I had a conversation with my 75 year old Dad today. 

He's going to file for bankruptcy and hears tell from his FA of some 82 year old who used to be worth about $2 million but took a job at Wal-Mart and says it's a hoot.

He asked me to be on the lookout for jobs for him.

Fuck.

He has a college football injury to his knee that I know bothers him even after the "miracle" arthroscopic surgery he went through 7 years ago.

I asked him how good he is with standing for extended periods of time.

He thinks that it's no problem.  So long as he doesn't have to negotiate stairs or inclines.

I'm calling bullshit.  I've had jobs where I had to stand 4-12 hours, in the same place, at a stretch, in my 20's.

It starts to hurt, cumulatively.

Older I got, longer it took to recover.

How do I even help him write a resume?

I don't think he's had a "job" for like 15 years or so.

I'm going to push more for him being a CSR than a greeter at Wall-Mart for these reasons.

Yeah, canned is usually worse than fresh or frozen but...

Argument doesn't apply when it comes to any tomato product, frozen spinach or frozen peas.

Why not lay in a supply of lentils or Basmati rice that you fully intend to cook with canned chicken-stock rather than plain tap-water, sometime in the next 3 years...

(Me, I insist upon sweating a finely minced shallot in some hot oil before I introduce my Basmati for a quick toast, and pour some chicken stock over it to steam for 20 min. or so...  But I'm picky.)

You don't have to look too hard to find it at less than 60 cents per can on any given week, somewhere...

Mayo (another expense!) is kind of helpful for water packed tuna but I'll have to say I've not been too unhappy with my efforts into tuna salad that include oil-packed , prepared horseradish, lemon juice and liberal parsely on black-bread!

(Still a believer in tuna + mayo + sweet relish = AWESOME!)

It went into the general fund just like all the other money. That was the first suit in that they were way past the original due date. The government lost that one too. What money did not get to Yucca got spent on shit like Pigford.

Now they just halted it all together.

Our current generation of nukes are classified as "converters" because they already do that. U-238 undergoes fast capture and then decays to Pu which is then fissile. 

At the end of three cycles a large portion of the power comes from Pu. The Thorium fuel cycle would likely be too expensive as the percentage of fertile material in Th is very very small.
