— Ace Interestingly-- perhaps coincidentally, but interestingly -- unemployment figures stopped falling after ObamaCare went into effect. (That is, new unemployment claims stopped falling and leveled off at a high-ish level.)
Unemployment claims actually went up again, and Reuters is right there to say "unexpectedly."

Ace..make the below post sticky for a bit. I just hit the jar. It's not much, but business has been a bit slow and the wife is still funemployed after two years.

Know how I know? Corporate income tax revenue is still dropping. Despite all the GDP and inflation and "consumer confidence" shinola that Commerce does to spin numbers, they can't hide their actual income tax intake. And that's low.

Worf did say that her husband was going to "fundamentally transform the economy" and change things forever.
10% unemployment is the new norm.

Appearing on CNN this morning, Rep. Loretta Sanchez, D-Cal., said current immigration law splits up families. She also said a more organized immigration system will help the U.S. economy.
"When the economy turns around, we'll need more workers than the ones we have in the United States," she said. "So we have to get ready for that."
See, Congresswoman Sanchez has solved all our problems at once.

Sacred honor compels me to reveal that one night, Nikki Haley unexpectedly ended up in my hotel room . . . after midnight.
We all know what that means .

By the by, my funemployment officially ends on Tuesday when I begin training to become a pharmacy technician.
Yes, it's entry-level and about as low as you can get on the pharmacological totem pole but I busted my ass to get it. I certainly didn't wait for someone to hand it to me.

Oh yeah, color me ecstatic! I've been funemployed since '08 and there are no jobs out there for anyone with my experience. None. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
I even found one job with a major defense contractor here that I'm eminently qualified for. Have the called me? Why no, no they haven't. I'm guessing that you have to pay somebody off to get a job there anymore. Or blow somebody off.
Either way, I'm screwed. Unemployment is over for now, until the idiots in Congress get their feces amalgamated and realize that there are a lot of people hurting out here.

How about everyone who doesn't have a job, but wants one, gets a free ticket to the US / Mexico border. Bring your own work gloves and a post-hole digger; bails of razor-wire and a pallet of 4x4s will be waiting for you.
Two birds, one stone.

Wow, the peeps in that vid sitting behind the Bamster look like stoned zombies. Some aren't even looking at him--just staring off into space. Absolutely no response when he said "Unemployment could be 15%"--my jaw would have absolutely dropped.

When I read that Obama said that, my first thought was: "It'll be back over 10% when the numbers are released on Friday."
I'm sticking to that. I'm not an economist, but I think that would suggest a greater accuracy.

Congrats, ErikW. It's bad out there. I live in an area that is very much in a bubble (due to Microsoft and Boeing). Yet even here, a friend of mine who reluctantly voted for Obama (she was a Hillary girl) had to take a 50% cut in pay at the start-up she's at. Still the majority of people I know are completely unaffected, still shopping at Whole Foods, going to their trendy gyms and expensive yoga classes. At the b-day party I went to yesterday, the stepbrother of the b-day girl said he had 110 hours on his current paycheck (machinist at Boeing working on the 777). Also, on today's a.m. run, one girl showed up in her brand new Mercedes station wagon, and another girl who drives an hard top Mercedes convertible that's only a year and an half old with 10k miles on it was talking about getting a new BMW hardtop convertible. She also talked about the new granite countertops and backsplash she and her hubby had installed in their kitchen and bathroom. The most affluent people I know are all Democrats. Crazy, huh?

Not at all. There are lots of explanations, but usually it's noblesse oblige or some form of that.
Posted by: AmishDude at July 01, 2010 09:27 AM (T0NGe)
It's related to the Kathleen Parker syndrome. Once you become rich and get into all the right parties and crap you don't want to see horrible filthy middle-class people hoisting themselves up into your parties so you do everything possible to destroy economic upward mobility. Conveniently, the Democrats have that "everything possible" as their platform, so it's one-stop shopping.

Seems like everyone I know still holding a job has had their salary cut or frozen. So even actual employment is beginning to suck.
Or there are two people doing the work of six. And those two people can't say, yeah, well, I'm outta here, because there is nowhere to go. So, yeah, even employment is sucking.

The same thing is happening here. I just assume that all the wealthy libs I know are somehow or other screwing somebody out of their hard earned cash. Bastards.
Seriously tho, Central Ohio is kind of a hotspot for medical technology and everyone I know in healthcare tells me that the local job market is set to skyrocket. I plan on studying Radiography in the fall so maybe I can get on the gravy train.

Yes. The "I've got mine" mentality. I've seen it with "smart growth" stuff.

What this country needs is a non-politician in the White House. Not a 'successful business person' either. I want the guy who failed. Yeah, an 'unsuccessful businessman'. The guy who knows what the hell is wrong with the tax laws, the employment laws, the taxing authorities, the endless regulations, the competition with third world countries that abuse their workers, foul the planets air and water, and send us lead-filled toys for our children to play with. I want the guy with no furniture in his living room and a "Foreclosed" sign on his front lawn. The guy who used to be successful, followed all the rules and watched as his business went to shit right before his eyes. I think he has one helluva lot better idea of how to get 20 million Americans employed again.

Hmmm... still got furniture, but I am in the process of selling the house... closed my business down last year... Ret. Navy... joined corporate America for a few years until I helped start a software development company... which went under... then started my own Contracting service... which I was forced to shut down last year. Heck, I don't even get unemployment because I was "self employed"...
Where do I sign?

Funny how they never mentioned Bush's MBA from Harvard business school but all we ever hear about is Obama's degree from Harvard Law; and he doesn't seem to know that very well. Too many trips to Pokiston.
My mother-in-law didn't even know Bush had an MBA. Called me a liar.
