— Ace Laura is giddy with schadenfreude and recalled this old psychiatric diagnosis.
Are you ready for PESTS 2?
The symptoms vary region to region and person to person, but the general diagnosis is the same: severe disorientation, melancholy, a need to be around like-minded others and a lingering fear that the country is going to hell in a handbasket.Howard Menger, a film technician in New York, woke up with PESTS on the Wednesday after the election. He called his old friend Jerry in Ohio, who'd been the best man at his wedding, and left this message:
"Just calling to make sure, for the sake of me and my family and people around the world, that you didn't vote for Bush yesterday. Give me a call and reassure me."
By Sunday, he hadn't heard back. "I have a gut feeling," he says, "that it might be the end of a 10-year friendship."
Thanks to rdbrewer and I think someone, here's another sydrome we should be aware of:
The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which an unskilled person makes poor decisions and reaches erroneous conclusions, but their incompetence denies them the metacognitive ability to realize their mistakes.[1] The unskilled therefore suffer from illusory superiority, rating their own ability as above average, much higher than it actually is, while the highly skilled underrate their abilities, suffering from illusory inferiority. This leads to the situation in which less competent people rate their own ability higher than more competent people. It also explains why actual competence may weaken self-confidence: because competent individuals falsely assume that others have an equivalent understanding. "Thus, the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others."[2]
That's kind of half the problem with liberals in both office and the media, right there.

Til then, they'll keep voting like drones who feel morally superior for electing "spread the wealth around" charmers like Bigears.

"The Dunning–Kruger effect"
This is why Obama, Reid and Pelosi assumed that all they had to do to fix the economy was pass the "stimulus" bill. They believed that they were super-competent and super-powerful, and that no hard work beyond that legislative effort would be needed.
By contrast, conservatives believe that no bureaucrat is competent enough to fix the economy, and that fixing it takes the hard work of lots of highly competent, highly motivated entrepreneurs and workers. Thus they focus on getting the bureaucrats and their power to tax and regulate out of the way.

Naw, 10% of their problem at most. If half of the problem was that they thought they were more competent than they are, it wouldn't explain all the premeditated lying and cheating they do.

I think that PESTS2 has already set in.
Actually, I see it more as Kubler-Ross's five stages of grief for the lost majority. We've already blown past Denial ("these teabaggers going to drive voters away from the Republican Party") and Anger ("who are the retards running the Democrat campaign?"). We're somewhere in between Bargaining ("if we can just get Crist and Murkowski, we can keep the Senate") and Depression.
The trouble with Leftards is that they never reach Acceptance.

We just told DD#3 to find her voter registration card so that we can take her with us on Tuesday when we vote (she just turned 18, so this will be her 1st election).
Being a typical teenager, she was grousing about it; kept saying she didn't want to vote this year; asking why she needed to vote, because she was SURE that enough people were already going to vote for.....
She stopped in mid-sentence, because her brain figured it out.
She went to find her registration card -

Both of my parents are strong conservatives with libertarian leanings.
Whenever I see them, they're all worked up about something they've read or heard on Rush or Glenn Beck.
A couple of weeks ago, my mother asked me which blogs I liked to read. I told her Ace of Spades was my only daily must-read.
She stopped by last week and said, "I went on that Ace blog you like. I just laughed and laughed."
She's 70.
Then she asked which name i comment under and I'm thinking, "Shit. First of all, it's a stupid name. And secondly, I'm tossing words like fart-box and scrunt around pretty regularly."
Then I just figured, ahhh fuck it. She already knows all about my chronic jackassery. She's seen it first hand more times than I can count.
So I came clean.
Hi, mom.

Ah, sorry to nitpick you to death, but it's not the drawdown of oxygen that drives the human respiratory urge, it's the buildup of carbon dioxide.
I know this because of my longtime interest in methods of execution, and the article I wrote proposing nitrogen asphyxiation. Put the bastard in a chamber, replace the regular air with pure nitrogen, and he'll keep breathing out the CO2 without breathing in O2. He won't notice any discomfort or suffocating sensation -- he'll just pass out, and then croak. No needles, no drugs, no poisons, no blood.

I love yanking their chains and do it at every opportunity. Why would I ruin a perfectly good form of entertainment?
I have only tossed one couple. They were hyper-politically-correct euro-trash who lectured me in my own house about how Israel is a bad country and how downtrodden the palis are (I'm half Israeli). I kept my mouth shut for the sake of my wife (they are her friends). But the next time they came over I hammered them on GWT and how much more important it was than global cooling warming climate change. The example I used to freak them out was that the hypothetical far-in-the-future deaths of Bangladeshis who live on a flood plain is less important than the very real deaths of 3,000 Americans on September 11th. They were shocked at my attitude and told my wife that they would prefer not to associate with me. Needless to say, it was no great loss.

Long story short - since i have been the liberal side of the fence i can relate to the 100% certainty that liberals have in their opinions on just about anything. This is exactly why NPR came down hard on Juan Williams IMMEDIATELY after the comments he made - in effect he was saying that he did not have 100% certainty in core liberal dogma.
