Not going to vote early, despite pleas from Marco.  There is something special about election day.  This one will be extra special, complete with standing in the parking lot after voting and sipping on a Slurpee.

125 I wouldn't have thought much about it till the sticker. I moved last to middle for a few years then slowly dropped the maiden name. It's much easier when you have children. It's weird to have to explain to everyone who you are in relation to your own kid. Confuses the hell out of the kids too.

Yeah, I only say pedantic because ultimately doesn't matter as it seems that 'hari kari' has become a loan word that most US speakers understand despite being a bit mangled.

130 So I strike up a friendship with another mom whose son is on my son's football team. Turns out she's about 6 years older than me but went to the same tiny girls' prep school that I went to. We had a wonderful time calling up old teachers and friends and remarking how the school had grown and changed. Then she shows up with an "equal pay for equal work" sticker. Then, through and email I see she kept her last name. Then under the hat I discover a rachel maddow hair cut. I'm thinking, well, she might be a lib. Too bad really, because now I'm uncomfortable. I have only tossed one couple. They were hyper-politically-correct euro-trash who lectured me in my own house about how Israel is a bad country and how downtrodden the palis are (I'm half Israeli). I kept my mouth shut for the sake of my wife (they are her friends). But the next time they came over I hammered them on GWT and how much more important it was than global cooling warming climate change. The example I used to freak them out was that the hypothetical far-in-the-future deaths of Bangladeshis who live on a flood plain is less important than the very real deaths of 3,000 Americans on September 11th. They were shocked at my attitude and told my wife that they would prefer not to associate with me. Needless to say, it was no great loss.

132 I hypenated mine after a near brush with identity- not really theft, more like so many as to be really confusing- because my husband's last name was as common as bluegrass seed in Kentucky years ago when we first got married. (its probably worse now)

Took some beer and vodka, kvetched to my stepmom about how stupid people are, passed out, then woke up and went to work. 139 In defense of all those liberals who went into depression after Bush won re-election in 04 and called their friends and whined about it - I know the feeling. I used to be a liberal back then - and i can tell you one thing - what "we" felt came from a 1000% conviction that the country made a huge mistake re-electing Bush.

But that was 6 long years back -  i was 28 and did not know any better. I now say a prayer every time i think that John Kerry could have been President if not for Ohio !!

Long story short - since i have been the liberal side of the fence i can relate to the 100% certainty that liberals have in their opinions on just about anything. This is exactly why NPR came down hard on Juan Williams IMMEDIATELY after the comments he made - in effect he was saying that he did not have 100% certainty in core liberal dogma.

I cannot wait for the Rats to get clobbered on Tuesday.

140 The "Dunning-Kruger Effect" gets a new name every year, I think. Ten years ago I was calling it "The 12% rule" because it was said that if someone's competency in a subject was below the 12th percentile (88% of the population score higher), they lose the ability to judge their own competence and (frequently) declare themselves to be much more competent than they actually are.

I called them "12%'ers," you call them Progressives.
