— Ace I like the parentheses. It makes it classy.
The song is just plain awful, but it's the first intended "mainstream commercial" song with the f-word (in its literal sense) in the title.
I sort of thought this was going to happen, inevitably, once Cee-Lo demonstrated that one could get a major, major mainstream hit with the F word right in the title and the main chorus. (Big difference: That song's great.)
Once is innovation and novelty; twice is repetition and ripoff; three times it's hackneyed and empty and they'll have to wait a couple of years to figure out the next hot button they can push.

The song does suck, but the concept is AWESOME!!!! As long as it's not RAPE rape, it's fine.
I'm going to try that line the next time I'm at a bar and see how it goes.

I don't think it was released as a single back in the 90s, but Biggie Smalls put out "I'm Fucking You Tonight", and it got some airplay.
Of course, points are deducted for the lack of parentheses.

Parody has converged with reality.
Caricature has converged with normal.
It's over. It was nice while it lasted.

/nerd alert
Enrique could argue that it is innovative due to its use of the F word.
C-Lo's use of the word "Fuck" is meant in anger and frustration, and it doesn't carry a sexual connotation. OTOH, Enrique is using the word as a sexual verb.
/Back to your regular AOSHQ lifestyle.

O/t: Cee-Lo mashup with Radar Love:
We'll I've been drivin' all night, my hand wet on the wheel, and I'm like "Fuck you."
There's a voice in my head that drive my heel, and I'm like "Fuck you and fuck her too."
It's my baby callin', says I need you here (ain't that some shit).
And it's half past four and I'm shifting gear--with a "Fuck you."

You know what's next? I'll tell you.
"Hey, baby, I don't mean to be crass
But 'choo got a nice ass
Hey, baby, this might sound whack
But I wanna get in yo' crack
Hey baby, do me do me
Do me do me
All night, do me, all right"
See? Anybody can write crap.

Hell, it's not even going to be a "curse" word in a few years. I still get annoyed when I hear people dropping f-bombs all over stores and crap like that.
As far as autotuning, I think the eventual goal is to do away with the entertainment industry prima donnas entirely, and just hire random people to shout the lines then "tune" it until it sounds acceptable.
Can you blame them if they don't want to put up with Britney or Kanye Loser or all the other hysterical freaks?

I spent several weeks in Italy that summer, and it was in constant rotation on the radio wherever I went, in unbleeped and unedited form. The most surreal place I remember hearing it was piped into a gelato shop in Florence that was packed with tourists, many of them Americans of retirement age, who didn't seem fazed by it.

What would Tipper Gore say?
I always was a fan of W.A.S.P., though I question the wisdom of the record exec who thought "Animal (F*** like a Beast)" [note the classy parentheses] was a good idea for a debut single in 1984, ensuring the band would get no radio play. Ever.
Of course, The Who have been asking "Who the f*** are you" on the radio for thirty years.

Well Cee Lo is sort of the first name of the artist. His stage name is Cee Lo Green. So we're not doing any short cute stupid J-Lo garbage. But the "Fuck You" song he does has been posted multiple times at the HQ.

Honestly I think Cee Lo's song probably would have become a hit even if he had released the clean version first. Its a song about a bitch, and its up beat and fun. The internet popularity probably helped to propel it to popularity faster, but I don't think it actually relies on saying "fuck"

True, and I hate a lot of that "brangelina" shit too and I'm not that old. Though as far as I can tell "Fuck You"'s music could easily have been placed in the 60's for its sound. The lyrics no, but the instrumentation really brings to mind a lot of classic Mo-town music to me.

Okay but to me (and I'm not really that old either, 35) the whole concept is like a rougher, edgier Wierd Al Yankovic. We could blend old Aretha Franklin tunes with coarse lyrics all day and it would be the same idea.
