— Ace That was on Fox, so no link yet. But Clyburn, the Democratic Whip, is no longer saying he doesn't have the votes yet. He's saying instead that by Sunday he will.
That, of course, is precisely what you'd expect him to say, whether he has the votes or not. He (and Pelosi, and Obama, and etc.) need to convince people this is inevitable.
Still, it's worth noting the change in tune:
"I feel very sure that we will vote sometime after 2 o'clock on Sunday and the bill will pass," Democratic Representative James Clyburn, the top House vote-counter, told reporters.
...Clyburn said he and his lieutenants were trying to educate about two dozen publicly undecided Democrats on the benefits of the overhaul. He said they picked up a valuable tool when budget analysts gave the bill a good grade.
...
"There are five or six people who have concerns over here, six or 12 who have concerns over there -- there is no one thing," Clyburn said.
A business lobbyist pushing against the deal and tracking the votes said on condition of anonymity: "Our count is that they are still four short. But they are going to get there."
CNN: Cao Back on the Fence. As Tweeted by KLopez.
In an email, DrewM. points out Cao's district is +25D. He only won because he followed William "Cold Cash" Jefferson. He is extremely unlikely to hold the seat and will then, presumably, need to run in some other, more Republican-leaning district.
Does he really want to throw his career away?
If the votes for this, he might as well make it official and become a Democrat.
I've Got A Bad Feeling About Jason Altmire: Jason Altmire was on all the cable stations two days ago talking about how undecided he was, and how he was opposed to this, that, and the other thing.
I initially took that as good news, but now I'm thinking he just wanted to get on the air to make a big show about being torn about this vote so when he does vote for it, as he plans to do, he can claim that at least he took a long time pondering it and all that crap.
Just One Vote Shy? Boccieri's No-to-Yes was apparently vote 215, according to FoxNews' count.

In fact, look at his quote about "six or twelve who have concerns over there". The way I read that is that they're down as many as twelve votes -- and that those are just the ones the Whip is admitting to.
They ain't got the votes.

drudge memo
Democrats are planning to introduce legislation later this spring that would permanently repeal annual Medicare cuts to doctors, but are warning lawmakers not to talk about it for fear that it will complicate their push to pass comprehensive health reform. The plans undercut the partyÂ’s message that reform lowers the deficit, according to a memo obtained by POLITICO.
Democrats removed the so-called doc fix from the reform legislation last year because its $371-billion price tag would have made it impossible for Democrats to claim that their bill reduces the deficit. Republicans have argued for months that by stripping the doc fix from the bill, Democrats were playing a shell game.
Basically, this is an admission that the numbers the Democrats submitted to the CBO were entirely false, and that they plan to make this bill a deficit expander in the spring. It’s a breathtaking admission of deceit and hypocrisy — and its exposure should have the media asking more questions about that CBO scoring and putting Democrats in the hot seat over it.

I think the Cao thing originated with TPM recycling some old news and passing it to CNN. Nothing has changed.
Also, mandatory Dem meeting on Saturday. MSNBC running a crawl that vote may be delayed from Sunday if they don't have the votes. May be idle speculation on their part, but interesting nonetheless.

Paul Ryan says its a coin toss. The dems only need 50% of undecideds to get it. Republicans need 7 of the undecided to defeat it.
They don't want to win with only one vote. Winning by 2 or 3 would be better. They also have to be careful because everybody is watching them.

And the proper response if that happens is to immediately focus on repealing it. Do not accept the paradigm that an entitlement in place can not be undone. Even if that's always been the case before, it can no longer be presumed.
They'll expect everyone to drop it come Monday, with the added perk of Republicans/conservatives being demoralized.
What they will need, instead, is a good, firm slap in the face over and over and over and over until this thing is undone.
Just as the Democrats spent the entire Bush presidency shrieking about the faux-outrage of the day, we will need to spend the rest of Obama's presidency shrieking about the unlawfulness of what he has done to the healthcare system.
That's the absolute minimum we'll need. Burning up the phone lines in DC will have to become commonplace, as well.
Our objections cannot end even if they ram this through. We will have to out-Code Pink Code Pink. We'll have to be more Sheehan than Cindy Sheehan.

Nope, by then Louisiana will have lost a congressional seat to redistricting. Thanks to the Voting Rights Act, though, the state will have to fool around with the lines of the other remaining five districts, but will have to leave Cao's seat basically as it is. That's why it's the N.O. seat or nothing for Cao, assuming he survives that long: the other five seats will all have incumbent Republicans playing musical chairs to see who gets left standing.

You are slightly clueless, aren't you?
Yeah, their careers go down and maybe Obama doesn't get re-elected.
He's still one of the most transformational U.S. Presidents in history, having transformed the American people from a culture of independence to a culture of dependence on government every time they have a particularly large boil.
No future President or Congress, Democrat or Republican, will have either the will or the votes to "check" nationalized healthcare. It will be the norm.
A norm your country can't afford. The President and Congress will be concerned with the health problems of their electorate as much or more than other normal affairs of government. The great U.S. power will decline.
But hey, what does that matter? You'll enjoy the excitement of some electoral gains for a few years... until the socialists become the norm for the now weakened, dependant electorate... so much the norm that socialism grows within the GOP as well, necessary for its very survival.

That, of course, is precisely what you'd expect him to say, whether he has the votes or not. He (and Pelosi, and Obama, and etc.) need to convince people this is inevitable.
Or maybe...thats what they want us to think, knowing that we will probably assume their bluffing about what they think we are thinking about...I think.

whoa - NRO corner -
The Big Lie [Yuval L]
If the leaked memo obtained by Politico this afternoon is for real, it is an absolutely astonishing example of brazen and unashamed dishonesty—amazing even for Congress. It simply proves the case conservatives have been making about the Democrats’ fiscal claims, and it shows the Democratic leadership is knowingly lying and telling members to avoid getting into debates that might reveal the facts.
The memo basically says to Democratic staff and members: as you know, we won’t actually keep health-care costs deficit neutral because the extremely expensive “doc fix” will come later this spring, but we don’t want that talked about right now so that we can get fiscally conservative Democrats to vote for the bill, so just pretend it doesn’t exist.
ItÂ’s hard to see how the Blue Dogs could still stomach the bill after this. ItÂ’s perfectly clear theyÂ’re being played for suckers."

I think they don't buy the idea of 'undecided' Democrats and I think they have a point. At this time if they are undecided they are likely a YES vote. I suspect a few of the so-called NO voters will bail as well.
Undecided is the new yes. Didn't you get the memo?

You can beat your breasts, rend your garments, bounce off the walls, and start digging America's grave all you want. When you're done doing that, you'll find you're in the exact same position you were in when you started. There is still plenty of work to be done and plenty of congresscritters' phones to be melted.
I'm from Massachusetts. Amongst my friends on Facebook, the only people I saw come out for Martha Coakley were academics, bohemians, or government employees. They were far outnumbered by hard-working men and women from all walks of life who supported Scott Brown full-throatedly. It's anecdotal evidence, admittedly, and really only representative of my circle of friends. But the point remains.
They are sick of being overtaxed. They are sick of the pork. They are sick of the handouts. They are sick of the graft. They are sick of the sweetheart state pensions. They are sick of the deficits. They are sick of being ignored by their representatives. They are sick of being at the mercy of social planners, who, by virtue of their Master's in Public Administration alone, "know" exactly what's "best" for everybody, whether everybody actually benefits or not.
The Democrats may yet taste our tears, but I'll bet dollars to donuts we'll be tasting theirs in November. But that can only happen when we do everything humanly possible to get the message out that this bill and the mindset that created it will cause critical damage to this country and put it even deeper in the hole.
In the end, though, whatever happens on Sunday, America will still exist on Monday, lethargic Eeyores be damned. Even if this bill passes (and it's still an "if", as long as there are undecideds), people will still be angry. Hell, they'll be even angrier. Angry enough, I'd say, to overturn this bill by whatever means necessary.
Pelosi and Obama do not fully understand what they just started. They don't know who they're dealing with.
They will know very, very soon...

Conservative politics is DEAD if this passes.
After 2010...the commies will be running on how Republicans will steal your healthcare, and how they will fully fund and fix the NATIONAL HEALTHCARE DEPT. RINOS and Dems will cream their pants at the ease in which they will beat Conservatives like a drum.
And don't forget the millions of NEW government employees who will never vote Conservative again.
This bill brings 100 YEARS of Communism to the US.
