted by: LGoPs at January 12, 2010 04:29 PM (v/rEn)

26
This is clever. I hope Scott Brown doesn't fall for it. But he probably will.

What they're trying to do is force Scott Brown to say more about his pro-choice position. They want to scare away pro-life Republicans from coming out to vote next Tuesday.

30 Well, well, well. The union dues extorted from members for use in political campaigns at the whim of the union leadership regardless of the affiliations of the member will now come home to roost. I think that the rank and file realize that what Brown has promised to stop is a health care overhaul that will cost them thousands each year. The leadership is for one candidate, the members are smart enough to know who is on their side.

34 Rasmussen had the undecideds at around 2%.  I doubt repeated commercials will hold that much sway, but I'm not a marketing guy.  Those people will probably decide in the voting booth, which usually break away from the incumbent in a year like this.

Posted by: Guy Fawkes at January 12, 2010 04:41 PM (DIYmd)

35

Jeez Looeeez.

I've often wondered that myself. The last few days of an election is always a back-to-back Blitzkrieg of campaign commercials. Unless you suffer from temporary amnesia or are just a halfwit in general, who doesn't know about what's going on during election day?

I need to specialize in sign printing or cheap video production. It seems like a hell of a growth industry

2% undecided?  That is infinitesimal.

Posted by: Hatchet Five at January 12, 2010 04:47 PM (n6iqK)

37 Ras always has low undecideds.  I think it has to do with his likely voter screen.  Basically, if you're undecided, you shouldn't be a likely voter is how it would generally shake out.

46 They're spending a lot on this race, but then so are we.  And let's face it, the Big Pharma and the SEIU have a LOT of money to spend.

So we'd better win this one, although even if we don't, a close win (for the Dems) in a state like Mass. will scare the bejeezus out of Dems in more purply/red states.  Still, for the first time in my adult life, I'm proud of Massachusetts.

59 One aspect of this is kinda fascinating.

By any measure, Scott Brown is a center-right kind of guy, he's saying nothing that isn't well within the mainstream and - heaven forfend - he's not even hardcore pro-life.  (As a personal matter what I know of his positions lines up remarkably well with my own, but that's another story)

He's the kind of guy that, according to the Frums and the Noonans and the like,  the lunatic fringe (that is, us) should be chasing with RINO guns blazing trying to run him out of the party.

Instead, said fringe spent yesterday chasing him around with their credit cards.

Hopefully this works to put to bed the 'litmus test' meme.
