I don't usually associate Good Friday with frivolity, but OK, we're living in a strange new world.
Ms. Nekkid Badhu is being charged with disorderly conduct for disrobing in public in Dallas, someone who witnessed it finally filed a complaint so the police could act. No fine for being a tasteless bitch however.

I'm glad this open thread is available. I usually hang around for the ONT on the week ends, but tonight I'm experimenting with Absinthe for the first time. Traditional preparation method with the spoon & sugar cube. Might not be able to hang on...

That's for sure! This morning on the local (L.A.) news they were at a soup kitchen type place talking about the Good Friday "celebration" dinner which would feature ham.

Initial impression: positive. I did the 50-50 mix with the sugar cube, and took a tentative sip. It slid down smoothly, and at first it seemed improbable that it was really 138 proof. However, after a moment, the warmth spread in the stomach and esophagus. Mmm.. I'm starting to feel... relaxed.
Alas - the liquor store only had French varieties. I hear tell that the Eastern European brands are the only ones likely to give you visions.

I'd never watched it until last year.
I'm hulu-ing it right this very moment. Hulu says the episodes of SG-1 will be available until May 15, so of any of you are interested, you might want to get started.

I must admit I am looking forward to see what Dr Douchebag can do with that spaceship he found.
Maybe we can finally have some sci-fi in this sci-fi show. But I'm afraid the show jumped when they used the Stones -- and started having sex in other people's bodies.
Posted by: This is Coffin at April 02, 2010 04:52 PM (UUkhk)
Posted by: Mortis at April 02, 2010 08:45 PM (QjuDE)
Didn't they already do that and just end up recharging the ship?
That show doesn't thrill me, but many shows are not great in the first season. Maybe this season will wow me? I hope so, since good sci fi is so rare and precious. I do like the plot element where the fat dude gets no puddin'. SciFi has to keep the human interaction realistic, even in the most improbable setting. Otherwise it loses its appeal. And the hot chick does not sleep with the fat dude until all the handsome guys are dead and the fat guy has the last of the food and water.

We went to lunch at a quaint little very Italian restaurant in the western burbs of Chicago today.
There is always a table of older (retirement age) Italian men. As per usual, they were a boisterous bunch. My wife and I are convinced they are the mob, but they are most likely just some old Italian guys who meet for lunch..
Anyhoo.. the loudest one of them today was holding forth on the naming of "Good Friday".
"What's so good about it?", he says.. "They killed Jesus today! Why the hell did they name it Good Friday, huh? That's supposed to be good or somethin'?"
To which another old codger replied.. "Hey.. Fridays are always good! At least when I was workin'!"
ok.. maybe you had to be there.. but it was fun listening to the old farts having fun..
and you also missed one of the best Italian lunch buffets around.. yumm!

I, too, noticed that comment and was very surprised. You always need a bin to throw the misfit/reject stuff - the ONT is perfect for those of us who fall into that category. That way more "serious" (???) posters can avoid it and those of us too drunk to comment intelligently on other threads still have a place. It's like Vegas used to be - a nice place for America to dump all its vice and depravity and isolate it from everyone else.

The thing is the ONT sometimes has very erudite discussions, like the other night and the whole crusades/middle ages/church conversation. And there are some very smart MoFos who hang out on the ONT and usually have ready answers for even the most arcane questions.

Indeed. Personally I think that if you can't relax and enjoy the non-seriousness of the ONT at night, then you weren't nearly angry enough during the day. By 10 PM my anger has smoldered for hours and hours - I have to let it burn out. How better to ease the resentment and bitterness the Liberals make us feel than to go to the ONT? Where the company is pretty far Right, much of it good, solid, hardcore Right, and you get to discuss topics ranging far and wide. It's a balm for the soul. And the only behavior that is harshly judged is stupidity, and even then only the bad kind of stupidity. I remember a time when I exchanged shots for quite some time regarding the disgust I feel for having kids - and not once was I accused of being a big fat meanie, or anything else stupid and dismissive. Where else is that gonna happen?

I got a big kick out of the land speeder bed and all the paraphernalia. I'm actually enjoying it. The beginning was super predictable, but I like the conservative family values speechifying. I've found the movie to be pretty entertaining and a better role for Efron beyond HSM. I've got about 20 minutes of the movie left.
I'm also getting a big kick out of seeing Melora Hardin (Jan from the Office) speak Elven.

Yeah, so I've read. Still, fun to imagine it. There was a crappy but somewhat amusing movie a few years back called Road Trip where the characters went on an absinthe trip - pretty funny.
I bought the bottle partly out of curiosity. Never tried this stuff until tonight. Also, I pride myself on how well my bar is stocked, and I didn't have any. I have about 68 bottles of different liquors and liqueurs, and keep an eye for for new stuff. When I do parties I like to be able to serve any drink my guests can come up with. i may not have any social skills, charm, or wit - but by God, I have liquor. I enjoy going to small town bars and comparing their stash to mine - and laughing.

Then SG-1 liberated a bunch of alien zap guns and started running around with THOSE on every mission. Then, Earth acquires hyperspace technology, starts building ships, and the whole thing turns into "Star Trek". Since then it's been downhill, and now we've gotten to SGU, where the human race now has such truly ridiculous technological capabilities that the writers have to invent really strained reasons why the heroes are ever in any danger at all.
(I mean, why can't the Destiny crew just use those ridiculous mind-swap crystals to bring over Sam Carter and Rodney, Earth's foremost experts on Ancient technology, to help them figure out how to fly the damn ship?)

I understand what you're saying, and agree to some extent. But at the Walmart in my town it's not "ordinary" Americans you see - they're very sub-ordinary. Disturbingly so in some cases. Just visited the local Walmart last week - it was disheartening, and I felt a twinge of sympathy for the eugenicists.

I just watched all the episodes of the 6th season in the last 2 days myself.
I dislike Jack. Grew tired of that asshole. Such an emo puss.
Have always liked Sawyer. Freckles is a slut but she's hot (and she has freckles, always a plus). Somebody needs to kill Jack so Sawyer will get her.
Very disappointed they keep ressurecting the love triangle crap. Only thing I hate about the show. I thought it was finally done with it with Juliette but then they blew her up and now we're back to square one. But she's on V which is still quite acceptable in it's return, even if it didn't do anything ballsy and shocking.
I liked Locke too. Now... well...
Miles I didn't care for but he's growing on me.
SGU sucks balls.

I am horribly offended by the body switching in the show as there seems to be no boundries as to what the person can do. They get drunk, have sex and do just about anything they want.
Think about it, you switch with a person, for all you know who loves to have sex with goats. You switch bodies and go to a crappy ship with annoying people, on top of that he uses your body to bang his favorite goat!
Just remember what I said all you geeks out there, Eli will never get any, unless he kills all the other guys. A great plot twist I say!

They're all like 16 years old and the show is like some lame after school special but with homoeroticism.

My guess is because Lt Scott is now doinking that cloe chick. He's insane, he picks a chick who is afraid of her own shadow, who maybe on her best day knows how to use a blender, and has a decent rack OVER a chick who can kick ass in a fire fight and has a truly spectacular EPIC rack. Not exactly man card revoking, but I would say one of the corners should be clipped.

You know, Major Rack gets most of the chatter. The show should emphasize her character more. Hers and Colonel Gruff.
Keep the camera on the money, guys.
OTOH, that scene tonight where the new engineer guy heard her talking about him... I thought her and Dr. Nurse were playing a joke--that it wasn't serious. I thought she did a good job of faking her interest in the guy with deliberate bad acting. But what if it wasn't a joke, and that's the best she can do?
