Frank Luntz's Focus Group, Starring Fielding Mellish
— Ace

It's cute/sad the two black people on the panel are so determined to insist Obama is doing everything right. (An older black guy isn't having that.)

The real comedy comes from the communist hipster d-bag in the back row at 8:00.

Logistics!

I'm sure this idiot is already bragging on sassing Sean on his MySpace page.

Meanwhile, even Matthews, Feinman, and Olbermann (!) were critical of Obama's speech.

Oh Dear Lord: Paul Begala really strains to convince you he thought the speech was doggone awesome.

39 There are black Americans that cannot come to the grip that Obama is FAILING. He is a validation of the civil rights movement of 40 years ago. His failure is like Jackie Robinson making it into the majors and having a EPICALLY HORRIBLE SEASON.

They do not want to face reality and accept that this is what they waited 40 years for, it is like Star Wars Episode 1, while a casual fan will tell you that is  TERRIBLE film a die-hard plastic light-saber owning Jedi wannabe will not accept that they loyally waited 13 years and got Jar Jar Binks in return.

One positive thing out of this Obama will pretty much any desire for the voters to lean toward any sort of liberalism ever. Obama was wrong in comparing this oil spill to 911 this is CHERNOBYL. A engineering disaster that ecologically ruined an area and was caused by worsened government mismanagement which led to its eventual collapse.

Voters realized they backed the wrong person for Prez, and the Dems backed the wrong candidate for nomination.

In 2012 all the GOP has to do is nominate a proven strong leader and Obama will get slaughtered in a landslide.

I didn't find the two black panelists "cute" at all. When group identity, at this juncture, trumps competence it is alarming. It very well may be that the last Obama deadenders will be a majority of blacks--whom I suspect The One secretly loathes. Obama likely will, his last months in office, don a dashiki and wear more ANC colors than the O.J. defense did. And out of office, we never will hear the end of his bitching about how The Man wouldn't give him a chance.

Regardless of ideology, it would have been nice if the first president of color had at least been competent. As it is, we were dealt this dude.

I agree that this is the Green regime's Praxis. The whole reason we're out in the middle of the Gulf in the first place is because the Feds (and certain states, like Florida) won't permit it offshore.

58 If you haven't figured it out yet, the black electorate, especially in the south, votes for the black candidate over the white candidate regardless of politics.

The black candidate could be for shooting people in the street, legalized mafia control of the county, and wholesale crack distribution.  It wouldn't matter.  They vote for the black candidate every fucking time.

Why they (the black electorate) do that is subject to (not much) debate, but, they do.  Without fail.

There ya go. I said it.

The other 10% happen to be the sane people like us that realized their culture is fucked up like a pokemon-barney porno movie.

I'm fortunate to work on a daily basis with the 10% who are afraid to go home, go back to their neighborhoods because they just catch miles of shit for being successful in the "white man's world."

Anecdotally, my associates and  friends who are black tell me these stories, and it pisses them off way more than it does me, and I'm pretty pissed.

You are so right here. Imagine you didn't know Jimmy Carter from Adam, and you listened to him drone on and on about how evil the Joooos are and saw him giving head to Michael Moore. I bet you wouldn't believe he ever had been president, let alone governor of Georgia, either. And, note: even Carter had been a governor and worked a full-time job before he was president.

I was trapped in my car (unusual circumstance) so forced to listen.  Meh.  Not so bad, for a politician. Until he got to the MMS and how in the last decade 'industry interests' had 'corrupted' the inspection process (read: inherited from Buuush). Lame beyond lame. Then this Louisianna parish captain lady came on and just ripped him to shreds for the drilling moratorium and sacrificing Americans for his Agenda.  Fantastic!

By the way -- he's not letting on that he KNOWS how bad this could get.  But how can he not know, if the group of scientists he's gathered are all that he's claimed? I suppose he wants to be able to fix the blame on BP in that eventuality.  But get this -- the flow estimates keep increasing.  Is it because the original estimates were wrong . . . or . . . is it that the leak is getting WORSE?

Worst case scenario?  Complete blow-out of the well and a collapse of the sea floor.  Leading to uncontrollable bleed-out of the entire reservoir.  Which could also create a huge tsunami if it's sudden.  Sink holes happen on land all the time, some due to water or gas and oil extraction.  Think what would happen if a large one collapses undersea.

There are signs that this might be heading that way.  To be safe, he should order all the idled rigs to area NOW to drill multiple relief wells.  Even that might not work, but at least we'll have tried.

115 A bit off thread:

I was listening to some reporterette mouthing the blather from some politician about how "we've got to pay down the debt".

Now that's a laudable aim, trouble is it ain't gonna happen in your or my or your kid's lifetime.

Given that the national debt is 13,000,000,000,000,000. (13 trillion)
Say that we manage to balance the budget AND actually CUT expenditures by 130,000,000,000 (130 billion).

These are doable numbers but not really very probable but anyway:
at that rate of payoff we would have to do that EVERY YEAR FOR THE NEXT 100 YEARS to pay off the current debt and that's not counting the interest on that debt. (those of you with credit cards know how this works.)

So the next time some blowhard (right or left) talks about how saving a billion here or there for a year or two is going to make a dent in the National Debt; you know he's not being honest and is more likely angling to promote some program or other under the cover of 'saving' money and 'paying down the debt'.

125 "oops missed a zero."

"it's ONE THOUSAND YEARS TO PAY OFF THE DEBT."

Actually it's ten thousand, because the 13 trillion figure is only debt formally issued by the government, i.e., US Treasury bonds.  When you include the "off-balance-sheet" unfunded liabilities of Social Security and Medicare, the figure is about ten times that much, around 130 trillion, which is like twice the net worth of all the assets in the country.  It is mathematically impossible to actually pay that off.  The alternatives are 1) default, at least in part or 2) monetization, i.e., hyper-inflation.

BTW, if 89% of blacks voted for Kerry (D-ork) in 2004 and 95% of blacks voted for Obama (D-estroy America) in 2008, I don't see how the latter number is due to wholescale racism among blacks.  I'm not saying that a goodly portions isn't due to that, but the comparing the numbers doesn't indicate anything about racism, but about Democrat handout brainwashing.

We don't know what we want America to look like, for our children?  We know.

Good point. But it's still alarming that the demographic remains enslaved - only this time it's via oppressive government and voluntary bondage. I'd say it's a subtle oppression that has supplanted a societal, if not violent one, but the oppression isn't really all that subtle any more. Plus, it's self-imposed. Nothing is free, yet the liberals still seem to think that if government provides, then it is free. Besides being transparently false, more than money is at stake. The condescension may be a manifestation of the loathing but it seems to be more to it.

I agree with your aside but only the part about politcal identification. I think black voters very might have well turned on Kerry at some point but don't think they will, in significant numbers, on Obama. The question is whether that group identification is "racism" or something more benign. I don't have a quick answer to that one, either.

We can bitch and moan about the obvious all we want but pretending race is not an issue and hasn't been pretty much forever in this country is delusional. If anything positive at all came from Obama being elected it was that many black voters who never voted before became completely invested in the same fucked up system the rest of us live in. Nobody can ever say again that you can't get ahead in this country because of race. If you think the race warriors are eager to give up that trump card you aren't paying attention. We live, we work, we pay taxes, we vote and we get boned by our elected officials. 173 You have to understand one thing about the black electorate that defends Obama to the end.  They believe if he screws up, he may be the last (half ) black president.  They believe it reflects on them and that is what has to change.

A great deal of black people who voted for him are out of work right now in different industries. They are suffering like everyone else and have  private opinions that ole Frank certainly is not privy too.

My father was a democrat operative who woke up one day and asked himself exactly what was he doing.  At the time he was teaching the people in the black community who couldn't read which box to check for the Democrats!  He woke up and later became one of the founders of the Black Republican Clubs in Broward County.  We are helping to wake others up to the reality of the destruction that the policy of the Democrat party has caused to the community.

I could write a book on this subject, but as a counter point, realize the crazed nutjob number of whites ( via white liberal guilt) that love this guy and scream racism the minute you criticize him.  There are plenty of people to be angry with.

The Precedent is very different.  Different from any other person to ever lead the Executive branch.  He's the only one that actually hates America.  We've never had that before.  Ever.  He has no American sensibilities, at all.  We've never had to deal with anything even remotely like that, before.  He's intentionally shitting over any and every American tradition he becomes aware of.  He's fucked over every natural American ally.  He's demonstrated his closer affinity to the third world, and his desire to spread America's wealth over the third world (though he'll be happy to just give it to anyone, if that's all he can accomplish).

This nation will be very lucky to survive The Precedent.  Very, very lucky.

183 There was one black man in the panel who was a conservative. He was one of the better spoken critics of Obama among all of them. He took Hannity's question about offers of help from foreigners and correctly identified the problem as an application of the Jones Act. So he was informed, too. I hope more guys like him keep emerging. But it seemed that the Dems had their dials stuck at around 80% approval the whole cotton pickin' time, and they spiked high on four peaks while the GOP dials were inversely crashing: 1) hanging somebody at BP; 2) creating a commission to study the problem; 3) the drilling ban in the Gulf; 4) the slush fund, er "escrow account". Those sick bastards sure like 1) emotional luxuriating; 2) uncritical faith in salvific expertism; and 3) heavy handed government action, damn the consequences; and 4) plunder!

206 "It's cute/sad the two black people on the panel are so determined to insist Obama is doing everything right." Actually, it's neither of those two things...it is, in one concise word, terrifying. It is the reason that Obama WILL be re-elected in 2012, barring some catastrophic floundering of his presidency that causes the party to actually strike him off the ticket. I guess I'm raaaaacist (I am, however, of Latino and ethnic Jewish heritage, so at least I get points for not being white, right?), but I've gone from casually poking fun at the vociferously opinionated political ignorance of the black community to cowering in terror at the prospect of that politically-ignorant and increasingly nonproductive community holding, for the forseeable future, the metaphorical key to the Oval Office. Funny is this: watch around right after the 3:00 mark...this dredlocked guy is, probably, one of the more-politically-educated members of the black community, judging by his selection for, and participation in, this forum. Nevertheless, watch when Luntz asks "Who would send BP's CEO to jail?" A few raise their hands...the dredded guy CLEARLY looks around the room for some visual feedback/guidance, only raising his hand when he sees a few others who have vocally expressed their support of Obama already doing the same. In other words, probably the MAIN factor deciding ALL of this guy's political opinions is "Obama is black and thus can do no wrong"; and is he's not got a well-formed opnion on a matter, he'll just borrow one from whoever else he knows to support Obama (who, btw, is black, and thus can do no wrong). And he's one of the more involved ones! Now, there are LOTS and LOTS of white folks (and yes...many, many Latinos) who are just as ignorant and/or politically misguided as the black community. But they don't vote in 98% for the runners on the ballot that share their ethnicity or race...and, generally, a lot of the most misguided ones are actually factually informed (if extremely loose with their interpretations of those facts to the point of fantasy). The prospect that the Democrats discover that they can cement a permanent hold on presidential power by continually nominating a black man is horrifying; to compete with the ever-increasing black lockstep-Democrat voting populace, the Republicans are going to have to move right in order to peel off some of the new young "libertarian" voters who are somewhat conservative in fiscal and foreign-political matters but socially "progressive" nonetheless.

Posted by: pH at June 15, 2010 11:49 PM (Yw7bX)

207 Obama may have the support of 98 percent of the Black community, as well as a significant share of the Latinos. But, the only reason he was elected was the white vote...whether from "white guilt", lockstep union votes, etc. He will not get even half of that vote in 2012, and he and the Dems know it, thus the push for amnesty.

Posted by: Damn Sockpuppet at June 16, 2010 12:00 AM (bNFxK)

Obama didn't accept help because he wanted BP to be in maximum trouble.  Those are his priorities, and we've always known.

Posted by: Cincinnatus at June 16, 2010 01:19 AM (r60xu)

209 pH, don't worry so much.  The most important deciding factor in presidential elections is personal attractiveness.  If Palin had been the nominee for president instead of VP, she would have won.
The winner of every presidential race is the more attractive:
Obama beats McCain.
-footnote:  Obama beats Hillary R Clinton
Bush beats Kerry
Bush beats Gore
-footnote:   Bush beats McCain
Clinton beats Bob Dole
Clinton beats Bush
Bush beat Dukakis
Reagan beat Mondale
Regan beat Carter

The Republicans need to find a hot guy or a super-hot woman, get her a governor's mansion or senate seat in Nov 2010, then run for the presidency.  Palin, as it turns out, isn't quite hot enough (I suppose because woman voters hate pretty women, so the net gain is less).  Identify a Republican guy hotter than Obama and the Republicans win.

216  Identify a Republican guy hotter than Obama and the Republicans win.

Easy enough to find someone hotter.  We have a slew of better-looking people than "Teh Won."  As well as much more competent, obviously.

The 2 much harder questions to answer:

1.  "Who will the Republicans rally around solidly enough coming out of the primaries?"  And

2.  "Which one will be appealing across a broad spectrum of people, while holding true to his or her conservative beliefs?"

IMHO, No one out there that we think might be running for President at this point fits those two tests in sufficient numbers.

Mitt?  While he might appeal to a broader section of people, conservatives won't rally around him and vote for him with major enthusiasm, and you need the crawl-through-broken-glass-to-vote-for-him attitude to win and win decisively.

Sarah?  Conservatives will rally around her & vote for her with enthusiasm.  But will the squishy middle?  No way, not in any numbers  She's been damaged pretty badly.

Huck?  Neither

Rudy?  If it had been right after 9/11, yes.  No more

Gingrich?  Uh-uh

I think someone fairly new on the scene will appear and take the reins.

Christie?  Brewer?  Ryan?  I don't know who, but someone without the baggage of 2008 and prior may be the ticket.

236 Here's an oil skimmer manufacturer on transport of skimmers. More proof that libs shouldn't be taken seriously, especially when they're from California:

Medium skimmer:

Transportation on a suitable trailer or a combi car. Movement into the water by crane on four hooks.  A lifting device is available as option.  Or by pulling from the trailer to the water by two to four men.

The skimmers can be stored and transported on the trailer for immediate action in case of oil spills.  They don't need skilled personnel for operation. Due to the recommended simple and easy to handle compressed air drive with floating visible hoses and easily adjustable valves the skimmer can either be:-

fixed in the current while the oil layer is lead to the skimmer by booms orpulled through the oil slick, skimming off the oil layer from the water surface.

As oil separator is on industrial oil separating tanks, the skimmer sits in front of the water outlet.  Pump and tubes can be controlled automatically.

237 The objective record of Black officials in Black majority cities and counties is pathetic. Black voters do not demand either competence or results. Look at Detroit: the WSJ reports that even Black professionals and working class are fleeing.

Black voters demand waving the bloody shirt of White Racism (which was real and brutal -- in 1955!) and nothing else. Blacks always bloc vote, support sub-moronic candidates (Cold Cash Jefferson, Guam is tipping over guy, Maxine Waters, Alvin Greene) and don't even demand minimal results with corruption.

San Diego voters may have elected Randy Cunningham, both war hero and corrupt pol, but he was at least minimally competent. Black voters seem to desire Whites as a permanent, third-class citizenry in the minority, akin to South Africa, as punishment for Slavery and Segregation.

Forgetting that Blacks in Mexico are treated even worse than gringos. But that's the thing about hate and spite -- it makes you stupid.

The future for American Whites is already cast: a tiny and abused minority in a version of Mexico Norte (with Blacks basically irrelevant) that is somewhere between South Central LA and Cuidad Juarez/Tijuana. This is certain because of the inability to stop illegal immigration and the vast disparity between Hispanic and White birth-rates. Of course America is finished, done, over, kaput. Look at Mexico. Take half their population. Import it into the US. Will you get anything different from Mexico? Nope.

The one slight hope to avoid that is to have Whites bloc vote like Blacks (something Whites can learn from frankly, or Latinos who do the same), and expel all illegals and their kids, ending birthright citizenship.

Liberals like Obama, Kagan, Kennedy, Souter, Sotomayor (the Wise Latina), Ginsburg, and Breyer constantly tell us the Constitution is trumped by international law. No other nation allows birthright citizenship so we ought to take them at their word.

238 221,
You've got it backward.  Mitt, Huckabee, Guliani ARE NOT ATTRACTIVE.  Bobby Jindal isn't attractive enough.  The mistake Republicans have been making is to pick a conservative first.  We need to pick someone attractive, and the base will rally.  The base will throw abortion under the bus, social security under the bus, immigration, Obamacare, guns, religion, taxes, whatever.  The base will compromise on anything as long as the candidate is hot.  The few people like you, who insist on any ideology at all, are a tiny minority.  The MSM is willing to be conservative, for crying out loud, if only we would run someone more attractive than Obama.

The military turns out handsome young men.  That's our best shot.
