First, Volcano!
All UK flights have been grounded until tomorrow morning as a spreading cloud of volcanic ash heads south from Iceland towards continental Europe.In the first extended closure of British air space in living memory, millions of airline passengers face travel chaos as National Air Traffic Services (Nats) said no civilian planes would fly until at least 7am on Friday morning because of the eruption in Iceland.
"The cloud of volcanic ash is now spread across the UK and continuing to travel south. In line with international civil aviation policy, no flights other than agreed emergencies are currently permitted in UK controlled airspace," a spokesman from Nats said.

The plume of almost Biblical proportions was hurled into the sky above Iceland following an eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano, which surged back into life on Tuesday. The cloud severely limits visibility but could also endanger the aircraft if flown through, clogging the engines with molten glass. No flights are reported to have been caught in the cloud itself.
You'd think the enviro nuts would be thrilled with the grounding of planes, what will all the carbon not being spewed into the air and all. Problem is, I'd bet the volcano is releasing a hell of a lot more carbon than those planes ever will.
Meanwhile, the planet almost let a meteor hit the ground.
Oh sure you can say it happens all the time and yeah it's spectacular to look at but I think it's clearly a warning from Gaia..."start showing me some respect or I'll let this stuff through and then we'll see who is so tough."

Couple of minor corrections - 1) National Guard is a state entity. Governors don't request them, the governor orders them in. They work for the governors. 2) Federal assistance has to be requested. This is an involved process, but usually gets done pretty quickly, like 24 - 48 hours. 3) Federal policy is that all disasters start as a local problem, so response starts with local assets. Then it elevates to state, then federal.

Poisoning is an indiscriminate way to kill off pests. I realize Kemp's poisons will be on his property, but it is odd to me that someone would risk subjecting a dog or cat to a painful death because their owner didn't abide by the leash law.

**I wanted to go see Defiance, but he had to go see Knowing instead, so we spent our date night schedule up going to see Knowing...I did not find it all that great; in fact, it stank -- the ending was sweet, but the story was derivative and the effects were not that good (I'm not a fan of a lot of cgi) -- and I was already sick to death of "it's the end of the world!" stories. And yes, I'm ticked that I never get to see the movies I want to watch, and we have to wait around for the ones he wants to see...I think my taste in movies is better (I present as evidence: Avatar).

If the volcano happens in the fall or winter when the earth in in a mode of net energy loss from radiation, then the ash will blanket the earth and keep it warmer. The earth (northern hemisphere) is now in a mode of net energy gain froom radiation, so, yes, this volcano can be expected to at least have a temporary cooling effect.

Perhaps Gaia doesn't want Obama visiting Europe again, for the Nth time. Maybe Gaia thinks that Obama showing up at the Polish President's funeral is just a political stunt, not a genuine show of solidarity with Poland.

Problem is, I'd bet the volcano is releasing a hell of a lot more carbon than those planes ever will.
You just don't get it!!
The carbon put in the atmosphere by the volcano would have wound up in the atmosphere anyway, whereas the airplanes' emissions only get emitted if people fly airplanes and emit them!
To the contrary, Gaia is trying to save us!!!
(I know so much about this issue because I'm concerned. And you'd better start listening to Gaia.)

Gia was a supermodel. why do i know this? Because there was a HBO movie made about her and she was played by Angelina Jolie, before she was famous, and there was a lot of nudity and lesbian sex scenes.
Needless to say the movie was a lot better than earth.
