— Dave in Texas I didn't know the rules. I've paid back all the money. I take full responsibility.
I'm ready to move on.
Texas Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson steered Congressional Black Caucus Foundation scholarships to relatives and the children of relatives, and got busted by the Dallas Morning News. Gabriel covered this story a few days ago.
Cathy over at the Splitters forwarded me a video of Anderson Cooper interviewing Johnson by phone, in which she explains very clearly how she accepts full responsibility, she made a mistake, she didn't know the rules, she paid back all the money, and she's so ready to move on. I'm just linking 3 minutes of it, but you can back it up and watch it all if you want.
Cooper presses the mind-numbingly obvious question, "even if you didn't know the rules (liar), don't you understand that there's an obvious conflict of interest here?"
I'm ready to move on. Also we lost the forms. And I've never seen them.
I did it. I got caught. I gave it back. We can be done now.
Just a possible scenario playing in her head, I do not mean to imply I know what she is thinking.
Anyway, posting this for the sheer brazenness of her response. She's in a totally safe district, but there is a Republican running against her, Stephen Broden. He hasn't got much of a chance, unless perhaps people get pissed off at these unbelievably arrogant politicians, who as LauraW put it, are "draining us and living like rock stars on our money", and presume to tell us how we need to live. (not to put too fine a point on it, she has it exactly goddam right.)
I don't know anything about Stephen Broden and I already know he'd be an improvement. Even if he has a hobo murder conviction. Or two.

Sestak did essentially the same thing when he was caught giving an earmark to a small atheist foundation to develop bearings for wind turbines. I say essentially because he just withdrew the earmark without taking blame -- it was all just a bureaucratic mistake.

Reflexive voting has been around for a very long time, but seeing it here in America is disheartening. How can her constituents pull the lever for her? She took money from their children -- money that was earmarked for their education.

Cooper then read her the rules that were in black and white on the very applications that she signed off on..

Why is it that these arrogant, hypocritical peckerheads believe that uttering those four magic words is supposed to be some sort of King's-X that makes them immune to the penalty for having been caught red-handed? And by penalty, I mean:
(1) eternal public shame;
(2) removal from office; and

Because we let them, that's why.
If you're an agenda-driven politician (or public figure) you have an automatic free pass from the media. Adam Clayton Powell was a master of this game, like Alcee Hastings, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Charlie Rangel, Osama Obama and a host of others too numerous to name.
Society extends a giant get-out-of-jail-free card to The Oppressed, just as it turns a blind eye to discrimination when the victims are, well, white. Imagine the alacrity with which Eric Shabazz Holder would have reacted to pale-faced thugs with clubs standing in front of a polling place.
Eddie Bernice Johnson understands the rules all too damn well.

They don't even have to do that. All he needed to say was, "you say you have taken responsibility. Taking responsibility means paying consequences for misbehavior. What penalty will you pay?" It's usually best to frame it as a question because these people are so unaccustomed to being called to account that they can't think on their feet and end up saying something that makes it even worse.

Wilson ethics probe widens
The congressional ethics investigation of U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson is broader than previously disclosed and goes well beyond his use of $12 in per diem expense money to buy six decorative goblets in Afghanistan last year.
So what does "well beyond" mean?
“The reason he was singled out was because he travels a lot on the government dime,” one source said.
OK we're back to those "unknown sources".
Since he joined Congress after a December 2001 special election, WilsonÂ’s overseas travel has cost taxpayers about $100,000 in itemized expenses, including roughly $38,000 in per diem money intended to cover meals and lodging.
Gee he ranks 29th in congressional travel. Gee 100K in expenses. That is almost as much as Nanny Nan spends on one flight to San Francisco which she does every damn week.
And where were all these trips to? Why they were vacation junkets to such garden spots as Iraq and Afghanistan that's where. He didn't go to thosem hell hole spots that other congressmen go such as Paris and London.

Father charged after daughter falls into pond
A Charleston man is charged with unlawful neglect after deputies say one of his twin daughters walked out of their home and fell into a pond while he slept.
Wow sounds like a disaster
A review of Google Earth shows this to be a small backyard "goldfish pond" probably no more than 2 feet deep.
Deputies charged Adam S. Gray, 33, with unlawful neglect by a custodian after firefighters pulled the girl from the pond and took her to a local hospital to be evaluated, the report said.
Police say the twins were able to push down a gate at the edge of the stairwell and then walk downstairs and out the back door, when one of them fell into the pond. A neighbor heard the girl's playful voice and called police.
Screams of terror while drowning??? "playful voice??? re: shew was probably splashing around and laughing.
So does neighbor go over and pull child from the pond? No, she calls the cops who probably took at least 15 minutes to get there.
Some neighbor.

Philadelphia injustice:
Philadelphia woman hears knock, shows she's armed, police confiscate gun
After her son was killed in 2008, Sherderian Sutton got a Philadelphia license to carry a concealed weapon and a small Ruger pistol to protect herself and her surviving children.
On Monday, when police knocked on her door, Sutton hoped that they were bringing the news she's waited two years to hear.
"I thought they were coming to my door to tell me they had my son's murderer," she said. "But they were coming to take me and my gun, and now I'm defenseless."
Sutton, 38, of North Philadelphia, said that her troubles began last week, when workers from Wilco Cable came to her back door to ask for permission to work in her yard.
She's never had cable, but told them that they could work through her back yard to connect her neighbors' cable. Sutton said that she also asked the workers to never use the back door again.
On Monday, Sutton said, she was awakened by incessant pounding on her back door about 8 a.m. She looked out of the window and saw two men and a woman at her back door, peering in her window.
Scared, Sutton said she grabbed her gun and held it at her side as she answered the door.
She said that she never left her house and never raised the gun. Although they had no identification tags, Sutton said that the three identified themselves as Wilco workers and again asked permission to work on her property. She granted it, but asked why they continued to knock on her back door, despite her previous requests to use the front door.
Sutton said that the workers went about their business but three hours later, about 11:25 a.m., police came to her door. She said she let them in and they went through her house - with guns drawn - even pointing them at her 14- and 16-year-old children.
She said that she was taken into custody, held for 12 hours - from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. - and that her gun and her license to carry it were taken away from her.
According to court records, Sutton, who has no record, was charged with simple assault and possessing instruments of a crime, both misdemeanors.

SC has a "Good Samaritan" law. That means you can not be sued for a good faith attempt at rescue and first aid.
Besides this was just pure common sense. If the child was in danger the logical thing would be to pull her from the "pond" then call the cops. I suspect that this neighbor probably has a history with the child's father.
Also, why in the hell did they charge the guy? If the story is accurate he did take standard precautions with the children. The court will have a hard time making a "neglect" case. The end product will be a bunch of money spent on a lawyer for no reason.

Now I moved the event to an evening before a holiday weekend, which some people said "no one would come cause they will go away but I knew they would come" so that might have accounted for the amount we raised but I can't help but wonder if previous dinner/fashion shows like this raised as much as I raised but the money somehow didn't find its way to the charity. I don't go there anymore after that thought crossed my mind.

You want to see how far Democrats are distancing themselves from Obama's "accomplishments"?
Democratic Bailout Baloney
At least five freshman Democratic House members are running ads claiming they voted against the bank "bailout," when in fact none was in Congress when the bill setting up the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP, was enacted.
* Mary Jo Kilroy says she "voted against the bank bailout."
* Kathy Dahlkemper says she voted "against a bailout that helped Wall Street."
* Frank Kratovil claims to have cast his vote in opposition to "the big bank bailout."
* Dina TitusÂ’ ad maintains she "even voted against the bank bailout."
* Glenn NyeÂ’s ad tells viewers he went "against his own party" and "voted against the Wall Street bailout."
The final House vote on the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 took place on Oct. 3, 2008. The bill passed, 263-171. None of the five lawmakers who are running these ads is listed in the roll call vote. That’s because none of them had taken office yet – in fact, none of them would even be elected for another month.
So what are they talking about?
_________
The linked article is very interesting. It explains how Castle, who voted for TARP, can claim he voted against it. He voted for a meaningless resolution after he voted for TARP.

Okay, you win, Beedubya. LOL!
I mean the whole argument is whether it is desirable to have a winner take a Senate seat, even if he's a RINO, as long as it helps get a Republican majority and you throw out Scott Brown as your defense of running O'Donnell over Castle?
Sure can't argue with the rationale that since a RINO won in a Blue State it proves a very conservative, flawed candidate should be the choice to run in another Blue State!
Sheesh.

Reinforcement of the Lago Hell motif from Ace. Sweep the state houses clean and redistrict like a sumbitch. To hell with the lawsuits over "fairness" and safe districts. I'm almost to the point of just using the grid references of longitude and latitude divided by population to get the density per square. Make them all square districts. Hell it can't be any worse, no matter who it screws.

You called them on their behavior. When someone is called out for bad behavior, they can either accept it and learn from it, or get defensive. Your friends chose the latter. What's more, you didn't even consciously call them on it. You reacted instinctively (and correctly) but they were obviously too classless to let it slide. Instead, they implicated themselves and showed their true nature.

Living with 2-3 year olds is like living with convicts bent on escape. Key bolted doors are a must have. I also recommend not oiling the squeak so you can hear if a door or screen door opens and making sure the storm is gauged so that it slams. If the gate can be pushed down, then you have to install one into the door jamb. I had one kid that I had to double gate, one on top of the other. I had to bungie cord the fridge for him too because he liked to "hatch" all my eggs.
I however agree that the neighbor wasn't concerned about the children but rather on seeking some kind of revenge. The al franken neighbor of a recent thread.
Some idiot called the cops on my 4 year old when he sprayed the hose over the fence and got a convertible wet. Cops were pissed that they had been bothered. I searched for him for days but never found him. You can throw dog shit pretty far with a lacrosse stick.

Jane:
1/2 head lettuce (you may add Romaine or spinach also) (I use romaine and butter)
1 c. chopped celery
2 green onions, chopped
1 c. drained mandarin oranges
1/4 c. candied slivered almonds
DRESSING:
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. red wine vinegar (do not substitute)
1/4 c. oil
1/2 tsp. salt & pepper
3-4 drops Tabasco sauce
To Candy Almonds: Mix 1/4 cup almonds (or more if you want to make extra, they keep well) and 2 tablespoons sugar in non-stick fry pan. Stir constantly over medium heat until sugar begins to "melt". Lower heat and stir until lightly browned. Cool and break apart.
Shake dressing before serving. Toss salad ingredients together. Add almonds. Pour dressing over just before serving.

She took money from their your children -- money that was earmarked for their education. This line should be in her opponent's campaign ad. I hope the Tea Party Express swoops down on this area and works their magic.
FIFY. Not only did she use the money for her own children, they lived outside of her district and the rules say it has to be used withing the district. To top it off, she said something like "well if there would've been anyone who deserved them in my district I would've given it to them." Each individual scholarship was only about $1,000 - she actually gave out 23 separate scholarships to her family and her staff's family. At one point she said her grandchildren weren't "immediate family."
What I find really sad is that given this behavior, nobody demands that she immediately resign. I don't think the question has even been posed to her.

HAWAIIAN BANANA NUT BREAD
3 c. all-purpose flour
3/4 t. salt
1 t. baking soda
2 c. sugar
1 t. ground cinnamon
1 c. chopped walnuts or pecans (I sometimes substitute macadamia nuts)
3 eggs, beaten
1 c. vegetable oil
2 c. mashed ripe bananas (about 4--and the key is to let them get black, literally)
1 8-ou. can crushed pineapple
2 t. vanilla extract
Combine first 5 ingredients; stir in pecans. Combine remaining ingredients; add to flour mixture, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
Spoon batter into 2 greased and floured 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 3" loafpans. Bake at 350 for 1 hour and 10 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 minutes; remove from pans, and let cool on wire racks. Yield: 2 loaves

I had started with plain hook & eye locks, but the three of them figured out that is one got on all fours, my son would stand on her and pop the lock open with a yard stick.

He is a DIABLO who is likely to switch parties at any time. Also, some of the other sites are saying that all that stuff about her being nutty and and the finances thing is a lie pushed out by the Castle camp. In addition, she HAS disowned that smear campaign that called Castle a homo.

And speaking of go, Go Brodin! Ride that wave like a 50's era beach boy aiming for Annette Funicello's, um, heart!

Kidding aside, something needs to be done with stupid voters. Most people have no clue about who or what they are voting for.
Problem 1: education system and MFM
Problem 2: ousting our elected 'betters'

As for the "people in the bushes" thing there are reports from other reputable people that there ARE people in her bushes.
They say that Castle has spent a fortune on PIs who follow her around taking pictures looking for her to screw up.

And with at least Hatch and Hutchinson likely to be primaried out in 2012, any challenger will know that the landscape will only get better next time.

That wouldn't surprise me one bit if you were saying a lib/dem did this but hearing a republican doing it...makes me a little uneasy cause it so seems to be a dem/lib tactic.

Hey, she's one of the Ruling Elite. She's entitled to apply the "Geitner Defense." It's just not for the little people, that's all.

EBJ did not do herself any favors in this unemployed (surrounded by the employed) district when she essentially said, "well, if your kids weren't so stupid, maybe I could have given it to one of them instead of my kin who don't even live in my district." She's shit where she sleeps, and I don't know if she can clean out that turd now. This is the story around here.

How sad is it that you can say such a thing in modern America? And her seat isn't safe because she is the second coming of George Washington, it is because of the power of the Democrat machine.
Even if you favor what the Democrat party stand for, how can you not kick out such scum in villainy in the primaries at least?
