Fox News has learned that Charlie Crist has decided and plans to announce that he is running as an Independent for the U.S. Senate. The official announcement is scheduled at 5pm in St. Petersburg, Florida tomorrow.Remember...this is the type of Republican David Frum says we should support.Crist has said that under no circumstance would he drop out of the race, saying he will do what is best for the voters of Florida. Crist says Republicans in Washington want him to stay in the Republican party but voters in Florida have told him they want him to run as an Independent.
Oh, and great work John Cornyn. You're a real savvy talent scout.
Update - This is as good a chance as any to show Rubio some love: Flip the Switch. (via Hot Air)
Update II - "The word is out."
Crist is telling key financial backers that he's running for senate with no party affiliation. The announcement is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Straub Park in downtown St Petersburg.I hope some of those financial backers ask for their money back.
Only one problem with that, though...

The RNC should make Crist its #1 target. Something along the lines of "Crucify Crist in November"

He tied himself to Obama originally, but if he is trying to save Obamanomics, there is a Democrat candidate.
He also walked back his slobbering love affair with Obama, but if he thinks FL need a senator willing to take on Obama, well, they will have Rubio.

look at Romney, the best speech he ever gave was his concession speech at CPAC. Now he is the front runner for the republican primaries. sometime falling on your sword can benefit you in the long run.
Now, if he loses he will destroy any chance of ever winning office again. Also, good luck running as an outsider when their are pictures of you hugging barack obama, who represents what is wrong with washington to most americans.

The question is, what exactly is Crist thinking?
Does he think that he can actually win?
Does he just want to be a "spoiler", hoping for a buy-off later?
Or is just so blinded by ego, he can't let it go?
Note that the three theories aren't mutually exclusive.
Also, where is Crist going to get his funding from? His campaign may well fizzle based on that alone.

we really expect Cornyn to be clairvoyant enough to forsee how things would change so quickly?
Yes.
I was. Rubio was in the race first. He had (has) a ton of charisma and was something of a rising star.
Crist jumps his squish ass in later the NRSC decides the bequeath the senate run to him. His quantity as a squish opportunist was well known. The height of his popularity was the height of Obama's popularity, when he was polishing Obama's knob.

Marco Rubio did not criticize the new legislation in Arizona. To the contrary, what he said, in effect, was that the legislation enabled the enforecement of already existing Federal laws which are not being enforced, and/or that Arizona was forced to take the law into their own hands, because the Federal Government was lax on enforcing its laws.
Read the transcript of what Rubio said, or at least listen to the interview in which he clearly and unambiguously stated his position on that issue.
Rubio is one savvy guy. He is not going to jeopardize his popularity by making statements which sour the opinions of conservatives. Question the motives and the credibility of his critics. The guy is a straight-shooter. He doesn't vacilate on issues.

As for Rubio not questioning the AZ law I guess it reminds me of my own advice. Don't believe anything bad you hear about a conservative candidate unless you verify it first.

My appreciation for Reagan is large, but let's not forget that it was on his watch that the first Great Amnesty took place, that Iran got away with holding our hostages for more than a year, that the Marine Barracks in Beirut were bombed with no response from us, and the Grenada comic-opera took place. He was a great man and did the country a lot of good, but there's a lot of hagiography about the man as well. Yes, he had to deal with a Democrat congress; but still, his foreign-policy especially was less forceful than it should have been.
Even Abraham Lincoln, whom I love dearly and think is one of the greatest men in the history of the world, had his faults. He deferred to his generals too much, was prone to depressions that prohibited decisive action on his part, and tended to stay out of the mix until disaster forced his hand. He learned to be decisive, but almost too late to save the situation.

And to the idiot-a frum types that say it's not big tent to ditch these fucks, FUCK you; the reason we have lost so much in the party is exactly because we have become TOO "big tent". That's the point. Americans by in large are not 'center' or 'left' they are conservative. Juan McC., Crist, Bush's last ditches toward the middle, and many others are examples. Run a conservative platform and you can win.

You mean some other than the embassy hostages right?
The hostages were released on the day Reagan took office, but he never retaliated against the Iranians apart from imposing wholly-useless sanctions. The Revoltuionary Guards barracks and the HQ should have been reduced to rubble that very day. (Caspar Weinberger talked Ron out of it, probably, just as he did in the Beirut bombing case. Caspar was a great one for seeing tigers in every corner, and advising Reagan to keep away from them.)
About the only real military response was the Libya bombing in retaliation for the bombing of the Berlin dischotheque. (To little avail, as Khadafy's involvement in the 1988 Lockerbie airline bombing made clear.)

six hostages held by Hezboalldouche
Oh, hell, there were probably eight or ten high-profile hostage crises during the Reagan years. El Savador, Panama, Cyprus, Turkey -- I can remember quite a few not even in the Middle East. The Shining Path in Peru, Red Brigades and Black Tuesday in Europe, Baader-Meinhof, and of course the PLO. Everybody was on a hostage-taking binge in the 1980's. This was before the terrorists just said "fuck it" and decided to just blow everything up.

Jim DeMint didn't fall for the Crist trap. How is that?

But he might fall into the Rand Paul trap.

I think the carotenous Crist will drain alot of Dem votes from Meek. they're not all hard left. Crist already started playing that hand by vetoing the recent bill attacking teachers' tenure and other bennies.

Cornyn voted for the smart latina and the tax cheater turbo Timmy. A host of other crappy votes too. Him and Kay Bee seem to tag team on dissappointing votes like 'I'll vote for this crap, and next time you vote for the crap so we only vote for crap half the time.'

Remember...this is the type of Republican David Frum says we should support.
Well, in Frum's defense, Crist is probably his lover.
