CAIR weighs in on Juan Williams:

"You have a sizeable minority of Americans who think it is legitimate to single out Muslims for special scrutiny and deny them rights all other Americans hold dear," said Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations. "That viewpoint expresses intolerance and bigotry."

But you also have a sizeable minority of Muslims who think it is legitimate to indiscriminately kill peaceful folk and deny them the lives all other people hold dear. That viewpoint expresses intolerance and bigotry on a level far beyond "special scrutiny."

Until CAIR acknowledges the sizeable minority that concerns us, I don't see why we should acknowledge the one that concerns them.

I'll say this again; Our leaders and most of the people in our society look on radical Islamists as having somehow perverted the underlying peaceful nature of Islam. Nothing could be further from the truth. Nothing has been perverted. Islam, by its nature is focused on conquest with violence as a primary methodology to employ to achieve that conquest.

We and our leaders make a huge mistake in believing that there is a way to entice Muslims more easily toward peace than toward violence. As long as violence and conquest are codified in their holy writings, there will be a tendency of the adherents to follow it's dictates.

How easy does anyone here think it will be to expunge Islam of its admonishments toward violence?

7) Ergo, Congress has control over how road/traffic signs are made/formatted/displayed on all streets in all cities and towns.

It was the same kind of logic that led to IH-635 and IH-820 (Highway loops in Dallas, and Ft. Worth, respectively) which don't even cross all of Texas, let alone are actually "Interstate" in any meaningful way.

Even though CPB (and therefore NPR and PBS) are subsidized by the Government, they are, on paper, independent NGO corporations. That means NPR could fire Juan for anything they wanted at any time (providing there was no Union or Contractual agreement saying otherwise). This dust-up is a lot more than simply defunding NPR? It's clear that NPR has violated the terms and conditions of it's Congressional Charter, and should lose its 501 (c) tax exempt status. They also receive preferential frequency assignments, and this should be scrutinized and reallocated to the revenue generating stations instead of NPR.

It should be about the tax generating businesses that fund America, and not the faux-businesses like NPR that suck from the taxpayers and generate nothing but liberal inspired bias and no revenue.

I was a dyed-in-the-wool liberal nutjob and until one thing, Susan's Brownmiller's book Against Our Will, showed me that the left were a bunch of hypocritical reality-deniers on an issue. I tried to isolate that issue from the rest of liberal orthodoxy to protect my liberal world view but it proved impossible. One leak in the dam and the whole thing gives way.

Of course, I was twenty-two and Williams will never see fifty-two again but still . . .

I think that the 1st amendment argument has some validity. They are partly funded by the government, therefore they are at least in part, an organ of government. So his firing for expressions of personal opinion (clearly protected speech) is an infringement of his rights.

How important that is? Eh. What is important is the strife among the left, and the trouble it is causing Obama's minions.

164 That's why I consider the "moderate" thing to be a misnomer -- I think there are Muslims who personally wink at the violent parts because they have chosen to not go there and are trying to reform their religion (on a personal or extra personal level) and/or they aren't particularly religious completely and are just MINOs (that would make them "bad" Muslims, apostates, etc. -- which, hell, I'm all for more Muslims becoming "bad" Muslims); then there are those who are religious...which means they have some abiding belief in jihad, all the way from not condemning it to actively doing it (which means killing all unbelievers, including the Muslims of instance #1). The book itself comes down clearly on the side of group 2 though, hence the problems.

And I would equate Islam with Shintoism to a point (the religio-political aspects have some similarity), but in some ways it's more like the mindset of the Chinese: once in the hands of Islam (and this is stretched to its furthest interpretation), always Islam's (kind of like the Chinese think of Taiwan, Vietnam, Tibet, Mongolia, even Korea). Whatever else, I don't think the Japanese bought into the idea that they were doing anything other than conquering and colonizing alien territory; made it easier for them to renounce lost captured territory imho. Plus the Japanese historically weren't so fanatic anyway, loyal, but not that fanatic -- much like the Germans of WWII, they had to be propagandized to a degree.

Another problem is the substantial number of Muslims who 'oppose terrorism' but only when the victims are Muslims. Then there is the 'oppose terrorism' "in all its forms." That's code for Israel and the US being terrorists in case you weren't aware. And finally you have the "oppose killing of all innocent people" (but kuffar -unbelievers- don't count as innocent).

I'm still waiting for as strong a Muslim reaction against mass murder as we see against cartoons and bacon. And waiting...

OTOH, if we won't defend our heritage and civilization's values, why should they _literally_ stick their necks out to help us? The same dynamic we see in Afghanistan applies in London, Paris, or Dearborn. If we won't fight for our individual liberties and secular legal system, they won't do it for us. Tony Blair put two and two together on this recently. Governments kissing up to Muslim Brotherhood Islamists drives true moderates further underground. Deep underground it often seems.
