"Foreign Nexus" In Attempted Times Square Bombing
— Ace

I'm thinking they're from Teabagistan.

The guy who threatened South Park was in Times Square that night, shouting Teabagger slogans through a bullhorn, like "Where's the birth certificate?"

A Queens Islamic group that warned the creators of "South Park" of retaliation for lampooning the Prophet Muhammed denied involvement Sunday in the Times Square bomb plot.

Younus Abdullah Muhammed, who runs the Web site RevolutionMuslim.com, said he was in Times Square at the time the car bomb was discovered, but he insisted he was not involved in the botched bombing.

"What do you think, I commanded somebody to blow up a building in the middle of Times Square?" a testy Muhammed told the Daily News.

NYPD detectives are looking into whether the attempted bombing is linked to a warning issued last month by the Revolution Muslim group against the Comedy Central animators.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said detectives have not ruled out a connection between the Queens group and the Saturday terror scare outside the headquarters of Viacom, which owns Comedy Central.

"It had nothing to do with the 'South Park' controversy. It was not an attack targeting Viacom," Muhammed said.

He seems awfully sure of the bombers' intended target for someone who wasn't involved at all. But then, these people (and I use that word advisedly) are extraordinarily arrogant in their certainty about a great many things (without any objective reason to possess such arrogance).

Security cameras caught a second man running from the car.

For what it's worth, I don't think the guy they catch on tape there is behaving particularly suspiciously. I think he's just a guy.

Allah thinks it's evidence against a jihadist attack that this was apparently so amateurish. I don't really see it that way-- sure, it seems (as of now) like they didn't have a lot of technical know-how, so we can conclude they probably didn't get much expert advice from someone else, but that could just be a case of badly executing poorly-understood directions.

If ANYONE has practice building and using car bombs, I'll bet the jihadists have extra credit in that activity; hence the substance of the "amateurish" so it must be done by anti-American Muslims argument doesn't hold water.

Besides, "amateurish" is Obama's claim to fame. And it really looks like the perfect distraction from Obama's Gulf of Mexico BP fiasco. Followed Fred Thompson today raking Obama through the oil for not implementing the FEDERAL PLAN in place for decades to immediately burn off oil spills/leaks BEFORE allowing the oil to come ashore.

Half the reason we haven't had another 9-11 is because these guys are uneducated jack-asses. So the fact it didn't blow up makes it much more likely these guys were involved.

Like it's evidence that the Ft. Hood shootings weren't a jihadist attack because Major Hasan used handguns and not a fully-automatic weapon or grenades.  Look at the attempted propane-tank bombings in the UK, at the airport in Scotland and the nightclub district in London: the ineptitude of the bombmakers is a hallmark of volunteer jihadists.

70 Compare and contrast.

The evidence against that wingnut Christian extremist militia:

""I think we gotta just start huntin' 'em here pretty soon. ... They're easy to find, they're sittin' alongside the road and they got these red and blue lights on top of their car," Stone tells five others and the undercover agent.

Michael Meeks, 40, of Manchester, Mich., replied: "It's like a Kmart super special or whatever."

At another point, Stone says he knows where four officers live and "we can go burn their house down." Laughter follows.

At times, they imitate the noise of guns and talk about poison, strippers, Chinese troops and United Nations forces — people in "magical blue helmets." But they don't refer to specific people they might be targeting." "

The evidence against Revolution Muslim's Muhammad is stated in this thread.

Muhammad made a specific threat against specific people and a bomb is attempted to be exploded near that location versus drunken morons making general statements about someday targeting police generally for unknown reasons.  The Christians are cooling their heels in jail awaiting trial.  Muhammad is stirring up hate on his website.

In his case and in the case of the PantyBomber, the bomb was very professional, but the person carrying the bomb was a bumbling fool.  Had the jihadists used more competent people to carry the bombs or had they drilled Reid and Abdulmetallab in the proper ignition procedure, those attacks would have succeeded spectacularly.

Or the difference between the symbolic violence of the peaceful protesters in Santa Cruz who merely smashed windows and set fires and the actual violence of the TEA Party protesters in Washington, DC, who allegedly directed hurtful words towards Congressmen.

~60 fines or so were issued at about $950 each to students involved. The MAN actually cares about the truth; the media, not so much.

104 The White Man is obviously to blame. His exploitation of the peace-loving swarthy Muslims has incited them to violence, a cycle of despair and anger which is not their fault. Damn you, White Man.

It's not that easy to sabotage something a mile below the surface of the ocean.

Also, the expected half-life of a jihadi on an offshore rig could be measured in milliseconds.

As I recall, the initial explosion & fire happened up on the platform. The wellhead was damaged by the later collapse and sinking of the platform.

Allah thinks...

Can we change this, in the future, to something like "Pillow Talk Suggests", or "Romantic Banter Indicates".

Thanks.

How weak is the Islam religion that you feel cartoons threaten it? Weak minded, let's just use Jedi mind tricks on then.

110 Attention oil rig sabotage theorists: you are postulating technical and tactical competence far beyond what Jihad Johnny is actually capable of. In your mind's eye, do you REALLY see a superbly trained and fit team of goatfuckers slithering up the superstructure of a rig 100 miles from shore?

Lemme guess - they HALO jumped from 30,000 feet into the water, swam five miles to plant the charges, and then exfiltrated on one of the many, many Al-Qaeda SpecOps submarines at their disposal.

Please stop it. It isn't pretty to watch you do this to yourself.

111 Allah thinks it's evidence against a jihadist attack that this was apparently so amateurish. I don't really see it that way-- sure, it seems (as of now) like they didn't have a lot of technical know-how, so we can conclude they probably didn't get much expert advice from someone else, but that could just be a case of badly executing poorly-understood directions.

The crotch-bomber seemed pretty amateurish as well.  Just because you have expertise in an organization doesn't mean you have expertise where you need it.  It may just be that the people with teh mad car bombing skillz can't get into the US.

"Tell me again why we're ruling out sabotage/terrorism in the oil rig explosion? Wouldn't the prudent thing to do to not rule anything out?"

We're also ruling out asteroids, Godzilla, and travelers from an alternate universe, just so you know that it isn't just one thing.

113 I would expect the problem with a poor design from groups that have a lot of experience in these things to be due to poor communications.  They know they can't use any format the US could eavesdrop on, so it's a huge game of telephone as the expert in Iraq tells X to build it this way, X passes it Y, Y passes it to Z till it gets to the guy with a craigslist account.  Plus as an international group there may be actual language difficulties.

114 In his case and in the case of the PantyBomber, the bomb was very professional, but the person carrying the bomb was a bumbling fool.... those attacks would have succeeded spectacularly. Ohh get-the-fuck-out; you sound ridiculous. The pantybomber used PETN/TAPN; an actual high-explosive; more than that, it's a well done explosive mixture which could cause significant damage to an already stressed airframe. This NYC moron bought a few propane tanks and attached a few firecrackers you can legally buy in some grocery stores and called it a bomb. I'm sure he trained watching a Michael Bay movie. It's not a high-explosive. His "sugar-nitrate" would have been more harmful if he would have made gingerbread cookies out of.The "M-88" charge isn't strong enough to rupture the propane tank, I've had them go off in my hand before; it's still there preforming little microsurgeries. And a propane tank is a horrible bomb; it needs a huge energy influx to rupture and even then it's just pressurized gas; it's not properly mixed with oxygen to form an explosive mist. This was a bomb for morons;l which fits the Muslim description. Send this asshole to gitmo where he can head-up baking classes with his sugar-nitrate. * Youtube of M-88 firecracker (http://tinyurl.com/26tzw8y)

115 Boy, am I ever getting tired of reading "the Prophet Muhammed" in news reports. Funny, I can't recall ever reading "Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior" used in a news report but they've all been using "the Prophet Muhammed" re. South Park and in the past. Mind you, I suppose I should at least be happy that they're not using the PBUH shit. (I vaguely recall the BBC was doing that a while ago, but I can't recall for certain.)
