Friday Night Hockey- Game 4 Of The Stanley Cup Finals
— DrewM

The Blackhawks lead the series 2 games to 1 but the Flyers are up 1 nothing in the middle of the first.

Unfortunately, tonight's game is on VS so hopefully you can find it.

What's the atmosphere like in Philly? From TSN's Darren Drager.

Lunatic Fan Award goes to a Flyers fan who during warm up prior to game 3 yelled, "Burish I'm going to effin kill your mother!"

You stay classy Philly.

Added: Jake Knotts emails to say, "Don't no nothing about this hockey thing but I doubt those damn Sikhs play it so it can't be that bad."

Helen Thomas emails, "Gaza would be a hockey hotbed but those damn Jews won't let them have skates".

1 I usually rely on hockey to get me **almost** to football, but I hate the flyers so much I can't bring myself to even watch a game.  I'm a steelers/pens fan, and it's hard to believe that within the same state you have, so close, the massive ass wart of dumbassery that is Philadelphia.

Worst fucking fans on the planet.

2 See, this is why i can't get interested in hockey, you got a bunch of guys all bundled up and zooming around on ice when it's 100 degrees outside. Makes no sense i tells ya!

Worst fucking fans on the planet.

I agree 1,000-fold.  And I live in Philly!  But consider the alternative: Obama crowing about his "hometown team" winning a championship.  No thanks.

11 nhl gots to revamp the schedule. Start earlier or short some series or some fucking thing cuz Ize a big hockey fan and this june fuckingshit is crimping my baseball watching season. fawwwk

Posted by: brian dennehy at June 04, 2010 05:11 PM (0X8Ui)

12 Yeah, the schedule thing sucks but all sports do this now.

The Super Bowl doesn't need to be in February (it'll be later when the add a game or two to the regular season) and the World Series shouldn't be in November.

Nobody is going to change because they are all making too much money. They won't cut regular season games or shorten series.

Given this is the best the NHL has done on TV in 10 years or so, there's even less incentive for them to do something.

Hartnell is a dirty, dirty Sikhret Sikh.

I don't think Barry has ever mentioned the Hawks and probably wouldn't know the difference between a puck and a stick

Posted by: Malia at June 04, 2010 05:25 PM (95zfw)

15 Yeah, only Philly has bad fans.  Yet, in Chicago they have fans that throw beers on opposing players who are about to catch a baseball for an out.  In Chicago, they have fans that go with their dad to beat up the opposing team's first base coach.  In Montreal they riot when they win!

But, let's get back to those evil Philly fans.  Philly is the Republican party of sports, woe is me, only Philly has bad fans.  Rinse, repeat.

16 Hockey question:

Whose fault was the goal where the Flyers guy got a pass behind/to the side of the goal and put it in easy? It was like the Blackhawks didn't realize he was there.

Was it the fault of
a) a defender who was supposed to be guarding him?
b) the goalie for coming out so far when there was a offensive player behind him?
c) something else I'm too dumb to notice?

thx

20 pretty sure that if obama came within a mile of a hockey rink he'd spontaneously weep in fear.  Have you seen him?  Any contact sport he participated in would result in a trip to the ER.

21 Posted by: huh at June 04, 2010 09:37 PM (+ABdJ)

Two guys...

The guy streaking in behind the play was the responsibility of one of the Chicago forwards. The Flyer who had the puck along the board was doubled teamed by a Dman and a forward. That forward shouldn't have gone to him but stayed home to play the trailer. Leaving him alone enabled him to make the pass to the guy behind the net. It was a bad read

Ideally, there should have been a defenseman down low to take the shooter, not sure where he was.

There's been some iffy goaltending in this game but there's been quite a bit of atrocious team defense.

24 thx DrewM.

What about the goalie, the Finnish dude. It looked like he came out (to cut down the angle I guess), but would he do that if he knew there was a Flyer behind him? Did he not realize the guy was there or is that proper goalie technique?

Posted by: huh at June 04, 2010 06:07 PM (+ABdJ)

25 Okay so they just showed Biden at the game; I guess I have to agree with you all - Flyers fans DO suck! No one dumped a drink on him

26 Posted by: huh at June 04, 2010 10:07 PM (+ABdJ)

Yeah, he lost track of that guy. Had he known he was there he would have been back on his post.

Niemi was probably the least culpable guy on that play. Some goals are on the goalie and some on the team. That was a team breakdown.

37 I'd like to point something out.  See any Blackhawk fans at the game? No?  Wonder why?  It's because Philly fans are so fucking retarded that no one would think to travel to Philadelphia for a game.  Especially with kids.  No hotel or dinner revenue, no taxi rides, no tourism, no nothing.  Economic impact next to zero.  Congrats you fucking idiots.

Posted by: dan in michigan at June 04, 2010 06:35 PM (9jRMu)

38 I hate NBC/VS sometimes.

WTF was the penalty? Why did Hartnell get the unsportsmanlike?

No, we have to hear about how Mike Richards is tired. No shit. A player tired after a long year and the Olympics? Thanks for that breaking fucking news.

Posted by: dan in michigan at June 04, 2010 10:35 PM (9jRMu) I'm not saying Philly's not stupid like that, they (well, we, since I live here) are, but have you ever been down to 6th & Chestnut on a weekday afternoon? We're not missing out on tourism, trust me.

40 Bang.

Nice play by CHI.

Posted by: DrewM. at June 04, 2010 06:43 PM (X/Lqh)

41 Okay Dan, I go to a lot of games during the year and there are always lots of other-team fans, unmolested. Playoff games are SO desirable here you just can't get tix, that's the only reason here. I took my MI pals when we played the Wings in the Finals and everyone was respectful Can't say the same when I went to games in pittsburg and Boston ...

Posted by: BlackOrchid at June 04, 2010 06:45 PM (SB0V2)

42 Hold all tickets. We still have a game.

Posted by: tmi3rd at June 04, 2010 07:00 PM (WRtsc)

52 Drew, I'm too old to deal with OT in game 7.  Flyers just need to dig in and take the next two.

55 Come on, I've heard all the Philly insults from the rest of the country. Some of them are even deserved. But, I'm supposed to feel bad that there were hardly any visiting fans at the Wachovia Center? that may be the weakest attack yet.The Flyers fans are like a cult, they ain't giving up those seats for anyone, for the Final, anyway. In the first 3 rounds, we had a few Devils and Bruins fans show up, and Montreal sent down quite a few. Nobody died. Wait a minute, a guy from freakin' Michigan is talking about horrible places to visit? I'm sure the tourism in Detroit is just booming.

@dan in michigan -

"No dinner revenue or tourism" Yeah what that city could use is a historic district to draw a few million tourists a year. Wait, what...? (The dinner revenue piece is just plain funny).

59 - What makes that really sick is that Clarke is diabetic, has been since childhood. I know YOU know that, but probably not many others, since it seems the world has a permanent hard-on for Philadelphia teams and their fans. I just heard today that New Yorkers - our mortal sports enemies - are even pulling for the Flyers this year because they are a Cinderella story. Last nite in the 3rd period it was like Chicago finally woke up and realized, shit we could lose this...and next game will not be easy for the Flyers.

Philly in 6.
