25 Ugh, I live in Markey's district. In the Denver Post, she claimed that her vote changed because she had read the entire bill and realized how much it would benefit her constituents. I don't know what was worse weasel-face's blatant lie or the moron reporter who did not question it. The district is historically a Republican one so she is toast come November.

Job market isn't getting any better, and that is an understatement.  Prices on things are already starting to go up to reflect the increasing price of gas.  People are already complaining about more money being taken out of their paychecks in the FICA.  With VAT, cap/trade, amnesty all on the docket -- well, I don't think people are just going to forget this healthcare bill.  They might forget it in the sense that it all starts to blend together with the rest, like little tributaries flowing into the big river that empties into the vast sea of suckitude, but they aren't going to forget the suckitude.

Ironically, people were starting to forget prior to the healthcare passing, at least around here, because we were heading into spring and retail sales were actually up.  That has done at least a 90 degree turn, heading to 180, with the gas prices going up almost on cue with the bill passage.  Now everyone but the true believers are back in a foul mood (and people in bad moods in the spring is a rarity).  It is even affecting some of the welfare folks -- some of them do hold jobs; jobs that don't pay much but still jobs -- they are taking a hit.  Jobs lost, hours cut, paycheck getting more taken out, and their food card money doesn't go as far (nor are they getting as good medical service).  The number of people who have shown up at the local recruiters is at an all time high -- but the recruiting is being choosier about who they take now than 5 years ago, so no joy for them there.  We have a lot of unemployed high school graduates who can't afford college, can't get a job, can't get enlisted, and Mommy and Daddy can't really afford to keep them either.

This summer could turn nasty, but that's a redundant statement -- this fall and winter could become evil, how's that?

The thing is, a lot of the "reality" stats are in the BLS report too--things like unemployment length, average salary, average hours worked, etc.  One can cut through a lot of media hype just by examining the stats outside of the U-3.

One interesting thing from the most recent report is the effect of the census workers, combined with "weather" and "birth-death" numbers--when those are taken out, the economy actually lost 67,000 jobs.

Even the lefty commenters on the financial blogs I read (zerohedge, Market Ticker, Calculated Risk, etc.) have gotten fed up with what they perceive to be government propogated BS on the economic "recovery".  They see the metrics and Bernanke's shell game and are getting rather pissed that the media keep trumping recovery when we aren't anywhere near where we were three-four years ago.  If the media were being remotely honest about the economy, they'd be pointing out that stabilization after two years of cratering does not equal a presumed recovery to previous economic levels--particularly when the primary factor that caused the depression, over-leveraging across all economic sectors, has not been cleared from the system and the government is spending nearly 1/3 of its GDP a month in debt just to keep the patient from bleeding out.
