Field Poll: Campbell Pulling Ahead of Fiorina, DeVore
— Gabriel Malor

A poll released today has Tom Campbell at 28 percent, Carly Fiorina at 22 percent, and Chuck DeVore at 9 percent among likely GOP voters. The remaining 40 percent or so are undecided. This echoes other recent polls showing Campbell pulling ahead of his competitors.

The poll also put the candidates up against Boxer:

In hypothetical matchups for the Nov. 2 general election, the poll found Campbell leads Boxer 44 percent to 43 percent, Boxer leads Fiorina 45 percent to 44 percent, and she leads DeVore 45 percent to 41 percent. The general election matchups have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.

Fifty-nine percent said they had no opinion of Campbell, compared to 58 percent for Fiorina and 78 percent for DeVore.

I've been pretty pessimistic about knocking Boxer out of her seat and I still think her support will come back once the general election season hits full swing. Obama will be fundraising and stumping for Boxer, while our GOP guys have visibility issues.

Later: Yeah, that's the problem with blogging while semi-conscious. Things like spelling and punctuation go bye-bye. I have corrected some loose shit in this post. Thanks.

I love Carly's crazy campaign ads.  The latest one showing Boxer as a giant Orwellian hot-air filled teleprompter made me laugh.

3 Obama will be campaigning for Boxer? She might as well resign now.

6 If Campbell share's DeVore's pro-nuclear power stance (DeVore is endorsed by Kirk Sorenson - thoriumenergy.blogspot.com), none of this is bad news.  I'd give Carly massive props if she helps Campbell with ads after the primary.

The problem with Campbell is that he is anti-Israel.

He also has a "history" with that professor in Florida who raised money for terrorists and has lied about it.  Very bothersome.

8 Tom Campbell, beating stupid biotches since 2010.

CA should vote for a turd before they send Boxer back.

This is about flushing Boxer.  She's an entrenched uber-left career politician who needs to be purged.

10 He will be fundraising for her. I'm sure he can still raise jack. I doubt he will be doing any rallies for her.

11 Oh come on, it is 90% name recognition at this point.   None of the three have spent real money on ads so far so a general state survey is predominately of the ignorant.

Campbell has been working the state for decades and is the only one with state-wide positioning and name recognition.

Still, the primary is June 8th so real campaigning has to kick in quickly.

DeVore is my first choice and I could easily volunteer for Campbell but Carly?  She's a sure loser - I'd devote my energies to the governor's race.

12 Tell me the one that has the best chance at beating Boxer in the fall and that is who I'll vote for in the primary.

13 What's so bad about jihadis?

14 I don't really see what's so bad about Carly.  I think it's sexism: she just LOOKS like she should be a Democrat.  But she's actually more conservative than Campbell, for one.

And man, I LOVE her ads.  Demon Sheep, the Babs Blimp....can't wait to see what comes next.  Everybody made fun of that Demon Sheep ad, but I'm beginning to think there was some method to the madness.

15 Personally:

I'd love to see DeVore take it, personally.  I think he's good. Can he make the sale to the 15% of Democrats he'd need in November?   Maybe.

Campbell has the best shot with disaffected Democrats and independents.   He's been visible in the state for a long time and isn't particularly threatening.  I'd bet he could beat Boxer by 8 points in November.

Fiorina, meh.  Anything's better than Boxer, of course.

DeVore is the only true Conservative in this race.  Fiorina almost wrecked HP and Campbell is pro-Terrorist, anti-Israel and anti-gun.

The choice couldn't be more clear.

The problem with Campbell is that he is anti-Israel.

I'm sorry, but this attack by the Fiorina camp comes across as a smear. Yes, Campbell shook hands with someone who later turned out to be a no-good jihadist, and that is regrettable. But the real problem with Campbell is that he is a RINO, three time loser, go along to get along, Republican putz. He took on Feinstein and went down easily.

DeVore is the best real Republican, but lacks the war chest.

Fiorina is saying all the right things, but those of us in Sillyclone Valley who remember the Decline And Fall Of The Hewlett-Packard Empire are not happy with her.

I didn't get this from anything Fiorina put out.

From Jennifer Rubin at Commentary:

In 1999, he introduced an amendment to cut foreign aid to Israel. This amendment, titled the Campbell Amendment, was defeated overwhelmingly on the House floor by a vote of 13-414. In 1999, Campbell was one of just 24 House members to vote against a resolution expressing congressional opposition to the unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state. In 1997, Rep. Tom Campbell authored an amendment (also titled the Campbell Amendment) to cut foreign aid to Israel. The resolution failed 9-32 in committee. In 1990, Campbell was one of just 34 House members to vote against a resolution expressing support for Jerusalem as IsraelÂ’s capital.  The resolution passed the House 378-34.

His defense was pretty lame regarding the aid cut.  "Its taking money from Africa!"

There is also an article at David Howowitz's site, frontpagemag.com, entitled "Tom Campbell's Troubling Ties", that says he did more than shake Al-Arian's  hand.
